Leonardo let Summer take care of Rosie. As Summer held Rosie and closed the door behind them, Leonardo switched on the light and walked in alone. Light suddenly returned to the darkroom.
Leonardo went up to Michael with a stern expression. “It’s been a long time,” Leonardo slowly said in an icy tone.
Just then, Summer brought Rosie over.
Children were sensitive. When Rosie saw Michael, she felt a little scared and hid behind Summer.
Summer patted Rosie on the head as she looked at Michael.
It had been three years since she last saw Michael.
Seeing him again now, she was shocked by his appearance.
Michael had lost an arm and was wheelchair-bound. His figure was skinny, his eyes were set back deep in their sockets, and his lips were cracked. Plus, his sweater looked too big for him because he had become too thin.
If she were to come face to face with Michael on the street, she would not recognize him for sure.
He had gone through a lot of changes—frailty, aging, and ghastliness.
Michael no longer looked like the person in charge of the wealthiest family in town but a rat hiding in the sewers, too afraid to meet humans.
“You two!” Michael stared at them wide-eyed when he finally made out who they were. His eyeballs seemed to pop out of their sockets, and his voice was grating like a saw.
“Get out of my sight! Who let the two of you in? Get the hell out of here!”
He pointed at the door with bloodshot eyes.
Leonardo sneered and sat down in front of him with his legs crossed. “I’ve brought my wife and daughter to visit you today. Now you’re showing me the door? Is this how you treat your guests?”
Michael’s aggressive voice scared Rosie, who continued to hide behind Summer. She refused to step out no matter what.
Summer patted her on the head to comfort her. She then took out her mobile phone and texted Tim, asking him to bring Rosie out of the room.
Tim had just been outside the entire time. He was familiar with the place, so he quickly came to bring Rosie away.
After they left, Summer moved to Leonardo’s side, and he created some space for her to sit next to him.
Michael clenched his fist on the armrest as he stared straight at Leonardo and Summer.
Leonardo and Summer sat side by side in front of him. Their expressions were similar—cool, calm, and collected. Summer had regained her weight, and when they sat together, they looked like the perfect couple.
Hatred and indignation rose like wildfire within Michael. “Get the hell out of here!” He sounded almost hysterical.
“Guards, get in here!”
It did not matter how loud Michael roared. No one was coming.
Leonardo looked on and sneered as Michael was on the verge of a mental breakdown. “You’ve completely lost your patience. You’re too emotional now. Before this, you managed to keep the truth of my mother’s kidnapping for ten years.”
Summer looked over at Leonardo, whose face was so stern that no one would have dared to come near him. She knew that Leonardo would still be filled with hatred whenever he mentioned his mother. It was a burden that he continued to bear.
The scar left inside him back when he was a teenager had become a form of bondage for him. He could not escape it.
The same went for her. She might have no longer cared for Karen, but she would still envy others.
Michael glared at Leonardo with a hideous expression. His voice was so hoarse that it sounded as if there was sand in his throat. “What do you want?”
“I should be the one asking that question,” Leonardo sneered again as he leaned forward slightly. “Do you still feel that you’ve done nothing wrong until now?”
“What wrong have I done? I did everything to protect Violet and Adams. I have never thought of harming your mother! I didn’t know that those people would change their minds. It was your fault!
“You made your aunt go insane, and you killed Adams. Karma will catch up to you!”
Michael was very weak now. He was already short of breath after just a couple of sentences.
A fleeting sense of disdain flashed in Leonardo’s eyes. “So that’s why you instigated Vicky to exact revenge on us?”
“I didn’t!” Michael stared at him, his eyes wide open with a trace of horror.
He knew what Leonardo was capable of. He was not going to admit that he was the person who incited Vicky to exact revenge on them, no matter what.
“Don’t be so quick to deny it. I won’t do anything to you.” Leonardo broke into a creepy smile, which would have made people uneasy, especially when he was not known to enjoy smiling.
“What-What are you going to do?” Michael’s expression changed.
“Since you haven’t gone outside for three years, you probably want to take a walk. I would be very happy to make your wish come true.” The smile on Leonardo’s face only grew more obvious.
“No! I’m not going out! I don’t want to go out!” Michael’s body shivered as if something had struck him hard mentally.
Aside from being distraught due to Violet’s insanity and Adams’s death, another reason for staying indoors for three years was not wanting others to see his current condition.
He used to be the person in charge of Emerson Group. He enjoyed the kind of life that other people envied and that money could buy. But now, he was worse than a dead person. He looked half-human, half-ghost. Others would surely laugh their heads off when they saw him now. He could not let that happen, and the best way to do that was to stay indoors.
“It’s not your decision to make.” Leonardo got to his feet. “We’re supposed to be on good terms.” His voice was so cold that it lacked emotion.
His words summed it all up. They were supposed to be on good terms.
Even if he killed Michael, it was not going to heal his hatred.
If Michael had done nothing and stayed back in the old house, nothing would have happened. Yet, he was unrepentant and still fixated on seeking revenge. Since he was asking for it, Leonardo could only oblige. Leonardo knew Michael’s biggest fear too well.
“Let’s go.” Leonardo held his hand out to Summer once he finished talking.
Summer, who had been silent the whole time Leonardo was talking to Michael, took his hand and pulled herself to her feet.
When Leonardo headed to the door with her, Michael roared behind them, “Leonardo! Leonardo!”
Outside the room, Summer looked up at Leonardo. There was a hint of gloominess on his stern face.
