Chapter 494 What’s the Point?

Book:CEO's Substitute Wife Published:2024-5-1

After Summer parted ways with Jessica, she walked toward the parking lot with Rosie.
She was a bit absent-minded, probably thinking about what Jessica had said.
Just as she put Rosie in the car and buckled the safety belt for her, she heard high heels click-clacking behind her.
She did not give it a second thought since it was a parking lot with people coming and going.
It was not until she closed the rear passenger door and turned around did she see Vicky. She was standing with her arms folded and staring at her from one meter away. It was autumn, and Summer was wearing a light sweater. However, Vicky only had on a simple blouse, short leather skirt, transparent black stockings, and a pair of high heels.
Vicky’s chin was raised, and her lips were bright red. “What a coincidence,” she said listlessly.
“Really? I don’t think so.” Summer looked at her with a straight face.
She and Jessica had met at a small mall. A showy person like Vicky would never want to come to such a place. That only meant one thing: Vicky was following her. But Summer was not sure when Vicky had started to follow her.
“I underestimated you in the past. You made yourself look dumb when you were little to please your mother, didn’t you? What a shame. No matter what you did, your mother would still be concerned more about me, so you’ve always hated me, right?”
While Vicky spoke, she took a step forward, her eyes hideous. “That’s why you set yourself against me after you grew up! You killed my Adams!”
Every time Vicky saw her, she would talk about Adams, and every time Vicky talked about Adams, she would act like a madwoman.
Nevertheless, Summer was unfazed. “Since you’re asking, let me tell you. If I have to use the word ‘hate’, the person I hate should be your stepmother because hate only exists when there is love.”
Vicky heard what she said and sneered, “Stop being two-faced. You clearly hate me but pretend to be kind. This is what I hate most about you!”
It was pointless to talk to a person like Vicky, and Summer gave up.
Summer turned around to get into her car, but Vicky approached and stopped her.
Summer got agitated. “Did you lose your job, Vicky? Why don’t you go to work? Why are you following me? What’s the point?”
Vicky gripped her arm tightly, and there was a weird smile on her face. “I make it a point to find a way to kill you as an act of vengeance for Adams while I follow you.”
Thinking of Rosie who was still inside the car, Summer became a bit worried.
Luckily, the car had tinted-glass windows, which were almost like one-way mirrors with excellent sound insulation. Hence, Vicky could not see what was inside.
“Ask your manager to find you a good hospital if you have so much time on your hands. Otherwise, you’ll go mad even before you get your revenge.”
She shook Vicky’s hand off, went around to the other side, and got in the car.
Just as she was about to speed off, the thought of Vicky sabotaging Stanley’s car in the past came to mind. As a result, she was afraid to drive off.
Vicky did not immediately leave after Summer shook her off.
She peered into the rear passenger seat and could vaguely make out that someone was inside. However, due to the tinted windows, she could not get a clear image.
So, she might as well move closer. Vicky pressed her face against the glass to get a better look inside.
It was not an expensive car and the window’s glass was not of high-quality material. Hence, with her face pressed against the window, Vicky could see a child sitting in the car. She was just still not able to make out the child’s face.
“What are you doing?”
A voice came from afar. It was the security personnel.
Only then did Summer realize that Vicky had not left.
As a public figure, Vicky stood upright when she saw a security guard approach her.
After Vicky left, Summer got out of her car.
People tended to be kind to good-looking people.
The security guard saw Summer and looked at her with concern. “A woman was standing close to your car just now. Did she do anything to you?”
Summer knew that the security guy was talking about Vicky. “I’m not sure. Could you please help me check the brake system, just in case?” She had a smile on her face.
“Sure.”
Once the security guy examined the brake system and found no problems with it, Summer thanked him and drove away.
“Mommy, that woman…” Rosie’s voice rang out from behind.
Summer glanced at her through the rearview mirror. “What did the woman do?”
Rosie clasped the wooden doll in her hands. “She was looking at me.”
“You’re adorable, Rosie. That’s why she wanted to look at you.”
A smile spread across Rosie’s face as her eyes narrowed. “Mommy is adorable too.”
Summer broke into a bright smile. It reminded her of what Leonardo had said: she and Rosie were alike personality-wise. Yet, it now seemed that Rosie’s character was not exactly like hers. She was not a sweet talker like Rosie when she was a child.
Her expression faded quickly as she thought of Vicky.
When did Vicky start stalking her? A person like Vicky could do anything, but this time, Vicky did not sabotage her car’s brake system, to her surprise.
Was it because she felt that the same trick could only be used once?
Despite that, every time she saw her, Vicky had that murderous look on her face as if she could not wait to rip Summer apart. There was no way Vicky would let go of an opportunity to kill her.
Vicky would not mind recycling methods such as sabotaging the brake system.
Summer still could not make head or tail of it when she got home.
Jessica’s words had probably taken root in her mind; while Summer prepared dinner, she catered half of the dishes for Leonardo and another half for Rosie.
Leonardo got off work early today.
Ever since he moved into her house, he had never stayed back in the office. At most, he would take back any uncompleted work.
When he arrived home, Rosie was drawing on his working desk.
She sat in the chair, but she was too short for the table, so she stood on the chair and drew on a piece of paper on the desk.
Seeing Leonardo home, Rosie enthusiastically showed him her work of art. “This is you, Daddy. This is Mommy, and this is me.”
“Mommy, come look at my drawing.” Rosie called out to Summer when she served the dishes on the dining table.
Summer put the dishes down and walked over.
Rosie pointed her finger at a red line. “This is Mommy!”
“It’s beautiful.” Summer smiled.
Rosie then showed Leonardo a green line. “This is Leonardo.”
“Why am I green?”
“Green for Leonardo (green bell pepper)!”
Leonardo gave himself two seconds of silence before he glanced at Summer. “It’s beautiful.” His voice was flat.
