Even the members of his rescue team were stunned by what they saw, let alone Stanley.
Who in the world was Leonardo? He was born in a super-wealthy family and was an extremely rich young master.
It was unbelievable to see him living the life of the locals, sitting in such a place, and having their breakfast.
However, Summer had gotten accustomed to it. She had seen enough for the past few days.
Leonardo wanted to pick up a pickle but accidentally got a shallot. Frowning, he was about to get rid of it when Summer pushed her bowl over. “Don’t throw it away. Give it to me.”
Leonardo placed the shallot in her bowl with furrowed brows.
God knows why he had a problem with onions and shallots. He shunned any food that had anything to do with those two ingredients.
Stanley took it all in, his eyes twitching.
He felt like a third wheel sitting there.
Leonardo had to be thinking about how stupid he looked.
He broke into a self-deprecating smile and got to his feet before he brought his men out.
Summer heard footsteps and looked up, observing Stanley and the others with a baffled expression. “Are they leaving?” she mumbled.
Leonardo dropped a shallot clove in her bowl again. “Mind your own business.”
Her lips moved, but she said nothing in the end.
Since she ate a lot less than the others, she was the first to finish.
She took her bowl into the kitchen and set off to find Stanley.
Leonardo and the elderly man were still sitting at the dining table. Looking out from the main hall, Leonardo could see Summer and Stanley talking.
Were they trying to get warm by standing so close?
What was so fun about talking to Stanley?
Each time Leonardo glanced at them, his expression sank deeper.
The elderly man peered at him and then at the scene outside. “Is that guy here to steal your wife from you?”
“Who is he to fight with me?” He was expressionless.
“Since you know that he isn’t your match, why do you still look so hostile?” The elderly man shook his head. “Stop being impetuous. Summer is a wonderful woman. She is faithful to you. You shouldn’t be this paranoid.”
Leonardo was silent for a moment. “She isn’t as faithful as you think.”
She wanted to marry him again, yet she had appeared on the entertainment news with another. Now Stanley was there, flinging himself at her feet.
Heck, there was no way she was a faithful woman.
The elderly man had no words to say in return.
Outside, Summer stood beside Stanley. “I don’t know why you had to provoke Leonardo, but I still appreciate you coming for me.”
“We’ve walked through the valley of death together. Speak nothing of such a small matter.” Stanley chuckled and looked down at the ground.
Summer pursed her lips in silence.
It was not that she had nothing to say. It was just not the right place to talk.
“Please allow me to buy you lunch once we’re back in Hoover City,” she said after a while.
“Sure.” Stanley agreed without hesitation.
“Deal!” She smiled.
“The sky is finally clear.” The elderly man’s voice rang out.
Summer lifted her gaze and saw that the sun had come out.
It was the first sunshine after days of continuous rain.
Right then, the sound of footsteps came from the back of the house.
Summer turned around and spotted Tim as he emerged from behind the house with his men.
A hint of surprise flashed across Tim’s eyes when he saw several people there. His eyes darted around and finally landed on Summer.
He scurried up to her and greeted her, “Mrs. Emerson.”
“Tim?”
Summer returned a smile. Her hunch had been proven to be right.
Tim examined Summer and breathed a sigh of relief once he confirmed that she was all right. “Where is the young master?”
Summer tilted her head and glanced in the main hall’s direction. “He should be doing the dishes in there right now.”
Tim followed her eyes and saw a rustic, two-story, black-tiled house.
“Let me bring you inside.” She walked ahead toward the kitchen with Tim following after.
Sure enough, Leonardo was doing the dishes in the kitchen.
Standing at the countertop, Leonardo’s sleeves were rolled up, and he was slowly washing the dishes as if he was working in the office.
There were creases all over his clothes, and his hair was a little messy. He looked entirely different from the usual, where he would be extremely particular about what he ate and wore.
Tim could not believe his eyes and was hesitant. “Young Master,” he finally called out.
“Give me a minute. I need to rinse the bowls one more time.” Leonardo did not seem to be surprised by his arrival. He did not even look at Tim. He poured out the wastewater in the basin and refilled it with clean water, then rinsed the bowls one more time.
He only turned to look at Tim after that.
Seeing his face, Tim was finally sure that he was his young master.
“The copter is parked on the grassland behind the house, Young Master. We can leave anytime.” Tim nodded at him.
Leonardo wiped his hands with a towel. “How are things in Emerson Group?”
“Everything is fine. They all think you’re on a business trip abroad. There’s just a backlog of documentation,” Tim reported.
“Okay.” Leonardo put the towel back on the countertop and looked out the door.
Outside, the elderly man was squatting on a rock with his tobacco pipe in hand, while Stanley was seen offering to light it up for him. However, the elderly man just glanced at him before he fished out a box of matches and lit the pipe up himself.
Stanley said something to him, and he raised his eyebrows. His lips moved as he also said something in reply.
Leonardo pulled back his attention. “Did you bring the money?”
“Here.” Tim got the hint and took out a brown paper bag.
Besides the cash in the paper bag, he also carried more on his body. It was only natural that cash was needed in such a place.
Leonardo took the brown paper bag and walked toward the elderly man.
“Leonardo!” Summer knew what he was going to do and quickly stopped him. “He’ll be offended.”
The elderly man was proud. Although poor, Summer knew that what the elderly man truly lacked was not money but company.
She could feel it; the elderly man had been very happy during their stay of a few days.
“He won’t.”
Leonardo glanced at Summer and headed out.
As the elderly man saw Leonardo come his way, his eyebrows eased up.
Leonardo went up to him, placed the bag of cash in his hand, and said something to him. The elderly man was silent for a while before he finally nodded and accepted the cash.
Summer was just as surprised as Tim. “With your understanding of Leonardo, Tim, what do you think he said to the elderly man?”
“If he were in his mansion in Hoover City, I’d be able to guess.”
Tim paused and looked up at a spider web on the roof. “But I really don’t know what he’d say after he’s lived like a local in such a place for a few days.”
