Summer took half a step back, her expression fading. “Thank you for your concern. He’s almost fully recovered.”
Vicky snickered and started to provoke her. “Then you need to thank me for that. I just cut the brake line back then.”
Summer clenched her fists, her knuckles turning white as she glared at Vicky.
“In that case, you better pray that your guardian angel protects you for the rest of your life.”
“For the rest of my life? Do you really think you can survive that long? I can’t be bothered about how long I have to live as long as I get to exact revenge on Adams’s behalf.” There was a hint of madness in her eyes, and her voice was vicious.
Summer’s heart skipped a beat. “Vicky, what does Adams’s death have to do with me? He was the one who planted the explosives on the island. I was also a victim.”
“A victim? Hah!”
Vicky hissed, and her bright-red lips curled up as she suppressed her hatred. “If you were a victim, how is it that you’re still alive while Adams is dead? Why do you and Leonardo get to live while Adams gets to die?”
Vicky’s expression turned hideous toward the end of the sentence.
She was emotionally unstable. Her voice was so loud that she was almost shrieking. “Tell me why! Why does Adams have to die instead of the two of you?!”
The commotion she created started to attract the attention of others.
Summer looked on as Vicky went berserk, losing a sense of right and wrong.
It did not matter if Summer and Leonardo were on the right, Adams’s death was the greatest sin they had committed in her eyes.
Vicky had been treated like a princess at home since she was little.
Karen abetted her, and Summer became submissive to Vicky for Karen’s sake when she was still a child.
It was due to their abetment that Vicky had become the way she was today. Whenever things did not go her way, Vicky would blame others. She never reflected on herself.
“Because he deserved it!” Summer said coldly.
Already on the verge of an emotional breakdown, Vicky glared at Summer. The next thing Summer knew, Vicky had raised her hand and was about to hit her.
However, Summer had been observing Vicky the whole time. On top of that, she was taller than Vicky, so she caught her hand with ease.
“Summer, let go of my hand!” Vicky’s anger increased when her attack was intercepted.
Not only did Summer not loosen her grip, but she also pulled Vicky toward her with force. Vicky nearly stumbled from the sudden bodily motion.
“You will reap what you sow sooner or later if you still don’t reflect on yourself.” Summer looked impassive.
“You—”
Just as Vicky was about to retort, Kristen Cannon suddenly came out of nowhere.
“Vicky!”
She interrupted Vicky and attempted to pull her back, but Summer did not loosen her grip.
Kristen was also present at the hospital last time, so she naturally knew Summer.
She had just learned a while ago that the screenwriter of The Lost City was present at the event, and she was thinking about meeting her with Vicky. Little did she know that Summer was said screenwriter.
Kristen frowned as she looked at Summer. “Ms. Jarrett, please take your hands off her.”
“Keep an eye on your artist. Otherwise, you won’t know what trouble she’ll bring you.” Summer flung Vicky’s hand away, her voice soft as she spoke.
Kristen held Vicky and sneered, “Is that gentleman all right? Even though Vicky is a little headstrong sometimes, what can you do?”
She shot Summer a dirty look and brought Vicky away.
Eliza was tied up in a conversation with a director when she noticed what happened on Summer’s side. She was only able to free herself and come over right then.
“What happened?” she asked.
Summer smiled at her. “It’s nothing. Don’t worry about me. I can handle it.”
“Fine. Find me if you need me.” Eliza nodded at her and went on her way.
Summer looked in Vicky’s direction. She saw Kristen and Vicky moving through the crowd as if they were heading to the washroom.
Why were they going to the washroom together?
Summer cautiously looked around before following them.
She walked through the crowd and tailed Vicky as well as Kristen.
“Let me go. I can walk on my own,” she heard Vicky say impatiently.
Kristen took her hand off her. “Vicky, you have to remain calm in everything you do. With so many people around, it’ll only make you look bad if a fight breaks out between you and Summer. Listen to me—”
Before she could finish, Vicky raised her hand and slapped her in the face.
“Are you trying to teach me what to do? What makes you think you’re qualified to talk to me like that? Or have I been treating you too well?” She slapped Kristen again after she finished speaking.
“Keep this in mind: you will not decide what I can do.” Vicky crossed her arms. As though slapping Kristen was not enough, Vicky gave her a good kicking for good measure.
Kristen lost her balance and nearly fell on the floor, but she did not make a sound.
A couple of seconds later, Kristen took out a pillbox and handed two pills to Vicky. “Vicky, please take these.”
“For the hundredth time, I’m all right. I’m not mentally sick. I don’t need this medication!” Vicky glared at Kristen and left.
Kristen picked up the pills from the floor while she cautiously scanned her surroundings as if she was looking out for paparazzi.
She had likely found none, as she quickly scurried after Vicky.
Only after they left did Summer emerge from the corner.
Recalling Vicky’s behavior during the last few times they met, she detected something unusual.
Vicky would only dig at her and say something to belittle her whenever they had a disagreement. She would not lose her composure and go berserk like what happened earlier.
Therefore, Vicky had to be suffering from a mental problem. That would explain why she had lost control of herself.
If that was the case, there was no telling what she would do next.
Summer turned around and slowly walked back to the venue of the event, but her mind was already elsewhere.
Stanley had been the first collateral damage, and Vicky was targeting her now.
At this point, Vicky still did not have the guts to target Leonardo. If she discovered Rosie’s existence, however…
