Chapter 445 You Wouldn’t Want Me to Stay

She still remembered the story structure of The Lost City. Only the details had become somewhat vague.
Since she needed to start working on the second season, she had to do some revision on the first.
Summer watched The Lost City on her tablet computer the entire afternoon.
She put the tablet on the countertop and watched the web series while she made dinner.
All of a sudden, a loud bang came from outside the door.
Summer was startled. She pressed the pause button on her tablet and went out to check on the situation.
Before she could open the door, someone had opened it from the outside.
A man in a cargo suit was standing outside.
“Who are you?”Summer asked with a stony expression on her face.
“I-I’m a locksmith…”The man appeared intimidated as he stammered.
“I didn’t ask for you.”Summer’s expression only became colder.
Right then, a familiar male voice was heard.”I hired him.”
The locksmith stepped aside, and Leonardo emerged before Summer.
“Leonardo?”She was so angry that she laughed.”You must be really bored. Why did you ask someone to pick my lock? Couldn’t you just knock on the door or call me on my phone?”
Summer tucked her hair behind her ear in frustration.
Leonardo looked at her with a frosty expression.”Didn’t I knock and call?”
Upon hearing that, she quickly went in to look for her mobile phone.
She found it on the coffee table in the living room. There were several missed calls, all of which were from Leonardo.
Leonardo did not lie;he had called her.
She must have been too immersed in The Lost City that she did not hear her mobile phone ring.
She looked back, and Leonardo had followed her inside. He was now sitting on the sofa and loosening his tie. Leaning back, he glumly stared at her.
Summer put down her mobile phone and went to fetch him a glass of water.
He took the glass from her, frowning.”What were you doing?”
Summer was embarrassed, but she had no choice but to admit it.”I was watching TV.”
Leonardo scoffed and said nothing.
Summer glanced in the door’s direction, making sure that Leonardo came alone.”Where’s Rosie? Why didn’t she come with you?”
Leonardo’s face turned grave at the mention of Rosie.”She caught a cold. I’m on my way home, and I came here to pick you up so that you can see her.”
Summer’s lips moved, but she bit back her words.
It was normal for children to fall sick now and then because they had weaker immune systems. Plus, it could have been Leonardo’s fault. Was he not a patient himself?
“Give me a minute while I get changed.”She got to her feet and entered her bedroom.
It did not take long before Summer came back out.
It was autumn when the temperature was just nice—not too cold or too hot. Wearing a white sweater on the outside and a skirt, she looked neat and warm.
“Let’s go.”Summer took her mobile phone and hurried Leonardo.
He got up and strode out with his hands in the pockets of his dress pants.
They stepped into the elevator, and Leonardo glanced over at her. She had her lips pressed together, looking worried.
“The doctor has attended to her. She’s fine. It’s just a regular cold.”It sounded like he was saying that to comfort her. However, it apparently did not work as she just returned a perfunctory nod.
Leonardo’s expression faded, and he did not say a word again.

They arrived at the mansion twenty minutes later.
Summer got out of the car and ran inside at once.
She had stayed there before, so she knew the layout of the house well. She went through the living room and climbed upstairs into Rosie’s bedroom.
Rosie was hooked to a drip, and the IV bottle hung in front of her bed. She was lying on the bed, asleep.
Summer went over and called out to her softly.
Rosie had black, bright eyes with straight, long eyelashes. When she slept with her eyes closed, her eyelashes would touch her eyelids.
Half of her face was under the duvet, and her nose wings flapped softly as she breathed. Anyone who saw her would have felt sorry for her.
Rosie was not in a state of deep sleep. When Summer called her, Rosie opened her eyes although it was just a whisper.
Her eyes moved in confusion at first, but once she saw Summer, a smile broke out on her face.”Mommy.”
While she spoke, she reached out to hug Summer.
Summer had expected it. Just as Rosie reached out, she stopped her.”Stop moving your hands. There’s a needle in your arm.”
Rosie looked at the back of her hand, her eyes welling up, but she was not crying.
Looking at her reaction, Summer felt all the more sorry for her.
Summer patted her on the head.”It’s okay, sweetie. You’ll be all right soon.”
Rosie nodded in response.
She held Summer’s hand tightly with the other hand.”Mommy, don’t go.”
“Mommy isn’t going anywhere. I’ll stay here with you.”Summer nodded with a smile.
Having not seen her mom for a day and a night, Rosie mumbled something and fell asleep again very quickly.
As Summer pulled the duvet over Rosie, she sensed someone coming in. She looked back and was shocked to see Leonardo standing behind her.
“When did you come in?”she asked ill-humoredly.
He did not answer her question, his eyes landing on Rosie’s face.”Is she asleep?”
“Mhm.”Summer stood up and headed out of the room.”How did she get the cold?”
“She left her room to look for you in the middle of the night yesterday.”His voice was indifferent. Leonardo was a light sleeper. When he heard a sound outside his room, he went out and saw Rosie standing barefooted in front of his door, sobbing quietly while looking for her mom.
Where was he supposed to find her mom in the middle of the night? At that time, Leonardo had no choice but to carry her into his bedroom and let her sleep inside. Even then, she still caught a cold.
When Summer called him in the afternoon the next day, Rosie was still sleeping, and Leonardo had yet to find out that Rosie had caught a cold.
Hearing what he said, Summer went out of the room and closed the door behind her. She then turned to look at Leonardo.”I’ll bring her back to my place when she wakes up.”
“What do you mean?”Leonardo’s expression turned frosty.
“Rosie needs me to take care of her now, so she’ll stay with me.”Summer smiled.”Or do you want me to stay?”
“You wouldn’t want me to stay.”She denied herself without waiting for Leonardo to respond.
