Chapter 440 Don’t Disturb Her

Book:CEO's Substitute Wife Published:2024-5-1

Stanley interrupted Summer just as she wanted to say something.
“I know what you want to ask, but today’s theme is me treating you to lunch.” Stanley looked intently at her. “If you still want to ask, go ahead.”
Summer now thought she had to retract what she said. She did not like to talk to smart people.
Smart people could pretty much read people’s minds, so they knew what people were thinking, what they were going to ask, and what they were going to do.
Since she already had a showdown with Stanley and admitted that she had recovered her memories, she wanted to ask him about things from three years ago and how he got to know her. But since Stanley had made his position so clear, she thought better of it.
The lunch turned into a casual social gathering between friends. Without mentioning the questions in Summer’s head, the atmosphere was still quite pleasant.
However, things did not always go as smoothly as one hoped for. Just as they were about to finish, a group of people came in from the outside.
Summer merely cast them a casual glance, seeing nothing in particular.
In contrast, Rosie, who was sitting beside her, had quickly spotted Leonardo at the rear of the crowd.
“Kate!” Rosie called out excitedly.
She was sitting in a child’s chair, though, and was unable to get down. So, she could only desperately shake her body left and right.
Leonardo immediately frowned the moment he stepped into the restaurant. “Someone’s calling out to me.”
Tim stopped in his tracks as he followed Leonardo from behind. He tilted his head and listened, but heard no one calling Leonardo.
The person who walked in front of him had been paranoid after all. When Leonardo stopped, Tim had to stop and wait.
Just as Tim was about to give him a reminder, he noticed Leonardo looking in a certain direction. He followed Leonardo’s eyes and saw Rosie sitting in a child’s chair, appearing excited. Summer was sitting beside her.
It would have looked ordinary if it had just been the both of them, but sitting across Summer was a man.
Tim cautiously glanced at Leonardo, who appeared normal. Only then did he pull back his eyes and respectfully stand behind Leonardo. “Mrs. Emerson and your daughter are over there. Would you like to go over?”
He was used to addressing Summer as Mrs. Emerson. Since Leonardo had stopped correcting him, he was not going to correct himself.
“Don’t you see her enjoying lunch with another man?” Leonardo sneered. “Don’t disturb her.”
Leonardo’s voice was grave when he said “another man”. Was he jealous, or was he angry? Tim was unsure.
He was sure that Leonardo would have gotten angry in the past. Now, he was not so sure.
Leonardo strode toward the private dining room without even looking back.
When Summer saw Leonardo, she was like, “Sh*t!”
Nothing had happened between her and Stanley, but Leonardo would not have thought so. Leonardo had made it clear earlier. She did not know Leonardo’s thoughts, but she knew he was angry.
“What’s wrong?”
Stanley looked back and managed to get a glimpse of Leonardo walking in the private dining room’s direction.
When Rosie said, “Kate”, he did not know that she meant it to be Leonardo. He only realized what was going on once he saw Leonardo.
“It seems someone up there truly wants you guys to see each other. What a coincidence to bump into him while we’re having lunch here,” Stanley teased.
Summer forced a smile, feeling that Stanley was gloating over her misfortune.

When Summer and Stanley finished their lunch, Leonardo had yet to come out.
Rosie was very glum because Leonardo ignored her even though he had seen her. She was not even excited when she was offered ice cream.
Summer let out a sigh.
“Are you going to wait for Leonardo here?” Stanley asked.
Summer glanced at Rosie and nodded. “Yeah.”
“I have to go now. There will be a few patients waiting to see me in the afternoon.” Stanley turned and left.
Summer ordered a cup of fruit tea while they waited for Leonardo, but he still did not come out even after a long period. Summer suspected that he might have left.
She took out her mobile phone and called him, but there was no answer. So, she sent him a text message, “Rosie’s waiting for you.” It was true that Rosie wanted to see him.
Leonardo did not reply. She waited for a few moments, and Leonardo did not come out either.
She was more and more convinced of her suspicion. Bringing Rosie and approaching the front of the private dining room, she ceremoniously gave two knocks on the door before she pushed it open. Leonardo and Tim were nowhere to be seen inside.
“Where is he?” Summer furrowed her brows.
Not an outgoing person, Summer’s beautiful face looked a bit cold when she was not smiling.
Someone inside had probably guessed that she was Leonardo’s female friend. “Leonardo left long ago,” someone said.
“Thank you.” She pressed her lips together and gritted her teeth, then went back out before she closed the door. She looked down, and her eyes met Rosie’s.
“Daddy?” Were they not going to wait for Daddy? Where was Daddy?
Summer did not know how to explain it to her. Leonardo did not want to see them… No, Leonardo just did not want to see her.
Summer lifted Rosie in her arms. “Let’s go home first.”
It was afternoon. On the way home, Rosie was yawning, and when they finally got home, Rosie had already fallen asleep.
Summer carried her to the bed, moving her very gingerly so as to not wake her up.
However, Rosie weighed over twenty kilograms now. After she carried her all the way home, Summer felt like her hands were about to give way. When she finally placed her on the bed, she was exhausted.
Looking at Rosie, who was a chip off the old block, Summer sighed. She reached out to boop Rosie’s nose with her finger. “Chubby girl.”
After she exited Rosie’s room, she made a call to Tim, who greeted her respectfully.
Summer went straight to the point. “Leonardo saw me having lunch with Stanley earlier. Is he angry?”
Tim glanced at the man, who was browsing a file behind his desk with an impassive face, then looked away. “I think he is…”
Summer thought for a moment. “If he goes home directly after work, please come over and take Rosie.”
If Leonardo was really angry, he was not going to come to her place tonight.
Be that as it may, Rosie missed him, and he did not seem to shun Rosie. Therefore, Summer thought it would probably be all right for Rosie to stay with Leonardo for a night.
