Summer’s expression stiffened, and Jessica had noticed that, knowing that probably she did not believe it.
“How do you feel about Big Boss now?”
“Nothing special.” Other than the fact that he’s boring and childish.
“Tsk, tsk, tsk. What’s your plan, then? You can’t just keep staying with them like this.”
Jessica paused for a moment, then continued to dissect the situation with Summer. “I can certainly tell you that you and Big Boss loved each other previously. You now have two choices: one, you both find back your memories and continue to love each one another; two, if both of you cannot recover your memories and if you two no longer love each other, you’ve got to think about your future…”
Jessica did not have to say too much, as she knew Summer understood the situation.
“I’ve thought of this before.” Summer glanced at Rosie, only to find that she was yawning big time. So she reached to take her out and placed her in her arms. Rosie opened her eyes and glanced at her, then found herself in a comfortable position and slept in her arms.
“She’s fallen asleep?” Jessica leaned over and asked softly.
“Mhm. She’s very well behaved when it comes to sleeping and eating. She has never thrown a tantrum.”
“She is so lovely.” Jessica could not help but reach out to touch Rosie’s face.
Summer moved Rosie to her other arm so that she could sleep more comfortably. She then looked at Jessica. “How about getting one yourself since you like children?”
“I won’t even think of marriage before thirty.” Jessica’s smile faded. “Don’t talk about me. Let’s talk about you.”
“I’ve pondered about the issue you mentioned just now. I even thought about Rosie’s custody issue.” Summer looked serious now. “It’s impossible to fight Leonardo for custody of Rosie right now. First thing’s first, I need to find a job.”
If she was to win the custody battle for Rosie, the first prerequisite would be her financial independence. The worst thing now was how messy her life still was.
Hearing that, Jessica suddenly thought of the script that Summer had sold to Eliza.
“You used to write a screenplay titled The Lost City. The web series was a hit two years ago. Many fans have been asking when you’re going to follow up with Season 2.” While speaking, Jessica took out her mobile phone and visited Summer’s Weibo account, showing the fans’ comments to Summer.
She looked at the user ID: Rosie. She could not recall why she used that nickname at the time. However, she figured that the nickname probably had something to do with Rosie.
Jessica continued to show her the comments from her followers.
“It’s been two years. Aren’t you planning for Season 2?”
“The Lost City has so much suspense. We should talk, Ms. Screenwriter!”
“Begging for The Lost City: Season 2.”
“Her last post was three years ago. By the looks of things, there won’t be a Season 2 from her…”
The last comment made was one day ago. Summer browsed the latest post and found that the last time she posted was three years ago.
“See? They are all followers of The Lost City. If you make a comeback and write the second season of The Lost City, it’s going to be a hit for sure. There will be more producers and directors looking for you. It might be only a web series, but it has won many awards in the industry. Those investors must be laughing all the way to the bank…” Jessica suddenly paused, feeling sorry. “I wonder for how much you sold the script last time. You’ve probably been shortchanged.”
Back then, Summer burned the mansion to the ground and fled. It was during that time that she sold the script. So Jessica had no idea how much she sold.
However, that was not Summer’s focus. She took out her mobile phone and searched for The Lost City online. Reading the content, she found it vaguely familiar. The storyline and character settings came to mind when she saw the name of the protagonists. It all surprised her. Probably she might be able to come up with Season 2 after some study.
“Do you remember to whom I sold the script?”
“Eliza, a rising producer in the entertainment industry. She has been rising rapidly for the past few years. Are you ready for Season 2? Can you reveal some details about why Wei Jincheng was arrested at last?”
She looked at Jessica. “I’m not sure. I can’t really recall the story.”
…
Right when Summer was about to leave the Golden Cauldron, Rosie woke up just in time.
“Do you want Mommy to carry you, or you can walk on your own?”
“I can walk on my own.” Rosie rubbed her eyes, slid down to the floor, and held Summer’s hand. They then headed to the door with Jessica.
As soon as they emerged from the private dining room, they saw Carl heading their way with a staff member carrying something and following him from behind. Only when they got closer Summer finally made out what the thing was; it was a safe.
Before Carl could say anything, Jessica frowned and stopped him. “What are you doing again?”
“It’s my gift for Rosie.” While Carl spoke, he turned around, took the safe from the staff, and handed it to Summer. “Due to time constraints, there might not be sufficient preparation.”
With so many eyes looking, Summer could only accept the thing. “Thank you.”
The moment she took it in her hands, she nearly dropped it to the floor as it felt heavy. She was thinking of asking him what was inside. Why did he have to store the thing inside a safe? Was it something valuable? Gold bullion or cash?
She did not want to believe so, but she still thought the possibility was high. Not that she had any prejudice against the straight guy from a wealthy family. It was just that Carl was giving her this impression.
“It’s heavy indeed. I’ll ask someone to send it to your place,” Carl said.
Summer was about to speak, but on the periphery of her vision, she saw someone approaching them from behind Carl. “That someone is here.”
Carl followed her eyes and saw Leonardo coming in his direction. Behind him was Tim.
“Leonardo.” Carl smiled at him, but he just glanced at Carl, and his eyes moved to Summer.
Rosie saw him and shouted in excitement, “Daddy!”
Leonardo responded with an “Mhm”, his eyes back on Summer. Seeing that she was carrying a safe, he frowned. “What is that thing?”
While he spoke, he took the safe from Summer’s hand so naturally that it looked almost spontaneous.
