Chapter 405 Fragmented Memories

Book:CEO's Substitute Wife Published:2024-5-1

Leonardo had mentioned the night before that someone would drive them around today. Summer had thought it was a chauffeur, bodyguard, or someone else and did not expect Leonardo to send Tim over to pick them up.
“Hello, Ms. Jarrett,” Tim greeted as Summer brought Rosie out. He then turned to Rosie and smiled at her. “Hello, Rosie.”
Rosie recognized Tim and greeted him, “Uncle Tim.”
“How come it’s you, Tim?” Summer asked.
“Probably because the young master trusts me.” He wore a faint smile, appearing steady.
Since she was bringing Rosie out, Leonardo would of course want to send a man he trusted to fetch them. Summer suddenly realized this, and that explained everything.
“Thank you very much.” Summer nodded at him.
Tim returned a smile and opened the car door for her. Summer carried Rosie and got into the car.

Jessica had set the rendezvous at the Golden Cauldron after giving it much thought. The place was still the safest.
After sending them to the Golden Cauldron, Tim reported back to Leonardo at Emerson Corporation. After Leonardo found out Rosie’s true bloodline, Kate kept coming to look for trouble for the past few days. As Tim opened the door and walked into the president’s office, he could already hear Kate’s grating voice.
“So what if I was the one signing the contract? Don’t forget that I also own half of Emerson Corporation’s shares. You are not the only person who has a say.”
Right then, Tim heard Leonardo call his secretary through the intercom. “Come in and bring the vice president out.”
“Don’t go overboard, Leonardo!”
Kate was so furious that she hurled the documents to the floor and stormed out of the office without waiting for the secretary to escort her out.
Tim stepped aside, keeping his head low to give way to Kate.
She saw Tim standing by the door on her way out and sneered, “Stooge!” Then she stormed off.
There was no change of expression on his face as Tim closed the door behind him and came standing in front of Leonardo’s desk. “Young Master,” he greeted.
Leonardo was unaffected by Kate’s behavior. He was concentrating on the documents in front of him.
“So you have sent them over?” He did not look at Tim.
“Yes, Young Master.” Tim kept his head low.
Leonardo looked at him. “Any news on the neurosurgeon?”
“I’ve got him. He is available tonight, and I’ve scheduled an appointment with him. You can meet him straight away.”
“Mhm.”
Leonardo said no more. Tim would have gone out usually right after reporting whatever business he had. But today, he did not go out immediately.
“Anything else?” Leonardo looked at him.
He hesitated for a moment, then spoke his mind. “Young Master, have you… recovered your memory?”
He had reason to think so. It was out of character when Leonardo sent him to fetch Summer and Rosie. He felt so strange that he could not help but make the conjecture.
Leonardo squinted. There was a fleeting hint of gloominess in his eyes. “I have recalled some memories, but they are fragmented.” It was hard to piece together fragmented memories.
Tim was pleasantly surprised. But Leonardo looked gloomy as he got to his feet and came to the floor-to-ceiling window.
“Summer lost her memory because of physical trauma. She was in a coma for three years and at last, came out of it. Her loss of memory is explainable. I have consulted with doctors and done medical checkups; my injury wasn’t as severe as hers.”
So the unspoken conclusion was that his loss of memory could be man-made. Tim naturally knew what he meant. Before Leonardo fell out with Kate, he had sent Tim to investigate what had been happening to Summer for the past three years and knew everything, including her health. Leonardo was circumspect in everything he did. Before he broke away from Kate, he had investigated the background of everyone involved. The investigation was especially detailed on Summer.

The moment Summer brought Rosie into the Golden Cauldron, Carl immediately came up to them.
“Hi, Summer!” He was calling her name, but his eyes were on Rosie.
“Hi, Mr. Jones.” She had noticed that and pulled Rosie behind her.
Carl noticed what she did and smiled awkwardly. “Jessica is waiting for both of you in the private dining room.”
He then looked at Rosie and let out a gentle smile—at least that was what he thought so. “You must be Rosie. Hi, I am Uncle Jones!”
Rosie poked her head out from behind Summer. “Yeah.”
Carl broke out in a broad smile as he took a rainbow-colored lollipop out of nowhere and handed it to Rosie. “Would you like a lollipop?”
Had Summer not known Carl beforehand that he lacked no money, she would have thought he was a child trafficker.
Rosie saw the lollipop and her eyes went wide open. No child dislikes candy. She reached out her hand but quickly pulled it back and looked up at Summer.
“Mommy.” That was how she sought Summer’s permission.
Summer pursed her lips and smiled as she carried her up in her arms.
“You may accept the lollipop from Uncle Jones, but don’t forget to say thank you.”
Rosie glanced at Carl and reached out to take the lollipop. “Thank you, Uncle Jones.”
Carl grinned from ear to ear. “I don’t only have lollipops but many other snacks, French fries…”
Carl had listed many snacks, but Rosie’s attention was on French fries and candies. She snuggled in Summer’s arms and looked happily at the rainbow lollipop in her hand. Obviously, she was not interested in the other stuff that Carl said.
Carl felt hurt.
“Let’s go see Jessica now. Rosie’s still little. She can’t eat so many things,” Summer quickly said.
Carl nodded and brought them to the private dining room where Jessica was. The moment they came in, Jessica ran up to them, her eyes brightening up. “Come give me a hug, Rosie.”
Rosie hesitated for a second, then held out her hands.
Jessica was overjoyed. “I’m so surprised that Rosie wants me. Isn’t she afraid of strangers? So adorable…”
Jessica could not help but kiss Rosie several times on the cheek. Seeing that, Carl took a deep breath and looked away silently.
