Amber did not expect Leonardo to mention that when he spoke. Her face collapsed. “What do you mean?”
“I definitely can’t let you take care of Rosie since you can’t even understand something as simple as this.” Leonardo frowned, his voice even colder as his patience was wearing thin.
“I’m still your fiancée and Rosie’s biological mother no matter what. How can you talk to me like that?” Amber was angry and raising her voice, her calm and graceful demeanor disappearing. Enough was enough because it had been three years. Even if he was ice, ice should have melted by now. However, Leonardo seemed to be a rock; his attitude toward her was still the same.
“Firstly, Kate’s the one who claims that you’re my fiancée. It has nothing to do with me. Secondly, if you weren’t Rosie’s biological mother, do you think you’d still be sitting here and talking to me?”
Leonardo’s tone was so cold that it was cruel. Amber’s face turned pale as she could not find the words to respond. Grabbing her handbag, she headed for the door. At that moment, she bumped into Kate, who happened to come in at the same time.
“Amber? Where are you going? Please stay. It’s late at night now.”
Kate tried to stop her, but Amber cautiously glanced back inside, then brought Kate to a quiet corner outside. Under the dim streetlight, Kate saw Amber’s reddened eyes.
“What happened?” Kate asked, her expression changing.
“Kate, I can’t stand Leonardo anymore. He’s just like a rock…” She told Kate what Leonardo had said to her, and Kate just listened without a word. Amber was depressed as she took a breath. “You shouldn’t have brought Rosie back then. Leonardo treats her better than me!”
“You shouldn’t say that. Rosie is Leonardo’s daughter.” Kate placed great importance on bloodline and family.
Leonardo could not remember his past, so Kate told him that Amber was Rosie’s biological mother. That way, Leonardo would at least grow some special feelings for Amber. Sadly, it turned out that he was very loving toward Rosie but cold toward Amber. Just because nothing had changed for three years, Kate deliberately leaked the narrative that Amber was Leonardo’s fiancée to the media.
Amber was not too happy with Kate’s reply, but she did not retort. “I’m tired. I’ll go home now.”
“Let the chauffeur send you. I’ll think of a way.” As she said that, Kate patted her on the shoulder.
…
After Amber left, Kate went back into the house.
Leonardo was having his dinner. Rosie was next to him, sitting in a kid’s chair, holding a baby blue bowl, and enjoying her fruits. Her keen eyes immediately noticed Kate coming in, and she greeted her.
“Rosie, are you enjoying the fruits?” Kate walked over all smiles.
Rosie reached for a fork and picked up a piece of cut watermelon before she held it up to Kate. “Auntie, eat.”
When Kate looked at the little chunk of watermelon, which was half mashed and seemingly coated with Rosie’s saliva, she hesitated. Kate held Rosie’s hand and put the unpalatable-looking chunk of watermelon back to Rosie’s mouth. “You enjoy it yourself, Rosie. Eat more and you will grow to become pretty.”
Leonardo heard that and turned to glance at Kate. “Rosie, Daddy wants a piece of apple.”
Hearing that, Rosie’s eyes brightened up. She stuffed the watermelon into her mouth, then accurately picked up a piece of cut apple and delivered it to Leonardo’s mouth. Leonardo then ate it.
“You finish the rest.”
As if Rosie had received encouragement, she dropped the fork and grabbed the fruits with her bare hands. Kate wanted to stop Rosie, but Leonardo interrupted her.
“You haven’t eaten yet, have you?”
“Not yet.”
“Then join us. Don’t bother Rosie,” he casually said. When Kate entered the dining room just now, a maid had laid out the table for her at the seat opposite Leonardo.
After Rosie finished the cut fruits in the bowl, she pulled at Leonardo’s sleeve and raised her bowl in the air. “Daddy, I’m done.”
She was still munching on a mouthful of fruits, her chubby cheeks appearing even rounder. Leonardo found it funny and reached out to pinch her cheek.
“Ouch, what are you doing, Daddy?” Rosie smacked his hand away.
Leonardo pulled his hand back, and immediately, a maid took a tissue paper and to wipe the juice stains around Rosie’s mouth. However, Rosie was not being very cooperative. She held out both hands at Leonardo, wanting him to lift her out of the kid’s chair.
“I’ll do it.” Leonardo took the tissue paper from the maid and wiped Rosie’s mouth, then he lifted her and allowed her to sit on his lap. “Sit tight.”
Rosie sat quietly as she was told, and Leonardo continued his meal.
Seeing the father-daughter interaction, Kate frowned. “You shouldn’t spoil her while she’s still young.”
Rosie was studying Leonardo’s throat curiously by touching his Adam’s apple. As he swallowed, his Adam’s apple moved up and down, arousing Rosie’s interest. Leonardo caught her hand and gave her a warning look. Rosie got the message and leaned in his arms quietly. Leonardo then looked up at Kate.
“When have I spoiled her?” he asked casually.
Kate could not respond. Looking at Leonardo’s impassive face and then at Rosie, who was quiet and clever, she pressed her lips together without a word.
When Leonardo finally finished his dinner, Rosie had nearly dozed off. He gingerly carried her into the bedroom upstairs and placed her on the bed. Rosie whimpered a little as he put her down. He gave her a pat on the back, and she fell back to sleep again.
Staring at the little meatball who was sleeping like a pig, Leonardo thought of the time when he first came out of his coma and could remember nothing. He was forced to care for this daughter of his. Most of the time, it was the maids who handled it. It was not until one day when he came home from work and the little meatball toddled over to kiss him that his attitude changed.
That was probably the magic of a person’s bloodline. He could not remember his relationship with Amber in the past and never had feelings toward her. Yet, he felt that Rosie was important to him.
After making sure that Rosie was asleep, Leonardo quietly went out and closed the door. He saw Kate outside. Apparently, she had been waiting there for some time.
“Leonardo, I need to talk to you.”
Leonardo tucked his hands into his pants pockets with a devil-may-care attitude. “If it’s about Amber, you can save your breath. I’m tired of hearing it.”
“Amber is a superb woman. She’s head over heels for you and Rosie’s biological mother. Furthermore, she’s not young anymore—”
Leonardo cut her off and retorted, “You’re not young too. You should get married first.”
“Leonardo! You…”
