Adams had a radiant smile on his face, and the tone he spoke in was the same when Summer first met him.
But Summer knew best that beneath Adams’s seemingly calm exterior was a raging beast with its fangs bared.
He was waiting for the opportunity to destroy everything.
Summer looked at Adams before turning to Leonardo. “Are you all right?”
“What’s wrong?” Leonardo looked down at her, and the moment he held her hand, he felt her hand was so cold as if it had been in an ice bath, and there was still sweat on her hands.
Leonardo frowned and looked in the direction Summer came from yet he did not see anyone else.
This meant that Tim had already successfully brought the children on board the boat, then what would make Summer so nervous and afraid?
Adams pushed the brim of the baseball cap on his head and gently said, “Since you’ve already taken the child. You should return Rachel to me.”
Rachel had the chance to leave earlier, but she did not and followed Summer over, but she was far behind.
Rachel went straight to Adams and called out to him with a smile. “Adams.”
“Come here.” Adams smiled and his whole person looked gentle and elegant without the trace of madness.
Summer took the opportunity when Adams’s attention was on Rachel and grabbed Leonardo palm as she turned her back to Adams and whispered soundlessly to Leonardo, “Explosives.”
Leonardo read her lips, and there were no significant changes to his expression, and only the narrowing of his eyes was any indication that his current thoughts.
Clearly, Summer’s words did not seem to surprise Leonardo.
Summer turned and looked at Adams, and saw him looking affectionately at Rachel.
He held Rachel’s hand and did not say a word, yet Summer felt it was very moving.
Perhaps only the woman called Rachel could calm the madness deep within Adams.
“Leonardo. You outdid yourself. She looked exactly like Rachel.” Adams suddenly looked at Leonardo, his smile grew deeper and deeper. “For six long years, Rachel had been lonely. We should go find her now.” Adams seemed to have thought of something, and his gaze became strangely bizarre and contented.
At this moment, Leonardo suddenly shouted. “Run!”
Before the voice faded away, Summer felt that she was being pulled by Leonardo to the beach.
Left behind was Adams’s maniacal laughter. “It’s useless. I had buried explosives under the entire golf course. Let’s go look for Rachel together…”
Whatever he was saying toward the end was obscured by the din of the explosion.
Summer’s last memory of Adams was him at the back of the explosion with a calm look, and a smile on his face as he stood there.
The distance between the golf course and the seaside at this moment seemed to be without end.
Mud and turf were bombarding them all over, and Summer ran, she said, “Take care of Rosie, don’t mind me.”
Summer’s stamina was unlike Leonardo’s and in this moment of life and death, where the race is between life and time, she will only drag Leonardo down.
The roar of the explosions was right behind them.
Leonardo’s expression was still calm.
Summer realized that Leonardo wanted to reach out and carry her as he ran, and so exerted all of her strength and pushed him away.
Summer had used all of her strength, and Leonardo’s body fell backward. Behind him, was already the sea, and there was a high possibility of him surviving the fall.
Leonardo’s eyes widened in disbelief, as fear and panic flashed through those normally emotionless eyes.
Summer wanted to smile at him, but it was too late…
…
Tim waited on the boat for a while, and after seeing that Summer had yet to return, he planned to get off the board to search for her.
But just as he was about to get off the boat, he heard the deafening explosion.
A subordinate behind him said in shock. “There’s an explosion over there!”
“Young master!” Tim murmured and was about to rush off the boat.
Yet at that moment, the boat started to move.
Tim immediately walked to the bridge. “What are you doing?”
The captain was horrified. “There’s an explosion, we are of course leaving!”
“Tie him up,” Tim ordered, and someone tied the captain up.
Tim then quickly rushed off the boat.
The ground zero of the explosion was the golf course.
They ran over and almost half of the island had been reduced to ruins, and they had no idea where to start looking amidst the sea of smoke.
Tim contacted the search and rescue team.
And thankfully, the search and rescue crew quickly rushed over and started a large-scale search and rescue operation.
Coming along at the same time was Kate.
The moment she arrived at the scene, she lost her temper at Tim. “Why did this happen? You had been following Leonardo so why did he run into an accident while you are fine!”
Tim lowered his head and said expressionlessly. “The important thing is to look for the young master and the young mistress first.”
“Which young mistress? Summer?” Kate’s expression darkened as she heard Summer’s name. “I knew that with Leonardo’s ability this would not have happened, he must have been dragged down along…”
Tim had been restraining himself, and upon hearing what Kate said, he could not help but hiss coldly. “Miss Emerson, you know nothing about what has happened, best not to jump to conclusions.”
“You…” Kate did not expect Tim to dare to talk back to her.
As he said that, he ignored her outright and went along the search and rescue team to help with the search.
The terrain had made the search and rescue efforts much more difficult.
On the afternoon of the day after the explosion, they found Adams and Rachel.
Both of them had no signs of life.
Tim’s heart sank, did the worst befall the young master and the young mistress?
That night, they finally found Leonardo.
But Leonardo’s breathing was very weak.
The accompanying medical personnel immediately started emergency treatment, and Tim quickly asked. “Young master, can you hear me?”
Leonardo moved his lips as if to say something.
Tim closed in to listen and heard him mutter unconsciously, “Jarrett…”
The words that followed were inaudible.
But Tim knew in his heart what Leonardo meant.
Tim solemnly said, “I understand. I will definitely find the young mistress.”
After sending Leonardo onto the boat, Tim wanted to search for Summer with his men.
But as he turned around, he heard Kate say to the people of the search and rescue team. “We have found the person we are looking for. Thank you for your hard work.”
Tim immediately walked over. “Miss Emerson. We have yet to find the young mistress.”
Kate sneered. “What young mistress? Since when Leonardo had a young mistress?”
As she said that, she ordered her underlings. “Thank you Special Assistant Tim for your hard work. You guys take Special Assistant Tim back to the boat to rest.”
