Chapter 353 Unease

Book:CEO's Substitute Wife Published:2024-5-1

Hearing that, Leonardo only said with indifference. “Is that so, they only want 50 million in cash, they wanted 100 million back then.”
As Michael was too frightened, he slurred as he spoke. “Yes… Yes… They just only asked for 50 million cash, give it to them…”
Leonardo was now his only savior now, and he could only grasp onto Leonardo tightly.
“In that case, why did you refuse to give them that 100 million back then?” Leonardo’s voice was so dark as if he was a devil that had just crawled out of hell.
“Leonardo… Leonardo, I’m your father, save me…” Michael’s only thought at this moment was to beg Leonardo.
“If you had cared just a little for your wife, my mother would not have ended up like that! Michael, this is your retribution!”
Every word from Leonardo’s mouth was hissed out of it and slammed the phone with a loud bang as soon as he said that.
It was already dusk at that point.
All of the servants were ordered out, and the hall was not lit, which made it look really dim.
In the large living room, aside from Leonardo and Tim who stood behind him quietly, there was only Kate who had fainted.
Leonardo still maintained his posture, and sat unmoving there, as if wanting to be one with the coming night.
After a long while, Tim said worriedly, “Young Master.”
Summer had come downstairs by then.
She walked softly and Tim immediately hid the torn arm that the kidnappers had sent over. “Young Mistress.”
Summer ordered, “Bring Ms. Emerson back to her room. I’ll be here.”
Tim took Kate and the torn arm away.
Summer then sat down beside Leonardo.
The sky was getting darker, and in the unlit room, she could barely see Leonardo’s face with any clarity.
Summer reached out and held his face, turning it over to face her. “Leonardo.”
Leonardo turned his head over, and forcefully pulled Summer into his arms, yet he did not forget that the wound of her shoulder had yet to fully heal.
Summer reached out and gently patted Leonardo on the back. At times like this, words of comfort were unnecessary.
She could feel that Leonardo’s repressed breathing was being exhaled heavily upon her neck.
“My mother was a very gentle, a very beautiful woman. She was better than anyone else.” Leonardo’s voice was hoarse and in pain.
Summer’s eyes were slightly teary. “I know.”
She knew that Leonardo’s mother was a very fine woman. A lady born out of a family of scholars, and had thought that she had married the right man, only to die in such a horrific manner.
That was simply unfair!
The most innocent people often suffered the worst of pain and suffering.
“How could they do it?”
Summer could not see Leonardo’s face, but she could feel the pain and helplessness in his words.
Years after that incident, his mother, Daisy had always been a perpetual thorn in his heart that hurt every time it’s touched.
If Leonardo’s mother were to really perish in that kidnapping case back then, he would not be suffering so much.
Summer had no answer to Leonardo’s question.
His question was destined to have no answer to it.
She was not Michael or Violet, so she could not fathom what sort of mindset they had when they did this back in the day.
If an outsider like her would find what they did difficult to accept, she could not even begin to imagine how painful it was for Leonardo.
She hugged Leonardo and her tone was serious and determined. “You still have me, and Rosie, our family will reunite soon, and if your mother were to know that you are happy. She would be happy for you too. Yes, she loved you very much.
Just as she said that, she felt slightly warm droplets falling onto her neck.
Summer did not move, and could not find any more words.

The next day.
Summer and Leonardo left for the island that Adams had mentioned.
The island was surrounded by sea on all sides and had beautiful scenery. Flying from Hoover City took a full day and night.
Before they left, Summer saw the latest headline.
“The kidnapped Michael has been found and sent to the hospital for emergency rescue. He is currently out of danger.”
Summer roughly read the news and closed the webpage before putting her phone away before looking at Leonardo sitting opposite of her.
She had sat with Leonardo in the hall for a long time last night, and then she fell asleep herself. By the time she woke up, she was already on the plane.
As always, Leonardo was in a fitting suit, with a stack of documents in his hand. His lowered eyes were cold and indifferent.
This man’s self-regulation ability was amazingly strong.
“Seems like I’m much more attractive than breakfast.” Leonardo put down the documents in his hand and looked up at her. “You had stared at me for a good two minutes without touching your breakfast.”
Summer was stunned for a moment and then bit into a bun with her head lowered before saying. “I didn’t even know you had a private jet.”
This time around, they took Leonardo’s private jet.
Leonardo lowered his head and continued to read the information in his hand. “If you liked it, I’ll buy one for you when we get back.”
Summer did not move after having two steamed buns and sat beside him, reading.
What Leonardo was reading was some information on the islet and Adams’s movements during the past six months.
When Adams gave him the address, in addition to sending someone to keep an eye on Adams, he had also sent someone to scout the island in advance.
But aside from the house and the servants guarding the place, there was no trace of Rosie on the island.
The corner of Summer’s mouth twitched, and she said worriedly, “Adams is just too cunning. I’ve always felt that things would not go smoothly.”
“Do you believe me?” Leonardo put down the document in his hand, as he reached out and pulled her into his arms.
Summer looked up and said word by word, “I always believe in you.”
Leonardo then plucked a hair by her ear for her. “Then don’t think too much.”
Summer nodded and turned to look out of the window, yet the uneasiness in her heart did not go away.
She took a deep breath and stood up. “I’ll go and see Ms. Rachel.”
Leonardo seemed to be able to see her unease and did not say much, only nodding and letting her go.
When Summer walked over, she saw Rachel sitting by the window looking quiet and beautiful.
Summer called out to her, “Ms. Rachel.”
Rachel turned around and looked at her. “Young mistress.”
“I’m sorry, I did not know your original name.” Summer could not actually imagine what the woman had experienced that drove her to completely change her looks into another woman.
Rachel said indifferently. “It does not matter who I originally was. The most important thing is, the young master had aided me, and my presence just happened to be able to help you get the young lady back.”
