Chapter 332 I’ll Be Fine as Long as You Are Fine

Leonardo shoved the glass into Summer’s hand. “They don’t have to prove that you heard their secret. They will stop at nothing to silence you when they think you are a threat to them.”
Summer’s hand felt cold in his.
“Are you scared?” he asked.
She did not answer as she suddenly felt a lump in her throat.
“Will Rosie be okay?”
Michael and his gang were ruthless. Summer did not have high hopes that they would be compassionate toward a baby.
“No, as long as they need me to sell my soul to Emerson Corporation, they aren’t going to harm Rosie.”
Summer felt a little better now, keeping her head low while deep in thought. Leonardo did not say a thing and just held her hand in silence.
After a while, she said, “I don’t understand why they’re doing so many things. What are they trying to hide?”
“Do you still remember when Grandpa once asked you to send me a message saying that he wanted to see me?”
“I remember.” Summer nodded.
“Grandpa said that after I spent my New Year at the old residence, he would tell me everything I wanted to know.” Leonardo’s expression was stern. “Including the truth about the kidnapping.”
Leonardo had never told Summer about that. The more she knew about the Emerson family, the more danger she would put herself into.
Summer quickly put two and two together. “Is it because your dad and the others want to bury the truth of the matter? Are they going to silence everyone who might potentially find out the truth?” She paused, knitting her brows together. “They thought that I had heard what they said and Grandpa wanted to tell you the truth, so Grandpa and I needed to die.”
Leonardo remained silent, which Summer took as an admission.
A long while later, Summer said, “I saw your aunt and dad entering a room together. If what they were trying to hide was the truth of the kidnapping, doesn’t that mean they were accomplices and your aunt was involved in the case?”
Leonardo seemed to be tired as he pinched his brows with his hand and leaned back on the sofa with his eyes closed.
“Your grandpa previously told me that he saw my aunt at the scene of the kidnapping,” said Leonardo, his voice low and cold.
“How many things are you still keeping from me?” Summer pursed her lips. However, she knew it was not the time to question him about it.
“Was it because my grandpa saw your aunt that he was forced to ‘retire’ abroad?” If that’s the case, then it would explain everything. “Why don’t we go and ask my grandpa again?”
However, Leonardo rejected the idea. “That won’t be necessary.”
“But—”
“It’s late now. Let’s hit the sack.” Leonardo cut Summer off before she could say anything.
Summer knew that he did not want to talk about it, so she did not pursue it further.
Leonardo used to be close to Violet, who also acted as a confidant to Leonardo’s mother. If Violet was involved with the kidnapping back then…
Why did they do such a thing to Leonardo’s mother, though? One was her husband, and the other was her bestie. Did these two people conspire to kill her?
Leonardo then got to his feet. Seeing that Summer was still sitting there, he pulled her up roughly. She screamed, but Leonardo put his finger to her lips, telling her not to utter a word. His expression was extremely grave and solemn.
“Summer, stop digging into the case anymore. Don’t see your grandpa, and especially don’t see Violet and Michael—you mustn’t.”
Summer did not agree to it, but Leonardo’s expression had scared the wits out of her. After a long time, Summer finally uttered, “You’re being unreasonable.”
He continued, “Let me reason with you now. I’ll be fine as long as you are fine. If something happens to you, it will kill me.”
His voice was flat, but his every word was crystal clear to her. She was dumbfounded by what he said. Leonardo noticed that she did not respond for a long while, so he asked again, “Did you hear me?”
She looked somewhat baffled. “I heard you but didn’t get what you mean. Could you please repeat it?”
“You really want to hear it again?”
He squinted at her, and she nodded in return. His lips moved a little, and she was all ears, thinking that he was going to say it again. But the next second, Leonardo swept her up in his arms and carried her into the bathroom.
“Aren’t you going to say it again?” she protested in his arms.
“I didn’t say that.”
Summer gave him a good punching in the chest. “Then why did you ask if I really wanted to hear it again?”
“I was just asking.”

Due to last night’s late-night chat, Summer did not wake up even after Leonardo left for work. When she finally rose, it was already late in the morning.
She leaned on the headboard, spacing out and thinking about what Michael, as well as Violet, had done. They were trying to hide the truth regarding the kidnapping of Leonardo and his mother.
She suddenly had a light bulb moment as she realized something. What Leonardo should find out now was not just how they pulled off the kidnapping but also why they wanted to do it and why they wanted to target his mom. They were not only trying to hide the truth of the kidnapping. There was also another reason for their conspiracy.
After that occurred to Summer, she quickly took out her mobile phone and called Leonardo.
“You’re awake.” Leonardo answered her call at warp speed.
“Leonardo, it just dawned on me that what’s most important right now is to find out the reason for the kidnapping. Both of them were the closest people to your mom. Why would they suddenly be so ruthless? There has to be some secret there. I suspect that the reason for what happened to Grandpa is the same as for what happened to your mom!”
Leonardo was silent for an extended period, to the point that Summer called him out.
“Leonardo, are you listening?”
“I’m listening.” His voice was a pitch lower this time. He was a person who never showed his emotions, but those who knew him could perceive the changes in his emotion through his tone of voice.
