Leonardo went back to his room and replayed what Violet had said in his mind once again.
There were no gaps, and everything made sense, yet he felt that there was something wrong.
Leonardo felt that he still needed to see Nathan.
Nathan and Violet were a couple since young, but their relationship had been gradually deteriorating over the years.
In his memory, Nathan was a very gentle and meticulous person. He had a romantic flair unique to an artist and was already famous in his younger days. But in order to accompany Violet, he did not focus much on his career.
On the contrary, in the past few years, he had been busy going about holding art exhibitions, participating in all sorts of activities, and even not going back to the Emerson household for Chinese New Year.
Leonardo made up his mind and went downstairs to ask for Nathan’s phone number.
When he lived in Violet’s residence back then, his relationship with Nathan was not bad, but after he returned to Hoover City, contact between the two lessened, and had pretty much broken off contact between them.
He called Nathan’s phone number.
The phone rang several times before it got connected.
“Hello?” Nathan’s voice was very gentle, and this was a trait Adams had adopted from him.
Leonardo said flatly, “Uncle, it’s me.”
Nathan’s tone contained a little surprise. “Leonardo?”
“It’s me. Where are you? Can we talk if you have the time?” Leonardo’s memory of Nathan stopped many years back, but he knew that Nathan would not reject his request.
Nathan was silent for a moment before saying, “Of course, but I’m not going back to Hoover City.”
“I’m in M Country, at your home.”
The phone went silent again.
Leonardo did not push Nathan, and simply waited quietly for his reply.
“All right. My exhibition ends this afternoon, and I will be home tonight. But don’t let your aunt know about this.”
“Understood.”
Nathan can come back tonight, and the time was just right.
After hanging up the phone, Leonardo closed his eyes slightly, and recalled that “Don’t let your aunt know about this”, which Nathan had uttered.
If he was to analyze the sentence, it had plenty of meaning to it.
Nathan was willing to talk to Leonardo provided that Violet did not know about it, and Leonardo did not even say what they were going to talk about.
Clearly, Nathan knew what Leonardo wanted to talk to him about.
That was the mutual understanding between smart people.
…
In the evening, Leonardo spoke to Nathan on the phone again and decided to meet at a cafe in the city.
By the time Leonardo arrived, it was exactly six o’clock.
He ordered a cup of coffee and sat by a spot where he could see the parking lot facing the door as he waited for Nathan to come.
After half an hour, he suddenly heard several screams.
Following that was a series of loud footsteps and exclamations.
“Oh my god! There’s a car accident!”
“How’s the person?”
“Call an ambulance!”
Leonardo frowned slightly and did not care much about it at first.
But suddenly something seemed to have crossed his mind, and he quickly stood up and headed outside.
He pushed the crowd away and walked to the front of the man who was hit by the car.
The victim was a middle-aged man, and his white shirt was stained with blood, with only a faintly white neckline, his entire face had been hit so hard that he could no longer see the person’s original look.
Leonardo squatted down and reached out to wipe the blood of the man’s face so he could have a look at it.
This man, he was Nathan!
Leonardo stopped right there and exclaimed, “Uncle? Nathan?”
The man lying on the ground twitched his finger and there was nothing.
Someone took out Nathan’s wallet and looked at his ID. “This man is called Nathan.”
“My goodness, that painter?”
“My daughter had always wanted to see his art exhibition!”
At this moment, the police had arrived.
“Make way, make way please.”
The police soon drove away all of the onlookers before coming over to Leonardo. “Sir, please get up, and do not obstruct us.”
Leonardo stood up with a cold expression and stepped aside with an impassive look.
He looked at the policeman reaching out to check on Nathan’s breathing and said to the police beside him, “He’s no longer breathing.”
…
Leonardo followed the police to the police station, and they soon informed Violet.
When Violet arrived, she looked like a lost soul. “Nathan? Where’s Nathan?”
The police officer stepped forward to stop Violet. “Mrs. Wilson, my condolences.”
Violet saw Leonardo and went directly to him. “Leonardo, what happened to your uncle? How did this happen?”
Leonardo looked up, and looked at the weeping woman whose eyes were red and swollen, and said, “I’ll accompany you to see him.”
When Violet saw Nathan’s body, she immediately fainted.
Leonardo stood before Nathan’s body alone, and his mood dour.
Nathan may not be Adams’s biological father, but he was Douglas’s biological father.
Plus, Douglas and Nathan had a good relationship.
Nathan’s case was still under investigation, and whether this case was an accident or intentional has yet to be determined.
Throughout the process, Leonardo was cooperating with the police to deal with the matter.
By the time everything was done, it was already.
It was still daytime in China.
Leonardo sat on the edge of the flowerbed outside the police station and called Summer.
The phone rang twice before Summer answered it.
Summer’s gentle voice came from the phone. “Leonardo?”
“I’ve asked her about the matter regarding Adams.”
“What did she say?”
Leonardo reiterated Violet’s words to Summer.
Summer demurred for a moment and asked him, “Do you think that is the case?”
It was obvious that Summer did not seem to believe that as well.
But this was not the time to investigate the truth of the matter.
Leonardo then said with a hoarse voice, “Uncle passed away in a car accident.”
Summer thought for a bit before finally reacting. Leonardo’s uncle was Douglas’s father.
“Have you notified Douglas?” Summer asked.
“Someone had already told him.” There was a trace of fatigue in Leonardo’s voice.
“It’s midnight now in M Country. Take care of yourself, and take a break at times.” Being so far apart, she could only tell him that.
Just as Summer hung up, she got a call from Tim.
What Tim told her was the news of Nathan passing away in a car accident.
Tim had learned about this from Michael’s men.
Summer did not know that Nathan met an accident when he was on his way to an appointment with Leonardo, so she had thought it was just a normal car accident.
In the end, Summer said. “Tim, go with them to M Country. Leonardo will probably go there with Douglas as well. I will be fine staying alone at Hoover City, and Leonardo is alone overseas and things might not be too convenient for him.”
Tim had planned to go to M Country with Leonardo, and upon hearing Summer saying so, he had no more concerns and flew over to M Country with Michael and the rest on the same day.
