Summer woke up the next morning and did not see Leonardo anywhere in the room.
She got out of bed, put on a jacket, came to the door, and found that the door was open ajar. It was a suite with a living room. Peeking through the gap in the door, she saw Leonardo sitting on the sofa talking on the phone with an indistinct voice. She could not hear what he said but only saw his lips moving.
As if Leonardo had sensed her stare, he looked over in her direction. Busted, she may as well open the door and go out.
Still on the phone, he reached for the pot and poured her a glass of hot water. Summer took it in her hands, and he continued talking on the phone.
There were a couple of knocks on the door outside. Summer glanced at Leonardo, and he said, “I’ve ordered room service.”
She got up to open the door, face impassive. A waitstaff pushed a food cart into the room, and then placed the breakfast on the table before saying politely, “Mr. Emerson ordered this breakfast. Please enjoy it.”
“Thank you.” Summer then locked the door as the waitstaff left.
At the door, the waitstaff suddenly looked back. “Ms. Jarrett.”
Summer was startled and looked up. The waitstaff shoved a piece of paper in her hand and left quickly. She came to her senses and kept it in her pocket. Turning around, she cautiously glanced at Leonardo.
He hung up the phone and looked over at her. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.” Summer closed the door behind her and came to sit down at the dining table as if nothing had happened. She did not know what the piece of note was about. She did not dare to look at it now, but as a result, she was a little absentminded. Fearing that Leonardo might notice that, she bowed her head and ate.
After finishing her breakfast finally, she got up and went into the washroom. Locking the door, she took out the note. In just a glance, she was wide-eyed.
The note said, “Do you want to escape?” Below it was a string of alphabets and numbers of what might look like a car license plate. Even the license plate looked familiar.
She memorized the plate and then flushed the note down the toilet. When she came out of the washroom, she saw Leonardo’s expressionless face.
“You locked the door? Trying to find a way to escape again?” His voice was anything but friendly.
“Oh, yeah.” Summer raised her chin and spoke semi-seriously. “I just found that there is no way to escape from the washroom.”
Leonardo’s face was grim. He forced his words through his teeth when he spoke. “It does you no good to piss me off.”
She spread out her hand. “It already did me no good even though I didn’t piss you off.” She took pleasure in seeing him pissed.
…
After breakfast, Leonardo brought Summer to check out the hotel as they were ready to head back to Hoover City.
Once out of the hotel, and while Tim and Leonardo were talking, Summer scanned the cars parked up in front of the entrance. She could not see any car with the same license plate written on the note. So what was going on?
The license plate was familiar to her, and that meant the owner of the vehicle and her knew each other. Not just that, the owner even knew her situation. It was apparent that the person wanted to help.
Now was her only chance to escape from Leonardo. Once she was inside the car, she would have to follow him back to Hoover City.
Just then, she saw a black vehicle emerging from the corner not far away. The vehicle went into reverse for a couple of meters, then moved forward a couple of meters again. This strange movement had caught Summer’s attention.
She stepped forward a couple of steps and could now make out the vehicle’s license plate; it was exactly the same license plate on the note.
She was excited and nervous. She turned to look at Leonardo, who was standing just two meters from away. Noticing her stare, he waved at her, motioning her to come over to him.
Summer’s heart was racing. There was an opportunity before her; she could get away from Leonardo’s control. How could she let it slip away?
She walked toward Leonardo, and from the corner of her eye, she saw the black vehicle was moving slowly toward this side. It was getting closer and closer. She made a rough calculation in her mind; if she ran toward the car from where she was, it only took half a minute.
Just half a minute…
As she was thinking, she had come in front of Leonardo. He held her hand with a smile.
“We will be back to Hoover City soon,” he said.
She found his smile too glaring. Her heart almost pounded through her chest, but she remained calm on the outside.
“Where will we stay when we get back?”
“Anywhere you like.” Leonardo said in a pampering voice.
“Really?”
“Really.”
She glanced at the vehicle from the corner of her eye. Making up her mind, she raised her head and kissed his lips. Leonardo was startled by her sudden gesture and let her kiss him. After a few seconds, he reached to place his hands on her waist.
Tim and the other bodyguards consciously turned around. The two had not made out since Summer was pregnant, and Leonardo could only quench his desire by intimate hugs and kisses. Now that Summer was making the first move, he could not have resisted.
Just when he was immersed in her passionate kisses, Summer suddenly broke away from him. He was yearning for more. His hands were still wrapping her waist, but his guard was down. Taking this opportunity, she forcefully pushed him back.
Leonardo was caught unawares and fell backward. Summer and Leonardo were eye-to-eye for a second as he fell. During that split second, she saw a sense of disbelief in his black eyes. She smirked.
She broke away and ran as quickly as she could toward the vehicle. The door car swung open waiting for her the moment she started running.
“Summer!” Leonardo’s furious voice was heard coming from behind her. She instinctively held her abdomen as she picked up her pace.
The bodyguards came to their senses when they heard Leonardo’s shout and gave chase to Summer.
Before the bodyguards could get to her, she had reached the vehicle and gotten in. Quickly shutting the door, she turned around to look at her pursuers. The bodyguards turned around and went back to get their cars. But she could not see Leonardo’s reaction as he was at the rear.
