There had never been equality in her relationship with Leonardo.
He was domineering and controlling. Besides, it was not his time first limiting her freedom. Even without the Grandpa Emerson incident, there had always been problems between them. Instead of becoming a sitting duck, waiting for the trial to begin, she wanted to find out the truth on her own. Although the Emerson family was powerful and influential, and fighting them was like throwing straws against the wind, she believed that no one could bury the truth forever.
…
After Grandpa Emerson regained consciousness, Leonardo had returned to Emerson Corporation and made time to visit Grandpa Emerson in the hospital.
Following a meeting at 10. 00 a. m., Leonardo received a call from his bodyguard.
“Mr. Emerson, Mrs. Emerson is smashing things up again and driving all of the maids out of the mansion.”
Summer was smashing things again? People mentioned online that women had bad mood swings during pregnancy, so Leonardo was silent. After a moment, he said, “Let her be.”
Hearing Leonardo’s reply, the bodyguard sighed. The young master was spoiling his wife, but the bodyguard still could not figure out whether it was the young master’s wife who pushed his grandpa. People out there said that it was her.
The young master seemed to suspect his wife too, but judging from his actions, the young master did not mistreat his wife because of the Grandpa Emerson incident. There was no way he could wrap his brain around it.
After hanging up, Leonardo walked to his office, which was just ten meters from the conference room. On the way, an assistant handed him two urgent documents for him to sign. He read the documents as he headed toward his room. Just as he finished reading the second document and was about to put down his signature, he thought of what the bodyguard told him over the phone.
Stopping what he was doing, he reached for his mobile phone, but he accidentally knocked it to the floor. In his mind, Summer was not overbearing, willful, or ill-tempered. She did not have the habit of smashing things up just because she was in a black mood.
The last time she mentioned smashing things, it was because she wanted to steal her household register in his study. So, she must also have a purpose this time if she was smashing things. He knew that Summer had been down recently, and he was not going to make a fuss over her little smashing-things-up behavior. However, he mulled over what the bodyguard said. “… Smashing things up again and driving all of the maids out of the mansion…”
Seeing that he had dropped his mobile phone, the assistant picked it up for him. The assistant was someone Leonardo had personally brought into Emerson Corporation. He saw Leonardo as an impassive robot, but now he almost thought that he was imagining things when he saw Leonardo’s panicked expression. He handed the mobile phone to Leonardo.
“President, are you all right?” the assistant asked cautiously.
Leonardo clenched his jaw, his face terribly grave. Ignoring the assistant’s question, he called the bodyguard back.
The call went through quickly, and before he could say anything, the bodyguard’s nervous voice came. “Mr. Emerson, your wife has locked herself in the mansion. We are worried if she is—”
Leonardo bounced up and roared, “Perform forced entry! If anything happens to her, all of you will have to take full responsibility!”
The assistant by his side dared not say a word. Leonardo ignored him as he took his mobile phone and strode out, bumping into Michael at the doorway.
Michael stopped him. “Where are you going? I need to talk to you.”
Leonardo pushed him away, looking at him grimly. They were eye-to-eye for a split second, both not uttering a word. Michael took half a step back when he saw the hatred in Leonardo’s eyes.
Hatred? Leonardo suddenly became restrained. “Something is going on at home. I have to go,” he said faintly.
Without giving Michael the chance to speak, Leonardo hurriedly made his way around him and left. He sped all the way home, and when he arrived, the mansion was entirely engulfed in flames. Looking at the fire, Leonardo was rooted to the spot for a full two seconds. When he came out of his shock, he ran straight into the mansion. But, the bodyguards stopped him.
“Mr. Emerson, the fire has spread everywhere. You can’t go in like this…”
Leonardo had practiced martial arts before. He would whack whoever stood in his way. The bodyguards did not dare to fight back. In fact, they were also not a match for him. At last, they all were knocked down to the ground, and Leonardo ran into the burning house.
The mansion was engulfed in flames, from the living room and inward. The radiant heat was so intense that it scorched the skin.
By then, Tim had arrived. He ran in and pulled Leonardo back.
“Young Master, you can’t go in there!”
Leonardo refused to listen, and he flung Tim’s hand away. Tim had been working for Leonardo for the longest time, and his words carried weight. He had brought a few bodyguards with him, and as he motioned them with his eyes, they got the message. One bodyguard gave Leonardo a chop on the back of his neck and he dropped to the ground.
Tim instructed them to carry Leonardo into the car and lock him inside. His brows were knitted together even when he was unconscious.
The firefighters soon arrived, but because of the scale of the fire, it took them nearly two hours to put it out. The fire had reduced the once beautiful mansion into a pile of rubble and ruin.
Tim then brought someone into the ruin. One could not even recognize the appearance of the mansion, let alone find someone in here. Leonardo regained his consciousness, and the bodyguards dared not keep him inside the car anymore, so they let him out.
Leonardo’s eyes were red like he was a mad lion. He held a bodyguard by his shirt and demanded grimly, “Where is Summer?”
“She… She…” The bodyguard saw Leonardo’s expression and could not even put his words together.
Leonardo grabbed him by the lapels, blue veins popping out on the back of his hand as he roared, “I’m asking you, where is Summer?”
The bodyguard stammered and could not say anything. Leonardo let the bodyguard go and ran into the mansion.
Tim and his men were searching inside. He knew very well that if Summer had been inside while the fire burned, she would have been reduced to ash by now. Despite that, he still had to look for her.
Leonardo ran toward Tim. He then raised his hand and came down hard on him with his fist. The force of his punch was so great that Tim was sent flying backward. But Leonardo was not about to let him off yet. He strode up to Tim and punched him again.
