Chapter 255 You Are Feigning It

Book:CEO's Substitute Wife Published:2024-5-1

Jessica rolled her eyes. “Not unless you are crazy. If not, why would you want to push him down the stairs?”
“Exactly.” Summer nodded her agreement. Jessica was spot on. “Even you know that I could not possibly be the one pushing Grandpa Emerson. How could Leonardo suspect me?”
“What? Big Boss suspects you?” Jessica was struck dumb.
Summer briefly explained to her what had happened yesterday. Before she could finish, Carl chimed in, “Someone set you up?”
Summer took a deep breath, her voice low. “I have the same thought too, but I can’t figure out why Leonardo doesn’t believe me.”
Carl was silent.
Jessica said, “Maybe he has his own reason?”
“I don’t know.” Summer shook her head.

Jessica and Carl left after staying for a while. She could come to the Emerson’s old house with the help of Carl’s big name. The fact that they came discreetly, they could not stay for too long.
As soon as they left, Leonardo returned. Summer felt glad to see him. However, her joy was short-lived as a police officer was right behind him.
She turned to look at Leonardo, who did not look back at her but told the police officer, “You can start now.”
With Leonardo’s permission, the police came up to Summer. “Mrs. Emerson, I am here to take your statement regarding Mr. Emerson Sr.’s case.”
“Okay.” Summer cooperated with the police officer.
“Name, age?”
“Summer. Twenty-three.” Just right after New Year, she became twenty-three this year.
“Yesterday 11. 20 a. m., when Charlie fell down the stairs, where were you?”
“I was at the scene, on the upper floor landing.”
“What were you doing there?”
“A maid informed me that Grandpa was looking for me.”
“What is the name of the maid?”
“I don’t know.”
After asking a round of questions, the police officer repeated the same questions again. She did not know who the maid was. She did not have any an alibi or a witness who could prove that she was innocent.
The police officer stood up and said politely, “Thank you for your cooperation, Mrs. Emerson.”
She nodded and said nothing. After the police officer left, there were only Summer and Leonardo in the room. Since the Grandpa Emerson incident, Leonardo spent most of the time in the hospital. Other than last night’s argument, they had never sat down and talked.
“Did you speak the truth just now?” Leonardo suddenly spoke.
“What do you think? Did I lie?”
She chuckled and stood up, walking up to him and staring at him in the eyes. “Couldn’t you tell whether I was lying?”
“People can fake it, and I am not God. Sometimes, I can miss things.”
Her expression changed, but it was just for a fleeting second. She smiled again. “But I can tell you are lying.”
“What are you talking about, Summer?” While speaking, he took a step back, trying to keep a distance from her.
However, Summer would not give Leonardo the chance. She reached out and pushed him onto the sofa. He glanced at her gloomily and tried to get up, but she seemed to know what he was going to do. Pressing her hands on his shoulders, she forced him to sit back down, then lifted her leg and straddled him. They were face-to-face.
Leonardo’s expression got even grimmer, warning her with his low voice. “Get down, Summer!”
“No.” Not only did Summer not get down as told, but she also wrapped her arms around his neck, tilting her head as she looked at him, her pretty face unruly.
During her high school years, she and Jessica had gotten into countless gang fights. To some extent, she was born wild and intractable. It was only after she met Leonardo, her nemesis, that she became a sheep in front of him.
Leonardo furrowed his brows as if he was running out of patience.
Summer let out a bright smile as she came down to his lips like she was going to kiss him. “Push me down if you dare. Only by pushing me down will I believe that you don’t trust me. Otherwise…” She paused for a while, nibbling his lip before she continued with a soft low voice, “You are feigning it. You are keeping things from me.”
As Leonardo’s expression froze for a fleeting moment, Summer appeared elated.
“Enough.” But the next second, Leonardo’s expression became impassive again.
She pursed her lips and did not say a word again, but her slender arms still curled around him, looking stubborn.
His hands were on both sides of him as he narrowed his eyes, looking at her. “If you were not pregnant now, do you think you could still sit here?”
Summer bit her lip and spoke obstinately. “Yeah, why not?”
As soon as her voice trailed off, she sensed Leonardo’s body shuddering. As she was sitting on his lap, she was sure it was not an illusion. She was surprised. But before she could say anything, she felt a sharp pain on the back of her neck, and her vision dimmed. As she passed out, the last thing she saw was Leonardo’s black eyes that surged with some complicated emotions.
As Summer dropped, he supported her head with his hand and let her rest in his arms. Hugging her with one hand and holding her head with the other, he sat there unmoved for a long while.
He then called toward the door, “Tim.”
Tim came in.
“Get the car. I will send Summer back home.”
“Aye.”
Tim turned around and headed back out. He could not help but look back as he reached the door. A handsome man, sitting on the sofa, was hugging a woman in his arms, looking intimate. The woman had passed out, and the man looked down, fingers stroking her hair gently and carefully.
No matter how he looked at it, it was still a beautiful picture of love. He shook his head. Judging by how the young master treated Summer, it was impossible that the young master suspected her.
Nevertheless, Tim could not figure out what was on the young master’s mind. He had been following Leonardo all these years and knew how forbearing and strong he was. Leonardo knew what was the right thing to do and what not to do. He was always level-headed.
Yet, in this particular case, Tim did not know what Leonardo was thinking.
