Chapter 236 Prettier in Real Life Than in the Photograph

For a moment, Summer did not get what he meant.
Leonardo’s aunt? She got confused before it hit her in the head that Leonardo’s aunt was Adams’s mother.
She had never met Leonardo’s aunt, and Leonardo had never told her about his aunt.
Judging from his relationship with Adams, though, Leonardo was close to his aunt too.
Leonardo said nothing more, but she knew that he was feeling blue judging from the tone of his voice.
Even though his relationship with Adams had come to an end, and he could not face his aunt, it should not be the reason for his emotional disturbance.
Summer looked him in the eye and softly asked, “Is there any problem with her coming back?”
She did not know what Alexander had told Leonardo previously.
Leonardo gazed at her for two seconds and reached out to draw her bangs to the side. His expression and voice had now returned to normal.
“There’s no problem. I may have to go back to the old house tomorrow.”
Summer once said that she wanted to help, but this was something heavy, and he did not want her to worry about it.
He wanted her to be happy and problem-free. She knew nothing about the kidnapping that happened in the past, and as time went by, Leonardo could not bring himself to let her know too much about it.
Summer had completed all the preparations for going back to the old house. She nodded and Leonardo was surprised. It was not until the next morning when Summer took out the luggage that he realized Summer had been preparing to visit the Emerson family.
“No luggage needed. We’ll just go for lunch.” He chuckled and put her luggage away.
“New Year is just around the corner. Don’t you want to go home?”
Summer looked at the luggage and still wanted to reach for it, but Leonardo quickly stopped her.
“It’s been many years since I’ve gone back there for New Year. This year won’t be any different.”
Just when Summer tried to say something, he cut her off. “It’s all right. Let’s move. Don’t worry about this petty thing.”
So, going home for New Year was something petty to him?

They arrived at the old residence, and just like the last time, a group of maids and bodyguards welcomed them.
But this time, it was of a smaller size.
Summer had experienced it once, so she was not that surprised anymore. Perhaps the number of maids and bodyguards at home had also grown, hence she had gotten used to it.
Pondering about it, she started to feel that Leonardo had been very generous with her.
People said that the world of the super-rich was like the Forbidden City—it was hard to get in, but once you were in, you would not be able to get out. Yet, she had never found it to be that way. Perhaps Leonardo’s temper had gotten better lately and he was giving in to her will.
The maids and bodyguards greeted them as they went inside. As they entered the living room, Summer heard the emotional voice of a woman before she saw anyone.
“Leonardo.”
Summer looked in the direction of the voice and saw a middle-aged woman dressed in a maroon overcoat. She was coming toward them.
The woman had no makeup on her face, while her jewelry was kept to a bare minimum, looking simple yet elegant.
As she approached Leonardo, she reached out to hold his hands. Summer now knew that the woman had to be Leonardo’s aunt, Violet.
While Leonardo greeted her, there was no expression on his face, and he put his hand around Summer and took half a step back, subtly avoiding his aunt’s hand. Violet was visibly stunned, her hand reaching out halfway. The atmosphere just felt a little awkward now.
Summer turned to look at Leonardo, but he did not look at her. He patted her on the shoulder lightly, telling her not to worry.
“It’s been two years since we last met.” Violet’s expression returned to normal as she looked at Leonardo with a gentle expression on her face. “I heard that Douglas sneaked back into the country and you took care of him. Sorry for all the trouble, and thank you.”
Leonardo nodded in acknowledgment, still expressionless.
This man nodded? “Leonardo, you mean I was a nuisance to you? I have never troubled you!” Douglas’s voice was suddenly heard behind them.
Summer looked back in surprise. Douglas was wearing a blue down jacket and walking in her direction.
“Douglas!” Summer had not seen Douglas for quite a while, so she naturally missed him.
Douglas saw her and grinned from ear to ear as he ran toward her. “Summer!”
“It seems you’ve grown taller again.” Summer moved her hand between her head and his.
“Really? I feel that too, but my brother…” He suddenly paused, becoming a little hesitant. “They said that I didn’t get taller.”
Summer knew why Douglas became hesitant when he mentioned his brother.
He must have known things about Adams and Leonardo.
She smiled at Douglas and patted him on the head. He scratched his head in embarrassment.
“I heard that you’re pregnant.” He then sized her up. “But you don’t look like you are.”
“It’s just been two months. The baby’s still tiny.” Summer could not help playfully knocking him on the head.
“You must be Summer.”
Violet chimed in, and Summer as well as Douglas turned to look at her. She realized that while she was talking with Douglas, Leonardo and Violet did not talk to each other.
Leonardo pulled Summer back to his side and gave a perfunctory intro, “This is Summer, my wife.”
He then looked at Summer. “This is my aunt.”
Summer greeted Violet, “Auntie, I’m Summer.”
“You’re very pretty.” Violet’s smile was very gentle. She then added, “Prettier in real life than in the photograph.”
“Photograph?” Summer was puzzled.
“I took a photo of you and sent it to Mom.” Douglas moved beside Violet and wrapped his arm around her. “I told you so. Summer is much prettier in person.”
Summer’s mouth twitched, and she wore an embarrassed smile.
Just then, Michael returned. “Why don’t we all go inside and take a seat?”
Now, Summer was in a pickle. The relationship between Leonardo and Michael was a little tense. Should she greet Michael? But Leonardo did not give her the time to think. With his arm still around her, he brought her in.
As soon as Summer sat down, Douglas went up to her and threw a ton of curious questions at her. No one mentioned Adams.
Right then, Adams and Alisa came in.
