Spencer glanced pretentiously at Summer, then muttered to Lynn, “There would be such a big difference even if she has grown up. Don’t’ you think it’s ridiculous?” He howled with laughter.
“Didn’t you say that my mom has been missing for a few days? I’m here to find out what has happened.” Summer was completely disappointed with Karen, but she still could not bring herself to not care about her.
“There is nothing to talk about. She is just missing.” Due to Vicky, Lynn was upset at seeing Summer.
Summer had expected Lynn’s response. “I have informed the police about it. They will probably let you know if there is any news.”
Summer glanced at Spencer and then got back into her car.
Only then was Spencer convinced that the beautiful woman was Summer because he had heard her conversation with Lynn.
Meanwhile, Lynn hissed when he heard what Summer said. Noticing that Spencer was still staring at Summer, he barked, “What the hell are you staring at? Get inside! Don’t always go racing with your bunch of terrible friends. You—”
Annoyed by Lynn’s nagging, Spencer ran toward Summer. “Summer, what’s the hurry? How about we go for lunch?”
Lynn’s eyes were wide open as he roared, “Tim, get back here!”
Spencer did not care if Lynn was angry. He just put up his hand. “I haven’t seen Summer for many years. I’ll just have dinner with her. Go back inside, dad. Don’t get so angry, you’re not young anymore.”
Summer was inside the car. She had rolled down the window and also heard what Spencer said. Of all the Mu family members, Spencer was the only person who was good to Summer. He was set to be the heir to Jarrett Group, and because of that, he was the most loved in the family. Even the maids had more respect for him.
When Spencer was little, he was naughty and mischievous. During his high school days, he started to join his mates in street racing, drinking, and messing around. He was playful, constantly fiddling around but not evil-hearted. At least, whenever he saw Summer being bullied by her classmates on his way home, he would help her. That was why Summer had been missing him until today.
He was four years younger than Summer. When she attended secondary school, Spencer was sent abroad. Lynn had gone postal many times because of his mischief. All this son of his knew was to eat, drink, and play. He wondered whose gene his son had inherited. Lynn had no control over his son.
Summer watched as Lynn went back inside the mansion. She then heard Spencer speak to her. “Find a place, and I’ll buy you lunch.”
“Be my guest.” Summer looked over at him with a smile.
Spencer was transfixed by her smile. He only snapped out of his daze after a few seconds. “Okay, you lead and I’ll follow you.”
Summer had seen how fast Spencer drove and quickly said, “You lead. We’re going to the Golden Cauldron.” His driving had frightened her.
…
In the Golden Cauldron, Summer and Spencer sat facing each other in the private dining room.
With a waiter standing beside Spencer, he looked at the menu and started ordering. “This, this, and this…”
Summer chortled. After staying abroad for so many years, he still had not changed a bit. He loved eating, drinking, and playing—basically, anything fun. Once the food was served, the table was filled to the brim.
“I heard you took Vicky’s place and married into the Emerson family. How is the guy, Leonardo? Can you get along with him?” Spencer sounded like a long-lost friend of hers. She sighed, not telling him everything.
“You’ve come back because of Vicky.”
Summer’s confidence riveted him. Putting down his chopsticks, he looked at Summer with a smile. “You were smarter than Vicky when you were little. Now, you’re even luckier than her.”
Spencer may have helped her before, but he was also Vicky’s elder brother. Summer knew that reality well.
“It’s not that I’m luckier than her. It’s just that I’m not as evil.” Her smile gradually faded. “Do you know how times she’s tried to kill me? I’m done with the Jarrett family. She and Dad have been making use of me. Now, I’ve decided not to groan and bear it. That’s all.”
Spencer took a deep breath. “What about your mom? Don’t you care about her?” Summer said nothing. Spencer continued, “Yes, you guessed right. I’m back because of Vicky. No matter how guilty she is, she is still my sister. I can’t bring myself to let something bad happen to her.”
“Are you blaming me?” Summer asked.
They looked at each other in the eye, and after a while, Summer broke into a self-deprecating smile. “To people like you, I should not be calculative with Vicky even though she has tried to kill me and my baby, right?”
“That isn’t what I mean. I just…” Spencer suddenly did not know what to say, and he could only remain silent.
“I feel a bit tired now. Excuse me, Brother. I have to go.”
Spencer looked up at her and hesitated. Summer settled the bill, then left.
Inside the car, the chauffeur asked, “Mrs. Emerson, are you going home right now?”
She thought for a while and said, “No, please send me to Emerson Corporation.”
It was lunchtime. If she went over to look for Leonardo, she might be able to have lunch with him. It did not take long before she arrived, but she did not get out of the car.
She just glanced at the entrance through the car window before she took out her mobile phone to call Leonardo.
Just then, from the corner of her eye, she saw him walking out of the building. Beside him was Michael, and behind them was a group of men and women in business suits. They were in a hurry judging by how fast they were walking.
Summer was hesitant, but she still made the call. By then, Leonardo had entered the parking lot. He was opening his car door when his mobile phone rang. Stopping what he was doing, he looked at his mobile phone and pressed “Answer”.
“Anything?” Leonardo asked.
“Are you busy?”
“Yeah.”
“Nothing, I just called to ask.”
“Then I have to go.”
The line went dead, and Summer saw Leonardo get into the car. As she saw his car pull out from the parking lot and leave, she instructed the chauffeur. “Let’s go home now.”
The chauffeur started the car and just as he drove off, a car came from the opposite direction. It was a narrow street, and the chauffeur had to slow down to let the other car pass. However, the car stopped beside theirs, and Leonardo stepped out of it.
