“Is this why you’ve called me?” Leonardo asked absentmindedly.
“Not entirely…”
“Then, what else?”
Leonardo still sounded like he was in a daze, but she could sense that something was off about him.
“Nothing…” She had wanted to tell him about Adams but thought better of it.
“Where are you? I’m coming to pick you up.” While he spoke, he picked up the car key and headed toward the door.
“Where are you going?” Seeing him leave, Carl was shocked. “You’re going to teach Adams a lesson? He’s not in the office…”
Leonardo ignored his gibber and walked straight out of the door.
Since Leonardo said he was coming for her, Summer found a restaurant nearby the teahouse and waited. Sitting by the window, she kept an eye on the outside so that she could see if he had arrived. It did not take long before Leonardo appeared. She called him on the phone, then he parked and entered the restaurant.
“Would you like to drink anything? I’ve ordered lemon tea for you, by the way.”
Lemon tea? Only women drank that. He cocked an eyebrow but said nothing. The minute he sat down, he said, “You should be in the office at this hour.” That meant Summer was there to do something or see someone.
She knew she had been exposed. Leonardo was too smart not to know what was going on, so she told him everything. After she finished, Leonardo said nothing and just stared at her with his enigmatic eyes. It was not until she started to feel uneasy that he said, “So, after you discovered that you and Adams were on the hot search, the first person you looked for was him…”
Summer could smell anger in his voice. She had a feeling that if she was not careful, the explosive inside him would detonate. She searched her mind, trying to find something to say that could calm him down. Just then, she saw from the corner of her eye, Michael and Grandpa Charlie Emerson coming out of the teahouse in tandem. They were a distance away, so she could not clearly see their expressions. However, one thing was sure; they were not in the best mood.
Summer pointed in their direction and said to Leonardo, “Look, your dad and grandpa are over there!”
He turned his head and saw Michael as well as Charlie. His eyes were fixated on them as if he was thinking of something.
“The teahouse is owned by Emerson Corporation. The Emersons always come here to have tea and talk business.”
“Oh…” Summer nodded. She wondered how many businesses and assets Emerson Corporation owned.
“With the Black Card that Grandpa gave you, you could walk into any hotel, restaurant, shop, or entertainment outlet owned by Emerson Corporation, and no one would stop you.” He was talking to Summer, but his eyes were looking out of the window.
By then, Charlie had reached his car. A bodyguard opened the door for him, and he ducked to get into the vehicle. Before he set off, he motioned Michael to come to the window, telling him something. The car finally moved out and away after that. Michael looked on as Charlie’s car drove out of sight, then he turned around and got back to his car. A father and a son just had some tea together, nothing unusual. But…
“Did you say that Elder Brother looked depressed when he came out of the teahouse?” Leonardo pulled his eyes back and looked at Summer.
She was still stunned by what Leonardo said earlier. Summer started to find that Alisa was right when she said that she would not turn from nobody to somebody. Grandpa Emerson gave her a generous gift indeed.
“Yes, he didn’t even reply to my message or answer my call.” Her expression turned solemn as she talked about Adams.
“The gossip on the hot search would not bother a gentle person like Elder Brother. Something else must have happened, and this something…”
“This something must have hit him hard.” Summer picked up where Leonardo left off. Based on the way he looked, did it not seem like something had hit him hard? “When he asked me to meet him, he still sounded normal. Something must have happened after that, but what could have happened within that short time?”
Her observation seemed impressive, but she still could not make heads or tails of it. When she looked up, she realized that Leonardo was staring at her.
“What’s wrong? Did I say something wrong?” Cupping her hands around a glass of water, she asked in puzzlement.
“You have his number and Wechat. You two seem very close.” Leonardo wore a half-smile, and he spoke softly as well as slowly, sounding a little creepy.
She rolled her eyes at him in her mind. She had been talking for so long, yet Leonardo was giving her such a reaction. Just as she was about to explain, Leonardo said, “You haven’t added me to your Wechat.”
He sounded oddly hurt.
Summer quickly took out her mobile phone. “I’m adding you to my Wechat now.” It was not that she did not add him on purpose previously. It was just that he had been communicating via SMS all this while, so she thought the young master probably did not have a Wechat account.
“No need,” Leonardo said with a distant look on his face and looked away, yet his mobile phone was on the table. Here was a man speaking with a forked tongue.
Summer took his mobile phone and added him to her Wechat. After that, she handed the mobile back to him and fawningly said, “Done.”
Leonardo shot her a glance, waiting for two seconds before taking back his mobile phone. When he saw her name on the contact list, he frowned. “What is this?”
“It’s my name, of course.”
Leonardo shot her another glance, swiping his finger across the screen. A few seconds later, he pushed his mobile phone up to her as he stared at her.
Summer peered at it and found that he had changed her contact name to “Wife”. Apparently, he was asking her to change his name in her Wechat contact to the corresponding title. She played dumb, and he just stared at her until she gave in. He looked like a stubborn kid.
“Here, it’s done!” She showed him her mobile phone.
With a satisfied expression, Leonardo got up. “Are you going back to the office? I’ll give you a ride.”
“Yeah.” She got to her feet and proceeded to take her handbag. However, Leonardo grabbed it before she could reach it.
