Who would still like an overbearing, unreasonable boss when there was a staid one?
Jessica sneaked into the corner and peered at Leonardo as well as Summer. Seconds later, she realized that she was in her own home. Why did she have to behave so sneakily? Clearing her throat, she walked over.
Leonardo stood in front of Summer, calling her name.
“Summer.”
Still tipsy, Summer heard the familiar voice. When she woke up to it, she saw Leonardo standing like a tall statue in front of her with his back to the light. His handsome face looked a little gloomy.
Grabbing a cushion in her arms, Summer started to feel a better sense of security.
“Why are you here? she asked absentmindedly with her head tilted to one side.
“To bring you to see the medic.” While he spoke, Leonardo’s eyes landed on her ankle, which had swollen into a bun.
Summer followed his eyes and looked down. She had not noticed it when chatting and drinking with Jessica earlier. Looking at it, the swell appeared a little scary.
“I can go to the medic by myself!” she said impatiently. “Why did you come to an unmarried woman’s house in the middle of the night? Have you forgotten Jessica’s a celebrity?”
Leonardo just replied with an “Mm”. She wondered why he was being this gentle now, but before she figured it out, Leonardo bent down and flung her up in his arms.
“You’re right. We have to go.” He carried her and walked toward the door as he spoke. As he walked past Jessica, he said to her very politely, “I won’t disturb you any further.”
Stunned for a second, Jessica quickly nodded. “That-That’s okay…”
“I’m not going home! I’ll go to the medics by myself! Put me down!” Summer just could not pretend that nothing had happened before and follow Leonardo home.
Yet, Leonardo ignored her protests and refused to put her down.
Jessica stood at the doorway, watching as Leonardo carried Summer into the elevator, all while Summer made her last-ditch effort to resist and yell. With her hands on the doorframe, Jessica mumbled, “An overbearing boss still looks terrific!”
…
Putting Summer in the front passenger seat, Leonardo snapped the seat belt on her before he went round to the driver’s side.
Hearing the central lock engage with a click, she glared at Leonardo. “Why did you lock the doors? Do you think I’m going to jump out of the car just because I quarreled with you?”
“I’ve never thought about that.” Leonardo looked dead ahead, his face stony. Summer hissed. Just then, he added, “But I’m worried now. What if you get mad and jump off?”
Summer could not find the words to respond. It was a miracle that people like Leonardo even had a friend.
…
Arriving at the hospital, Leonardo leaned over to the back seat. Taking a jacket, he wrapped it around Summer and carried her inside.
Summer noticed that the jacket belonged to her. When she went to the party, she had only brought a shawl. So, Leonardo actually went there to bring her jacket to her, she finally figured.
It was just about midnight, and there were fewer people in the hospital. Despite that, they still attracted a lot of attention when Leonardo carried Summer into the hospital. Feeling embarrassed, she whispered to him.
“Put me down. I can walk.”
“Okay.”
He said yes without even thinking. Summer became a little suspicious. He put her down, slowly releasing his hands and looking at her with his arms crossed.
“Let’s go,” he said.
With the pain in her leg still unbearable, getting down on the floor was a challenge, but that did not deter her. She was determined to walk. Lifting her injured leg up, she hopped along the wall to the emergency room, feeling proud of her physique.
An old lady walked past. Shooting Leonardo a glance, she said to someone beside her, “Look at men nowadays, how inconsiderate they are. I can already feel his girlfriend’s pain in her swollen leg.”
Leonardo’s face darkened, and he decided to correct the old lady. “She’s not my girlfriend. She’s my wife.”
“Oh! That’s even worse. The young lady should have divorced this man.”
The old lady looked energetic, and her voice was forceful. Summer, who had limped away far ahead, heard what the old lady said and chuckled.
The old lady smiled at Summer. “Young lady, my grandson’s working Tip Top Entertainment as part of the management. He has a nice job, even good looks. If you decide to divorce your husband, you should consider my grandson!”
The smile on Summer’s face evaporated as Leonardo went ahead.
“We won’t get a divorce!” he said. His sullen face seemingly scared the old lady. Not saying a word again, the old lady just glanced at Summer worriedly before she walked away.
Summer returned an apologetic smile, thinking about the old lady’s strange and unconventional rationale, which went against the tide.
“Had enough already? She’s gone!” Leonardo said impatiently.
…
When they came out of the medical room, it was almost 2 a. m. The winter night in Hoover City could drop below minus ten degrees. Leonardo was carrying her on the way out, and she did not resist.
Arriving home, Douglas appeared near the stairs as Leonardo carried her upstairs. His hair was messy and his eyes were groggy. Seeing Leonardo carry Summer in his arms, his eyes were wide open.
“Summer, you’re back!”
“Why haven’t you gone to bed?”
Brushing his hair with his fingers, he said, “I’m just taking a leak…” Struggling to keep his eyes open, he did not look like he had gone to bed earlier. It was so obvious.
Back in the room, Leonardo went into the bathroom and turned on the water to fill the bathtub. Lying in bed, Summer started to have a headache. The party had turned into a bad night out and she felt a little upset.
Not long after, Leonardo called out from the bathroom. “The water’s ready. Bath time.”
She hopped into the bathroom, but Leonardo had no intention of leaving. She turned to look at him, her voice impatient. “Why are you still—”
Before she could finish her sentence, his lips had landed on hers. He gripped her waist firmly, and his kisses were shamelessly fervent. Without her high heels, Summer had lost her height advantage. She was helplessly forced to tilt her head up to meet his kisses. With him pressing her against the wall, she felt the icy cold wall on her back and the flaming hotness of his body on her front; it started to drive her crazy.
She wanted to resist, but Leonardo did not give her a chance as he had started to expertly take off her clothes piece by piece.
