Having spent so many years in the entertainment industry, Jessica was no longer a doormat. But the problem was, she was plastered now; the alcohol numbing her senses. Supporting herself on Summer, she pulled herself to her feet, one leg on the table, like a female gang boss.
“We’re all friends… no one leaves… unless you all get juiced-up…”
Summer pursed her lips. Jessica had lost her mind; she did not even realize the sh*t she was about to get into.
Seeing Jessica’s condition, Laura smirked. No way she would let Jessica out of this without giving her a good beating. Jessica was only a starlet. But with her beauty and not-bad acting skill, she had gained a sizable fan base. Because of this, she did not have to trade s*x for a role in a film. Even if it was just a supporting character, with a good screenplay, one could easily get recognition and shoot to stardom. Jessica had scored a ticket to a bright future, and that was what Laura hated her for. She and Jessica made their debuts at about the same time. While it was smooth for Jessica, she had to butter up the producers and directors to get a role.
Laura turned her head around, signaling the people behind her with her eyes. “Look, Jessica is okay with that. What are you guys waiting for?”
About seven or eight men and women came in. Summer was hesitating for a while. She then sent a message to Douglas on Wechat.
“Is your cousin home?”
“No.” Douglas’s reply was quick.
It was clear that Laura was here looking for trouble. Things could end up messy very soon.
Summer went aside, making a call to Leonardo. While the phone rang, a series of thoughts came to mind. What was her relationship with Leonardo now? She had no problem accepting the fact that she was his wife when she thought he was a’cripple.’ But now, after knowing Leonardo was as fit as a fiddle, she suddenly resented her identity as his wife. Perhaps it was because he had lied to her, and the fact that she could not really know what he was thinking. He had too many secrets, was possessive and unpredictable. Her instinct told her to keep a distance from him, to avoid getting hurt. But at this moment, the only person she could think of was Leonardo.
Three rings later, the call was answered.
“Summer.”
His voice was low as usual, very calming. Just when she was about to speak, someone snatched her phone away. She looked back and saw it was Laura.
“Give me my phone!” Summer frowned. She hated it when people took things from her without her permission.
“We are here for fun. Don’t play with your phone. Don’t kill the buzz!” Laura smiled as she powered off the phone. She then tossed it to a man beside her. “This lady is a friend of Jessica’s. Make sure she has fun today.
“Don’t slight her.”
This woman was just as presumptuous as Vicky. Summer’s face darkened, forcing words through her teeth.
“Give me back my phone!”
Laura knew that Summer would call for help. No way she was going to return the phone to her. Ignoring Summer’s demand, she turned to the man behind her.
“Haven’t you all heard what I said?”
“I got you.” The man behind Laura came forward, reaching to grab Summer’s arm. “Beauty, let us have some fun.”
Summer instinctively stepped aside, dodging the man’s grab. Knowing that they were not going to return the phone, she went back toward Jessica.
Sitting on the left of Jessica was a woman. On her right was a man, looking like a gigolo, cleanly shaved but very much disgusting to her eyes. He was resting his hand on the backrest behind Jessica, seemingly trying to wrap it around Jessica. Summer sneered when the thought of Carl came to mind. He might not be the best man in the world, but at least he was gentleman enough to instruct the security personnel to not hurt Jessica while stopping her. He was so much better than Mr. Gigolo.
Sensing the stare from Summer, Mr. Gigolo returned with an enchanting smile-at least he thought it was, and raised his glasses at her.
Summer went up and pushed him away. “Get out of my way.”
Not seeing it coming, Mr. Gigolo lost his balance and tumbled to the floor.
With a not-so-sincere voice, Summer apologized. “Oh, I’m sorry, you look like you have a good body. I didn’t know you are this frail.”
Mr. Gigolo gritted his teeth, hissed, and got back up to his feet. He then smashed the glass onto the floor, pointing at Summer and shouting, “Who do you think you are, b*tch?!”
No one knew who Summer was-at least that was the case in the entertainment world. They all thought she was just another outsider, nobody.
“Who do you think you are?” Jessica jumped to her feet but lost her balance. She would have fallen to the floor if not for Summer holding her. Just then, Mr. Gigolo splashed his glass of wine at Jessica, who had no intention of dodging or whatsoever. In that split second, Summer turned her back to him in front of Jessica with all the cold wine splattering on her back. As she was wearing a thick overcoat, the wine did not manage to soak through the material.
Laura took everything, clapping her hands. “What a pair of sister-in-arms!”
With Summer keeping her behind, Jessica was soberer now. She got up from the couch and looked at Laura.
“Do you think I stole the role away from you? Let me tell you, the director has never wanted to give the role to you. My manager has struck a deal with him long beforehand!”
“Bullsh*t!”
Everything Jessica said was just an excuse in the eyes of Laura. Coming up to Jessica, Laura raised her hand at her but was stopped by Summer.
“Get out of my way! This is between Jessica and me!”
“This is my room. You, get the hell out of here!” Jessica raised her hand and gave Laura the good news on her face.
Summer realized things had gotten out of control. Laura covered cupped her cheek with her hand, shouting as she lunged at Jessica again. ‘World War III’ broke out; Summer wanted to help Jessica. Just then the hand of a man caressed her on her arm.
“This is between Laura and Jessica. You’d better stay away. Let us have some fun instead.”
Summer let out a smile. Her beautiful eyes were mesmerizing.
The man instantly got hooked and fell into a daze. She saw the opportunity, grabbing an empty bottle from the table and smashing it on the man’s skull.
The bottle was broken in half, so too the man’s head-just nearly. Blood started to ooze down his head. But Summer could not have cared less about him. She needed to help Jessica.
Going up to them, she grabbed Laura’s hair and dragged her away from Jessica, pointing the broken bottle at Laura’s face. “Get the hell out of here if you don’t fancy a cut on your face!”
