Chapter 111 At the Top of the Food Chain

Book:CEO's Substitute Wife Published:2024-5-1

As usual, Leonardo was in a designer suit. His face was stern, and his eyes piercing cold. He said nothing, but Summer could sense his imposing presence.
Thinking of what she had done to him in the Golden Cauldron the night before, she took half a pace back involuntarily. She grabbed the young Douglas by his sleeve and asked in a whisper, “Is there a backdoor in the Internet cafe?”
The young Douglas thought she was afraid of Leonardo. He put on a brave face even though he was just as afraid. He could not lose face in front of a woman, so he tried to calm her down. “Don’t worry, he’s after me. He won’t do anything to you.”
Summer was on the verge of tears and laughing; should she not have been the one to say that?
The young Douglas stepped forward, standing in front of Summer and shouting, “I can go with you, but you must leave her alone!” When they were eye-to-eye, his neck shrank back. However, he quickly plucked up his courage again and continued to fearlessly stand in front of Summer.
Summer would have felt touched if Douglas knew what was going on, but Leonardo looked even grimmer now. She knew the more Douglas talked, the bleaker her fate would be. So, she ran back inside the Internet cafe and brought Douglas with her.
A few paces later, the young Douglas puzzledly asked, “Why are you running? My elder cousin may be a demon, but he would never bully women.”
A demon? The title suited him well. But never bullied women? Heck, she was not going to believe that.
“Cut the crap! Do you know where the backdoor is?” There was no time for an explanation.
“I know.”
He had seen the backdoor when he went to the toilet last night. Yet, when they exited the backdoor, a few bodyguards were already waiting there, blocking their escape route.
“What are all of you doing?” Summer frowned. She never expected Leonardo to send men to guard the rear access door.
“Let us go!” Douglas shouted angrily.
The bodyguards did not back down. “Young Master, Mrs. Emerson, we’re sorry, but we cannot let you both of you go.”
“What do you mean Mrs. Emerson?” Douglas looked at them, perplexed.
The bodyguards glanced at Summer, saying nothing. Knowing there was no escape now, Summer tapped Douglas on the shoulder and said, “I’m Leonardo’s wife, the one you said had a face only a mother could love.”
Douglas was struck dumb.

Too helpless to resist, Douglas and Summer had no choice but to go with the bodyguards. She saw the limited edition Bentley again. Next to it, Leonardo stood with his hands in the pockets of his dress pants, looking at her with no emotions on his face. His voice was still indifferent.
“Do you still want to run away?”
Summer felt a little anxious, but she did not want to give the impression that she had lost. She raised her chin and looked at him. “I’m hungry, I can’t run.”
Meanwhile, Douglas was still in his own world, shocked by the news that Summer was Leonardo’s wife.
Leonardo did not say a word again as he opened the door and shoved Summer into the car. He then glanced back at Douglas, who was still in a daze. “I will deal with you later.”
The words jolted Douglas out of his daze, and he quickly climbed on board.

Summer sat in a corner of the cabin, swiping away at her phone. She was determined to put on a devil-may-care face despite the guilt she felt. Her logic was that what she did was nothing compared with what Leonardo had done.
Just then, Leonardo broke his silence, his voice low and cold, “What do you have to say?”
“I have nothing to say.” Summer put down her phone, glancing at him. “What about you?”
“You’ve found out, haven’t you?” His voice was as calm as a pond of water. It was as if he did not feel sorry at all for all the lies he had told.
Summer wore a self-deprecating smile. “Of course, you can do whatever you like to the toy you’ve bought for three hundred million dollars.”
“Summer!” Leonardo’s brows were knitted together, and he did not sound very happy. He was unhappy with her self-deprecating tone of voice.
“Why can’t I say it when that’s what you’ve already done?” Still unfazed, Summer glared at him with eyes that reeked of haughtiness, taking a dig at him with her sharp tongue.
Leonardo squinted back at her, his voice intimidating. “Say that again!”
“I said, why can’t I say it when… Ngh…”
Without letting her finish, Leonardo covered her lips with his hot open mouth.
Jerk! Summer pushed him with her hands and kicked with her legs, but he was hugging her tightly in his arms. She was too powerless to even resist. He had been bullying and lying to her the entire time, and now he had kissed her without her consent, feeling so entitled.
He had gotten everything and taken every advantage of her. Amid the struggle, Summer bit him on the lip, and he winced in pain, his grip on her loosening.
The car just stopped in front of the mansion, and Summer pushed him away. She jumped out of the car and ran into the mansion. Leonardo got out and used his finger to check his lip; there was blood.
Tim handed him a handkerchief. He took it and wiped the blood off before he walked into the mansion. Douglas reluctantly followed suit. When Leonardo sat on the couch, he helped himself into one as well. Right then, Leonardo snapped, “Did I ask you to sit down?!”
Douglas shuddered as he got up like a timid mouse. He was afraid of nothing. His elder cousin Leonardo was the only person he feared.
Meanwhile, Summer did not go back to her room. She was hiding on the second-floor landing, peeking from behind the handrail and watching things unfold in the living room.
She saw Douglas standing stock-still in front of his elder cousin. She could not help sighing. If Leonardo were to live in the animal kingdom, he would be at the top of the food chain, the king of all beasts.
“Does your elder brother know that you’re back in the country?”
Leonardo’s aunt gave birth to Adams when she was eighteen, but it was not until she was thirty-four that she gave birth to Douglas. Unlike normal families that only had a son at that age, his aunt’s family raised Douglas like a free-range chicken. Deemed rebellious and a regular runaway, Leonardo’s aunt and her family were used to all of this. If his aunt knew that Douglas was back in the country, in Hoover City, she would have called him. They would have been worried if they knew that a fourteen-year-old was coming all the way home from abroad alone. Since his aunt had not called, she must not have known that Douglas was back. Right then, Douglas’s elder sibling, Adams was also in Hoover City.
