“Douglas” sounded serious when he said that, so Summer could not help but think the worst. She remembered nothing about the previous night. Since she had been drugged, she and he could have very well done something already.
For a moment, her mind went blank. Then, Leonardo came to mind. She could not stay in “Douglas”‘s room. What if Leonardo found out… The color was draining from her face. She whisked the quilt away to get out of bed, but Leonardo shoved her back in bed.
“You’re exhausted from last night. Now have a good rest. I’ll get you something to eat later.” All Leonardo did was press his hand on her shoulder and she was too weak to fight back.
The thought of her and “Douglas” having crossed the line of decency last night filled her with shame and anger. “You jerk!”
“Jerk? What… about this?” While he spoke, Leonardo pushed her back in bed. He leaned on her and planted his lips on hers.
It caught Summer by surprise. She froze, not knowing how to react for a moment. That gave Leonardo the opportunity to further immobilize her. He pinned her wrists down, squeezing and twisting his tongue to make a forced entry.
He was Summer’s first kiss, but unlike his previous skimming-the-surface kisses, he penetrated her defenses this time. His fresh scent was overpowering, and she was a sitting duck. When it was all over, Leonardo smacked her lips twice before he pulled himself away from her.
Summer lay on the bed with her eyes on the ceiling, her mind a muddle and her face smitten. She was panting slightly like a sheep waiting to be slaughtered.
Leonardo’s already regularized breathing quickened again as he looked at her and said in a hoarse voice, “I can be worse. Do you wanna try?”
His words jolted her out of her daze. The moment she realized it, Leonardo was above her again. She was determined to fight back this time, raising her hand to slap his face.
However, Leonardo was quicker than her, grabbing her hand midway. With the corners of his lips curled up, he put her hand to his lips and planted a kiss on it. “I like an agile woman like you, Mrs. Emerson.”
There is no limit to how low this shameless man can go! She thought as she tried to pull her hand away but failed. Glaring back at him angrily, she snorted. “I’m your cousin’s wife!”
As if Leonardo did not hear the anger in her voice, he smiled. “My cousin’s gone abroad, and he won’t be coming back for another two weeks. During this period, no one will disturb us. Isn’t it exciting?”
Exciting my foot! She would not ingratiate herself with her shameless cousin-in-law.
Seeing her face change, Leonardo decided to stop teasing her. He got to his feet, and his smile faded from his face as he asked, “What do you like? I’ll ask my men to make you something to eat.”
“I’m not eating anything,” Summer answered, her voice cold. She just wanted to get out of there-as soon as possible.
Ignoring her negative reply, Leonardo said, “Let’s get some porridge and light dishes.”
After Leonardo left, Summer jumped out of bed and entered the bathroom. She wanted to confirm if she and “Douglas” really had sex last night.
Sore limbs did not tell her anything, but she did not feel any discomfort in her private part.
On the other hand, “Douglas” could have been anything but good. Nevertheless, she had a weird belief that he was a person who would not take advantage of her.
Locking herself in the bathroom, she carefully examined her body. No marks, no pain. Nothing unusual. She even jumped twice, looking for telltale signs but feeling nothing.
She then knew that “Douglas” was a liar. How childish a man like him was to prank her like that.
Letting out a sigh of relief, Summer wanted to give her face a wash. She walked up to the mirror and froze. Someone had removed her makeup.
Too many things had probably happened the night before; she looked tired and frail. She was young, though, and the little mishap did not make her uglier but evoke a sense of sympathy. Instead of feeling relieved, Summer began to have butterflies in her stomach.
…
Half an hour later, Leonardo came for her. Lunch was ready, but she was not in her bed. He stood at the doorway for a while, then turned around. There she was; Summer was standing right behind him, her face emotionless as she asked, “Why can’t I open my room door?”
She had gone back to her room but found it was locked from the inside. She tried everything she could but the door just would not budge.
“The lock malfunctions,” Leonardo replied, his voice sounding matter of fact. It was hard to tell if he was lying. Summer looked at him with suspicion. She remembered that the lock on the door worked just fine when she went out last night.
Noticing her calm expression, Leonardo guessed that she knew nothing happened between them the previous night.
“Let’s have lunch.” After he said that, he went downstairs at once.
She had lost her appetite earlier when she thought that she and “Douglas” had slept together the night before. After learning the truth, her stomach was now protesting loudly.
In the dining hall, Summer and Leonardo sat opposite each other while the bodyguard served the food on the table.
She had been wondering for a while why there were only bodyguards but no maids in the mansion. Were maids not more suitable for doing the cooking stuff and similar chores? Summer wanted to sound him out. “Does your cousin dislike women?”
Leonardo halfway through stirring his porridge, and he paused. Did he behave like a woman-hater so obviously? He put down his spoon and looked up at Summer. “Why do you say so?”
Likewise, Summer put down her spoon. “He doesn’t want to see me, and there’s no maid here in the mansion.”
Leonardo smiled but said nothing.
Summer had a feeling that she had forgotten something. She reached out to scratch her head before she straightened up. “Is Jessica alright?”
Then she remembered that Leonardo may not know Jessica even though he had seen her before, so she explained, “She’s my friend, the one lady who came to see me in the mansion that day. She and Carl Jones know each other.”
Recalling last night’s incident, Leonardo’s face changed slightly. “She’s fine.” Had he not gone to look for her, she would not have escaped the Violet Gold Club last night. Why does she still have the mood to show concern for others?
Still not convinced, Summer reached for her phone. Then she remembered that she dropped it when she jumped out of the building the night before. It had probably shattered into pieces.
Leonardo noticed that. He took a box out from behind him and pushed it in front of her.
“What’s this?” Summer asked curiously, but he said nothing. He just motioned with his eyes for her to see it for herself. She opened it, and it was a branded smart phone, the latest model for ladies.
