Chapter 33 Your Boyfriend’s Worried About You

Book:CEO's Substitute Wife Published:2024-5-1

Summer reflexively wrapped her hands around his neck. Her mind went blank for a few seconds before she came to her senses, and she struggled to get down. “Douglas, let me go!”
Ignoring her struggles, Leonardo hooped his arms around her body and shoved her into the front passenger seat.
Summer was thinking about getting away as soon as her butt hit the upholstery, but Leonardo could read her mind. With one hand on the door and the other on the A-pillar, he looked at her with a half-smile. “If you dare get out of the car, I’ll kiss you.”
She pressed her lips together before she forcefully spoke through gritted teeth, “Jerk!”
Leonardo closed the door, went around, and hopped into the driver’s seat.
Summer turned her head the other way, never looking at him as it would irritate her just to see him.
Leonardo did not look at her either. He just stared straight ahead, and his voice was flat when he said, “You haven’t answered my question.”
His question stunned her for a second before she realized what he was talking about.
Morose, Summer glared at him. “I think you’re the one who’s bumping porcelain here?”
Leonardo shot her a glance, smirking. “Your husband’s the most promising man in Hoover City. Who am I to make you a target of porcelain bumping?”
It sounded like a ridicule with a sense of honor. Nevertheless, Summer still found “Douglas” extremely weird.
She studied “Douglas” carefully, and aside from being a stuffed shirt, there seemed to be nothing unusual about the man.
Since “Douglas” had seen the press conference, that meant Leonardo would have seen it too, right? When the thought crossed her mind, she became a little uneasy.
The Emerson family’s attitude had been very clear since the beginning. After they quashed the online gossip about Leonardo, they remained in the background. That meant they would not get involved in the squabble between Summer and her family as long as Leonardo was not dragged along.
The reporters had thrown questions about Leonardo, and some of them were nasty. Would Leonardo be unhappy with the way she responded to them?
Summer organized her thoughts and decided to sound him out. “Your cousin… did he watch the press conference?”
Sensing the hesitation in her, Leonardo glanced over. “He did.”
“Then, he…”
“He was pissed off,” Leonardo said matter-of-factly.
Summer’s heart skipped a beat. She grew even more uneasy.
Looking out of the window and realizing that they were not on their way home, she cautiously asked, “Where are we going? Send me back to the mansion!”
As if he did not hear her, Leonardo stopped in front of a clinic. He got out, went around to the other side, and opened the front passenger door. “Can you get yourself out? If not… I’ll carry you.”
Summer flew out of the car. Seeing him walk into the clinic, she became curious. “Are you buying medication?”
The man who was walking in front ignored her and went inside. Summer followed, and as soon as she was inside, she heard him telling the doctor, “She fell and injured her leg. Take a look at her.”
Summer was stunned. “Douglas” brought her to the clinic just because she injured her leg.
Hearing what Leonardo had said, the doctor looked at Summer and gently said, “Please, come in, let me look at your condition.”
“My legs are alright. I’m fine…” Summer involuntarily looked at “Douglas” while she spoke.
He was expressionless, and his eyes looked even more piercing when he was silent. Unlike a spoiled brat, he had the persona of a king.
It really frightened her when “Douglas” was like that.
The doctor looked at Summer, then at Leonardo, saying, “Your boyfriend’s worried about you, so let me take a look.”
“We aren’t what you think!” Summer corrected the doctor.
Leonardo smirked and appeared noncommittal, pointing at the female doctor not far away. “Let the female doctor attend to her.”
The doctor smiled heedfully and called the female doctor over.
When the female doctor saw Leonardo, she blushed. Very gently, she rolled up Summer’s pant leg and examined her knee.
Her leg was unblemished, and her skin was fair. Even the female doctor could not help but admire her. “You’ve got beautiful legs.”
Realizing that “Douglas” was standing there, Summer felt uneasy and rolled the pant leg back down.
Her knee had reddened and become a little swollen, but it was not a big deal for her. Why did “Douglas” have to make a mountain out of a molehill? She turned her head, and her eyes inadvertently met his.
He then peered at her leg. “You’re pretty tough.”
He had seen her fall, and she could not get up for a while, so he thought her legs had to be badly hurt.
It was rare for him to not be sardonic, and this time, she did not sense that in his tone of voice. Instead, it sounded as if he was sighing.

Summer’s leg was fine, but the doctor still prescribed her an antiseptic.
Exiting the clinic, Leonardo headed straight to the car. He opened the door and looked back, but Summer was still standing outside the clinic.
He squinted at her. “Do your legs hurt? You need me to carry you?”
Despite being ill-tempered herself, Summer had never seen someone as shameless and irritating as “Douglas”.
She drew her face together and said, “Thank you for that. You can go now if you’re busy. I can call a cab.”
Leonardo looked at her as if he enjoyed seeing her fight back her annoyance. He leaned against the car, his voice apathetic. “I’m not busy, just having lunch with friends. Come with me.”
Summer turned around and left at once. She knew that this man was not going to listen. She also had no clue why he kept bugging her. Did he have a quirk of liking someone ugly like her?
Before she could take more than a few steps, the voice of “Douglas” was heard. He was on the phone.
“I’m outside now. Hmm, just bumped into your wife and we’re going for lunch together. I’ll send her back after this. I think you wouldn’t mind, would you? My relationship with her… Well, we see each other every day… We…”
Summer stopped dead in her tracks. When she looked back, “Douglas” was half smiling at her. She could see that he was threatening her.
She had absolutely no doubt that if she took another step, he would say things like “your wife seduces me” and other stuff along those lines. She clenched her fists and buckled, walking back to him.
“Mrs. Emerson, you may want to get inside the car first. I’m not done with my cousin yet.” He looked pleased as Summer got in. He then looked at his phone; it was locked, there was no call.
