Unexpectedly
It’s time. Lucas has finally called her after five days of waiting. Those five days seemed like so much torture, but she had to hold it all in. She had to let him recover, she had to let him prepare himself for when they would see each other again, and now, the time has finally come. Nervousness overshadowed Ava then, but she wasn’t going to let that stop her.
“Thank you. I’ll go to him now,” she told Kiron, who had come into her room to call her.
Kiron bowed in response, “I wish you the very best, Ava, and I do hope that your union with my master shall be restored today.”
“I hope so too,” she hummed.
After Kiron left, she got up from where she was sitting and put on her slippers, dragging her feet slowly to the door.
‘You can do this Ava. You can do this,’ she heard Layla’s voice.
‘Yes… I can do this. I hope I can do this.’
Not long after, she was standing right in front of his door. It took some time and courage for her to do so much as knock, and even as she did, her little hands trembled.
Knock-knock-knock.
Her scent. She’s here, he already knows this, and she already knows that he’s standing right behind the door, waiting for her.
“Come in.”
The door opened slowly, and then Ava walked in. She looked so… so beautiful, he’s missed her, and since the time they’ve been separated, he’s only had the privilege of meeting her in his dreams, but now, she’s back here, finally.
Ava wondered what it was that was going on in his mind, he didn’t say anything when he saw her. Should she say something? What should she say?
‘How about a greeting?’
“H-hi… Lucas…”
“I banished you, Ava. I made it clear that I would kill you if you returned. Why did you come back?”
Ava didn’t expect this. Should she pinch herself? Was she hearing things?? Why did he sound… so cold? So different?
“Lucas…”
“You’ve not answered my question, Ava.”
“I came back, because I love you. I came back because I found out who Sabrina truly is, what she wanted to do to you… I couldn’t let that happen, no matter what… even if… even if it meant I would lose my life, I just had to do something to save you.”
He looked away from her sad eyes, “the fact that you came back here to save me does not erase the crimes of your past, Ava Maynard.”
She couldn’t stop the tears from stinging her cheeks, “Lucas… why are you talking like this? I made a mistake… just once… just once…”
“You could have resisted the enchantment, Ava. Sabrina’s powers meant nothing compared to the love we shared. I resisted them once, it was hard, but you should have been able to. Things wouldn’t have gone this far if you hadn’t left, so don’t act like you did anyone a favor by coming back to sort out the mess that you created.”
Taken aback, but still, “Lucas… I’m sorry. How many times do you want me to say it? I. AM. SORRY, Lucas De’ Clan. I swear on my life that I will never do anything like that to hurt you again.” She begged, “please… just don’t push me away again… you don’t know how much it hurts… to see you push me so far away… like we never had anything… like I don’t matter.”
His next words cut her soul like a knife.
“I’m sorry, but your banishment still stands. I was supposed to kill you if you return here, but for the first time ever, because of what you did, I will go against my own decree and let you go free as a reward for saving my life, but that is all there is. I will not lift your banishment.”
“Why don’t you just kill me instead? It will be much better than having to leave here the way I did the last time.” She bent her head, in a sign of surrender. “Just kill me instead, Lucas De’ Clan.”
“Ava… please leave here now. I wouldn’t want to have the guards drag you out of here, and I know you wouldn’t want that either.”
She let out a dry laugh, “there’s much more to care about, Lucas… so you’re just going to send us away…? You might push me away as many times as you want, but are you going to push your child too?”
He creased his brow, trying hard to understand her words, “us…? What are you talking about?”
Through tears, she told him, “You didn’t know that I’m pregnant, Lucas. I’m carrying your child!”
.
.
.
A little silence…
He began to struggle to speak, as the question came out huskily, “when… when did this happen?”
Sniffs, “I found out… not long after I was banished. The child is yours, Lucas. I swear on my life that I would never do anything to hurt you or our baby. Please, don’t send us away,” she tried ambling closer, but then his words stopped her.
“Get out, Ava.”
She was shocked, this is not how she expected things to go, or did he not hear what she had just told him? Did his child not matter to him?
“Lucas…” she came closer, tried reaching to touch him, but then he pushed her, walking back into his inner chambers as he turned his back on his crying mate.
“Get out, Ava. I won’t repeat myself again,” he then left, slamming the door shut behind him.
