Poor refugee
‘Erasmus! Where are you going???’ Layla yelled, calling behind him, but Erasmus didn’t pay attention to her calls, all his mind was focused on the screaming noises he was hearing in the distance, a wolf was in trouble nearby, and given his nature and position, he was not one to ignore a call for help.
When Erasmus got to the scene, it was just as he’d suspected, two heavily bodied rogues were harassing a poor she wolf, the wolf had a collar strapped around her neck, and a rope was attached to the collar which one of the rogues yanked to pull her towards him, forcing her into a metal cage, the poor wolf screamed as she tried to break free, but the two rogues overpowered her.
“Get in the cage, you stupid wolf!” The one who held the rope yelled.
The other rogue, upon noticing her stubbornness, let out a whip from his belt of weapons, and began lashing at the poor creature, landing marks all over her body, she whimpered, screaming, and she was about to give in before Erasmus arrived.
The two rogues spotted the raging wolf before, “What the…?”
In one move, he lunged violently at the rogue who was dragging the wolf to her cage, the other rogue tried using the whip on Erasmus, but he was too fast, biting at his ears as soon as he caught him off guard, the little wolf who had now been released ran towards the trees on the other side, where Layla was just arriving.
‘Are you ok?’ Layla asked her, but the wolf didn’t answer, only eyed her instead, ignoring her to seek solace under a tree.
Soon after, Erasmus fought off the two rogues and sent them running with their tails between their legs, he was slightly injured on his neck, but if it were to save this innocent soul in the process, then every pain was worth it for him.
Erasmus returned to where Layla and the refugee were standing, and then the three wolves took their human forms so they all could have a proper introduction.
The defenseless creature transformed into a young beautiful blonde woman, she had scars all over her body, certainly the handwork of the rogues who attacked her, but even with the scars, Lucas had never come across such beauty before, it was almost as if she had him bewitched, because in his eyes, she now looked even more beautiful than Ava was, but there was something strange about her he just couldn’t place. He shook his head, the fact that he’d never seen her anywhere before then made him brush his suspicions aside, it might have been just a random thought.
“Are you ok…?” Ava tried reaching for her to comfort her a bit, thinking maybe her human side would appeal more to her, but the young girl only screamed, crying as she did.
“Don’t touch me!!!” She shouted at her and her angry words sent Ava backing off immediately.
“It’s ok, we wont bite,” Lucas said to her with reassuring eyes before turning to Ava. “Don’t worry. Let me try.”
“Ok,” Ava nodded, giving him the go ahead.
Surprisingly, as Lucas came closer to her, she didn’t move away, flinch, nor scream like she did to Ava, she seemed to welcome the touch of Lucas more than she did with Ava.
Lucas held her hand, patting her softly, and suddenly, the girl burst into a fresh wave of tears, she stammered a lot as she spoke through her innocent eyes.
“T-t-those evil men, t-t-they t-took m-m-my pack, they t-t-took my home…. And now, I a-am the only one left,” she sobbed.
Lucas brought a hand to her eye to wipe her tears, “Its ok, you don’t have to cry anymore, you’re safe now, and I promise, those men will never hurt you again.”
The girl only answered by letting out more tears, Lucas then took her into his arms and laid her head on his chest, patting her hair softly and comforting her until her crying subsided. Ava could do nothing but stand aside and watch, feeling nothing but pity for this young girl.
When she could finally speak, she told Lucas of her former home, the Navii pack, of course he’d heard of the rogues attack on the pack just recently, and he’d heard that only a few had managed to escape, this girl must have probably been one of the few who escaped narrowly with her life, but the fact that she’d escaped didn’t help the fact that she was now all alone, she’d lost everything, her home; her family, possibly her mate if he were meant to be from the Navii pack, at this point it was left to him to make sure that this girl does not bear this loss alone, he would sympathize with her and take her to the dawn pack where she would meet different wolves who had a similar story just like hers, he knew she’d feel at home there, the dawners would welcome her with wide open arms and she wouldn’t have to feel alone anymore.
“We’ll be taking you home now,” Lucas said. “You’ll be safe in the dawn sanctuary and I assure you that no harm will come to you there.”
“What is your name?” Ava asked her, but her question was only met with a spiteful growl, Ava realized then that this girl didn’t just seem to like her for no reason in particular.
“It’s ok,” Lucas patted her once more, and the angry scowl on her face disappeared as soon as Lucas touched her, why was she acting so hostile towards her but welcoming towards her mate? Ava wondered.
“You can tell us,” Lucas continued. “You’re one of us now, you don’t have to be scared of letting us know anything about yourself, now tell me, what is your name?” He repeated the question.
The girl looked up at him, blinking through eyes that showed nothing short of innocence, then she told him her name.
“Sabrina.”
