“Ji Yan.” Li Wenjing waved to Ji Yan and shook the bag in her hand. “I brought you breakfast.”
Ji Yan smiled and took over the breakfast, then said, “Thanks. It seems that you’ve been living quite comfortably these few days.” She was referring to Li Wenjing and Shao Kai’s trip together.
Li Wenjing was not embarrassed when Ji Yan made fun of her. She blinked her eyes and said without a hint of shyness, “It’s not bad. What about you? How’s it going with your husband?”
The corner of Ji Yan’s mouth twitched when she heard Shang Jinshen’s name. “There’s no love between us, only repulsion.”
At this moment, Li Wenjing came up to them and joined in with the gossiping. “Could it be that you’re really living in a love story between a master and his maid?”
Ji Yan smiled and pushed the former away. “You think too much,” she said, then took the breakfast and quickly ran back to her office, in case Li Wenjing kept asking more questions.
Li Wenjing’s face grew red with anger. ‘Hmph! Ji Yan sure loves to leave me hanging!’
Later, when Ji Yan walked into the office, she noticed a bouquet of fresh roses on her table. She stared at them in confusion. Why would there be roses? Was this a gift for her? She thought.
Setting down her breakfast, she stretched out her hand and picked up the card on the flowers. Her face suddenly blanched after reading the message.
Shang Yu An! What was wrong with this man? Why did he send her roses? Ji Yan picked up the roses in disgust, planning to chuck them into the trash can outside.
No matter how beautiful the roses were, she felt sick seeing Shang Yu An’s name on them.
“Miss Ji, you have such good luck. Someone has sent you roses early in the morning. I’m so envious.” A colleague teased Ji Yan with a smile, but her true intentions were unclear.
Li Wenjing came over with a glass of water and an ambiguous look on her face. “Hey, hey! Did your husband send it to you?”
Ji Yan responded with a smile but did not explain anything. Then, she took the roses casually and walked out.
“Ji Yan,” a piercing female voice suddenly rang from the office entrance.
Ji Yan frowned and turned around only to see a well-dressed woman standing at the door. It was Ji Gui. ‘Why is she here?’ she thought.
Before she could react, Ji Gui angrily strode over while glaring at her. Her beautiful face was full of disdain.
“Ji Yan, you’re married, yet you still have inappropriate thoughts about your brother-in-law. Don’t you think that’s too much?” Ji Gui’s words exploded in the room like a clap of thunder.
Upon hearing this, Ji Yan sensed the air surrounding her grow cold. She looked at Ji Gui with a cold face and said impatiently, “What are you talking about here?”
Ji Gui let out a laugh and looked at Ji Yan sarcastically. “Are you saying that I’m lying?”
The former then took a step forward and arrogantly reached out her hand to snatch the card on the roses Ji Yan had planned to throw away while glaring at Ji Yan with vicious rage.
“If you didn’t hook up with Yu An, why would he send you flowers? Moreover, there are 99 roses. Ji Yan, you’re too shameless. You even stole your sister’s fiancé.”
“What? Miss Ji is actually this kind of woman? She’s not only some man’s mistress, but she also hooked up with her brother-in-law!” The staff members in the design department gathered together and looked at Ji Yan, their expressions filled with surprise and criticism.
Li Wenjing stepped forward and set down a glass of water on the table while shooting daggers at Ji Gui. “Hey, what are you talking about? Ji Yan is not that kind of person. Your fiance is not faithful to you, so don’t accuse others instead.”
“Who do you think you are? Do you think you have the right to speak here?” Ji Gui shouted at Li Wenjing.
With that, Li Wenjing seethed and rolled up her sleeves, about to hit Ji Gui.
Ji Yan stopped the hot-tempered Li Wenjing and shook her head. Then, the former looked at Ji Gui calmly and threw the roses into her arms. “Thanks for helping me throw them into the trash can. Take them back and tell your man not to provoke me again. Ji Gui, you’d better keep an eye on your man. I’ll never touch second-hand goods. They’re too dirty.”
Ji Gui did not expect that the usually-obedient Ji Yan would dare to insult her. Thus, she instantly grew furious and reached out to hit the latter.
Ji Yan was no longer a coward. Upon noticing Ji Gui’s actions, she narrowed her eyes and gave the latter a backhand slap in the face, which directly confused Ji Gui.
Ji Gui felt a sharp pain on her cheek, then turned to look at Ji Yan while covering her face in disbelief. “You… You dare to hit me?”
Ji Yan’s expression was cold as she answered, “So what if I beat you? Ji Gui, do you really think you can bully me for a lifetime? Get out! I don’t want to see Shang Yu An or you, ever again. You’re disgusting!”
Ji Gui took a step back and could not help but feel intimidated by the bone-chilling coldness in Ji Yan’s gaze. When she found out that Shang Yu An was buying flowers, she had thought it was for her. She did not expect him to send the flowers to Ji Yan’s office.
In a rage, she came to Ji Yan’s company and planned to cause a scene to embarrass the latter and ruin her career. Unexpectedly, Ji Yan was not guilty at all. Every word she said was true, and Ji Gui did not know how to respond to them.
However, Ji Gui was unwilling to give up. Anger surged in her heart, and her facial expression became twisted. She glared at Ji Yan and said, “Ji Yan, don’t think that you have someone backing you up after marrying a businessman. If it weren’t for me, you would just be an illegitimate daughter everyone frowns upon. You should be grateful to me.”
Ji Gui’s words had indirectly revealed Ji Yan’s true background to everyone. Ji Yan was actually married? And she was married to a businessman? And it turned out that she’s an illegitimate daughter!
Ji Yan tried her best to suppress the anger in her heart and looked at Ji Gui with an even colder gaze. She then spat the words that hurt Ji Gui’s heart, “Ji Gui, don’t forget who forced me to marry into the Shang family and stole my three-year-long boyfriend. I don’t owe you anything, and I never owed the Ji family!”
Ji Yan had whispered those words to Ji Gui, so no one had heard what the former said. Therefore, they all guessed what Ji Yan was talking about.
Meanwhile, Ji Yan approached Ji Gui step by step. “Leave, or I’ll call security, Miss Ji.”
Ji Gui looked at Ji Yan with hatred, her hands tightly clenched into fists. She wished he could torture Ji Yan as much as she used to but was too afraid to do it. Ji Yan’s eyes were like Medusa’s as she shot her a cold glare.
With that, Ji Yan watched Ji Gui leave the office, then turned around and said to the staff members of the design department coldly and calmly, “Go to work.”
“Miss Ji, your private life is really messy,” a mean and envious woman in the design department said. She was Liu Yun, rumored to be Li Ying’s good friend.
Ji Yan glanced at Liu Yun and replied, “There’s no need for you to worry about my family affairs. Just put your heart on your own work.”
Hearing this, Liu Yun snorted and turned back to her seat.
After that, Ji Yan ignored the strange looks around her and walked calmly to the manager’s office.
As she sat on the leather chair, Ji Yan massaged the space between her eyebrows weakly. At that moment, countless frustrations arose in her heart. She was afraid that it would not take long for all kinds of rumors about Ji Gui’s visit to spread in the company.
Many people were not convinced when she was appointed as manager. At this point, she thought many people would probably try to slander her in private.
