In Sixth Dragon Penthouse!
Preston was seated in the armchair, a smirk flickering over his lips. She must have noticed it by now, I suppose.
He completely forgot that there were other people in the study because he was so preoccupied thinking about the frustrated expression on his sweet wife’s face.
“Young Master,” Arius said after clearing his voice.
Immediately, Preston’s focus was brought back to what the investigator he hired was saying.
“You really mean you can’t find them?” They shivered and were unable to look him in the eye as his harsh voice echoed out in the room, “I paid you both money to find just two innocent females and you can’t do your jobs?”
Arius’s lips, however, couldn’t help but twitch. Harmless? Although he would readily acknowledge it, Preston’s sisters are cute but harmless? Nope. They are nothing but a pain in the ass!
Wouldn’t it be simple to track them if they were as “harmless” as Preston claimed? One of them could give you a headache, but all of them together are monsters!
Simply put, Preston loves them too much to notice.
“Leave! Give yourself two days to find them. Even if it means levelling the entire city of Harithon. Find them!”
“Sir, yes.”
Lenora, on the other hand, kept scrolling through the multiple debit alerts she had received, the amounts getting ridiculous as she did so.
He was clearly spending the money she made off her job as an engineer some days back!
She sprinted down the stairs in a panic to look for him when she saw the remaining balance. He spent every last penny of the 1. 5 billion, leaving nothing but just 400, 000 million. Only!
She, unfortunately, got it muddled up because she had trouble following directions and wound up in the maid’s quarters.
“Youthful Madam! If you needed us, you should have called; this is the maid’s quarters”
Lenora gave Mrs Becky a stern look. “Where is Preston?”
Becky glanced at Lenora and realized Preston had done something wrong.
“Umm, Young Master left earlier this morning. He said to tell you that whatever is yours is also his and…” Becky trailed off as she watched her face turn ugly.
“And?”
“And uh, everything he does is for your own good.”
For my own… Ha!
Lenora let out a furious snort.
Someone using my funds while saying it is for my benefit?
“Also…” Becky started.
“What? What else did he say?!” Lenora snapped.
“No, a package came for you this morning too. It’s in the living room.”
Lenora looks at Mrs Becky with skepticism before tagging along behind her to the living room. She gently opened the brown packet that had been presented to her before freezing when she saw the two large letters that were emblazoned on the paperwork.
The court has filed a lawsuit against her for theft and embezzlement totalling $20 billion.
Lenora would have sputtered her coffee if she had been holding it in her mouth due to shock.
“Young Madam, are you all right?”
Lenora shook at Mrs Becky’s voice. She had totally forgotten someone standing there. “Yes, nothing’s wrong. Have you noticed who delivered this?”
“No. It was only recently discovered in the mail today.”
Lenora pursed her lips and rush upstairs. After a quick bath, she prepared to go out to the Gonzalez family because she can’t understand how shameless they can be by pushing the family loss in her name. She couldn’t believe she’d be going back after everything.
It must be a huge joke. 20 billion?
If this is true then why hasn’t it been announced that the Gonzalez stock has been sold off to another? Or are they trying to keep everything under wraps?
“Young Madam, I’ll drive you out,” Mark announced seeing how she was rushing out in a hurry.
“No! I’ll be back soon.”
•••
Have you ever been in a situation where you feel like you’re been watched and followed? That was how Lenora felt the moment she left the house, she couldn’t shake off the feeling that someone was monitoring her.
Who could it be?
Lucinda?
Or perhaps a Gonzalez family member?
She gasped as another thought popped into her head. Possibly her mother?
Goodness! How on earth could she have overlooked that? She recalled uploading the video to her laptop, but she never had a chance to track the car in the tape.
If it’s her mom then she would make sure she sees her today.
When the bus came to a stop, she came down, clutching the envelope in hand. She deliberately came to a stop two blocks from her home to check who was following.
Surprisingly, one person also dropped off the bus.
Female to be exact.
Is she a reporter? Are there more of them?
Funny enough, Lenora wasn’t getting any dangerous instinct from her still, she wouldn’t risk it.
She quickly dived into a sharp bend when they weren’t expecting and counted. 1, 2…
A few seconds later, the individual came into view while Lenora jumped on her from behind while holding a handful of keys to her neck.
“Who are you? What do you want?”
Quickly raising her hands in submission, the woman gave up. “Big sister, don’t kill me!” a young child’s frightened cry rang out, causing Lenora to pause
She quickly flipped the person over only to see a young lady in her early teens putting on lots of cardigans.
Frowning, Lenora pulled the cap off her head… imagine her shock when she saw noticed something. The girl’s eyes!
They were deep blue in colour. The same shade of azure.
What is this? These eyes again?
Why is she constantly running into people with these eyes? There is no way this could be a coincidence.
Lenora quickly put the key back into her purse and stared at the little girl. “Who are you? Why are you following me?”
The girl looked past Lenora’s shoulder and pulled her to a corner. “Bad people are after me, big sister. They won’t suspect me as much because I followed you. They just kidnapped my sister, and now they’re coming for me!” she exclaimed in a single breath.
“Ugh…” Lenora blinked. Since she already has enough troubles on her plate, she genuinely doesn’t have time for this and wouldn’t want to become engaged in anything messy.
“Big sister, please! I’m new in town and don’t have anywhere to go. I need to find my sister quickly before something bad happens to her. Hmm? Pretty please?” she whispered while blinking her pretty doe eyes at Lenora.
Surely, no one can resist her puppy eyes, right?
Lenora sighed. “Fine.”
Squealing, she tried to throw herself into Lenora’s arms but the couldn’t because of the jacket she had on.
“Okay, first. You need to get rid of those sweaters before you suffocate… and what’s your name again?”
“Inari. Given that you’re a wonderful big sister, I’ll let you call me Nari.” Inari smiled watching as Lenora helped her with the sweaters.
“You see, I can disguise myself with makeup but there was no time for that, I could only put on many sweaters in order to look fat. Smart, right?”
Lenora was speechless by her explanation. She could only harrumph.
Once the sweaters came off, Lenora took in Inari with a new light. Hmm, what a beauty. It makes sense why bad guys are pursuing her.
From her blue eyes, pink lips, and petite heart-shaped face to her pointed nose. Even though Harithon was a civilized culture, there were occasionally unsafe situations for young girls.
Lenora came out from the hiding spot and studied her surroundings, when she didn’t see anything out of normal, called out to Inari.
Inari held the bunch of sweaters and rushed to meet Lenora like a lost puppy, “Yes?”
