“I don’t want to do this Grace, I already know I am not pregnant,”
Nicole told Grace as she sat looking at the pregnancy test kit Grace bought, they were making her take the test even though she had told them again and again that she wasn’t pregnant, her twin and her best friend were convinced that she was, it was Natalie that called Grace and together they bullied her into getting the kit that was needed to do a self-test.
Natalie had made the decision without telling her, she couldn’t blame her sister for thinking she was pregnant, she still hasn’t stopped throwing up every morning and it was becoming a habit even the slightest smell of a cologne she wasn’t used to and off she went, it was so consistent that she now has to have something dry with her to reduce her rate of throwing up, and Natalie kept insisting that it was a sign of being pregnant, as she knew she couldn’t get pregnant she had told her sister off but then Natalie went ahead and called Grace who went out of her way to get the kits, now she sat with Grace in her room about to take the test.
“Let’s do it still, Natalie, we are ready,”
Grace said and a few seconds later, Natalie ran into her room, looking excited, there was nothing to be excited about, she knew she wasn’t pregnant, if, for anything, she was damn sure, they pushed her into the restroom, where she peed in the little bowl provided with the kits, then dipped each brand in the urine and waited for the required time, even though she knew what the result will be, she was still anxious and closed her eyes, breathing in and out, when she opened them again, she got the shocker of her life.
“What does it say?”
They both asked when she got out of the restroom, she looked at the both of them and busted out laughing, they joined her.
“What? It wasn’t? God, I had my hopes up for my Nirael ship, why am I even laughing this is sad for me,”
Grace said as she stopped laughing, Natalie did too.
“Yeah me too, but we don’t even know the results yet,”
“Isn’t that obvious by her laughing? She is laughing at us for being paranoid,”
Grace said, Nicole couldn’t reply, this wasn’t real, there must be a problem with the kit, it wasn’t accurate.
“Still it would still be nice to hear from her, twinnie? What does it say?”
“It’s not accurate,”
She said and walked up to sit on the bed.
“What do you mean Nicole?”
“I mean I can’t be pregnant, the doctor said I might never get pregnant so that must be a false alarm,”
She let out
“What do you mean by that?”
Natalie asked coming to stand before her, the look in her eyes made her do a retake of her words but it was too late.
“I don’t get what you are saying, why am I just hearing this? Is it because of what happened?”
“Natalie, please don’t start with the blames again, this is why I didn’t tell you, I know you will start blaming yourself again,”
“I wasn’t going to, I told you I won’t do that again and I am not backing out on my words, you should have told me,”
“I am sorry, I should have I just didn’t want you to, sorry, Natalie,”
Nicole apologized, bowing her head, she should trust her sister more.
“So, Nicole? What did the result say?’
Grace asked for a few moments of silence, Nicole shook her head.
“It’s not accurate, there is no way I am pregnant,”
She let out.
“Does that mean it showed two lines? Can we go and see?”
“You can, I am just going to lay down,”
She said the ladies were in her restroom before she could finish, she laid down on the bed just as she heard their screams, she didn’t believe it, she wasn’t pregnant, it won’t have happened so easily, the doctors said her chances of being a mom were low and she had done a lot of tests before she was discharged to make sure they weren’t lying, so how would she be pregnant from just one night? She didn’t believe in miracles.
“Oh my gosh Nicole, they are all showing the same thing, three brands can’t all be lying,”
“It’s can’t be, this is not true,”
Nicole said.
“Well, they can’t all be lying,”
“It’s not accurate, it was a one-time thing and he, God,”
She said, she couldn’t tell them what Josie had told her that Rafael thought about their night together, the word still rang a bell in her ears and still made her feel less of herself, he thought their time together was disgusting, the hurt that word had caused.
“Well, since you are in doubt, there is only one way to find out further,”
Her sister said coming to sit near her.
“What’s that?”
“You take a laboratory test, that doesn’t lie,”
“I don’t need to do that, those tests aren’t accurate,”
“Don’t be stubborn Nicole, I just googled it and all brands can’t be lying,”
Grace said showing her the phone she held, she looked at it and shook her head.
“Oh God, just do it already,”
Natalie said in a pleading voice.
“If you don’t, I will tell mom and dad and you won’t have a choice, they are already worried about you,”
That got her, she didn’t want to raise her parent’s hopes, she knew they would be happy if they find out she was carrying.
“Fine, I will do it,”
She said reluctantly.
“Good, Grace will accompany you as I have to be somewhere right now, call me when you are done, baby girl,”
“Fine,”
She said as Natalie hugged her and left the room, she turned to Grace who had a smile on her face.
“It’s not accurate Grace,”
She said to her friend.
“We will find out once we do a laboratory test,”
Grace replied…
