“Don’t tell me I left the door open,”
“Huh, oh, yeah, you did, the door was unlocked when I came in, maybe you took a cab home because your car isn’t in the yard and also why didn’t you take your bodyguard and driver if you knew you were going to get so drunk?’
She asked him in a voice that sounded like she was scolding him.
“I told them to go home, I never intended to get that drunk, one thing leads to the other and well, I couldn’t stop myself,”
“At least next time get a drinking buddy that you will not overdo things or better still drink at home, you are not just anyone Rafael, you are a freaking rich man and anything can be done to you in your vulnerable state and you will wake up in the morning to the consequences and not remembering most of your actions,”
“I will, I am sorry I brought you out of your house so early,”
“No, it’s fine, I am happy that I can help,”
She said, they sat in silence for a while until he got up and went back into his room to get what he needed for work, he still couldn’t rule out the fact that someone else had been here, he couldn’t have gotten home by himself and no one knew where he lived except Caleb who wasn’t in town, he ruled out Nicole because she hung up on him, maybe the staff at the club got into a cab and sent him home, that was the only conclusion he could draw from it, he had a lot to do and couldn’t sit down thinking all day about how he got home, at least he got home safely.
When he came back from his room, Josie was ready to leave, they left the house together and he locked it behind him.
“Do you own the lands surrounding this place?”
She asked looking around.
“No, not yet, I am still negotiating with the owner,”
“Wow, this place would make a good living estate,”
“Yes, that’s what I have in mind when I got this house, anyway let me drive you since I am hitching a ride with you I may as well work for it,”
He said stretching his hand out for the keys, she shook her head in refusal
“I can’t give you my key, you still have alcohol on your system, you are not fit to drive,”
She said, he understood what she meant but the one word she choose to use pissed him off, the same words those losers had used, unfit, not good, he hated those words, he didn’t argue with Josie, just kept his anger to himself, she didn’t do anything to him and wasn’t the cause of his present mood and it would be wrong to take it out on her.
He got in the passenger seat and she zoned off, they got to his office in a few minutes.
“Thank you once again, Josie, I owe you,”
“Well, you can pay me back by making out time out of your busy schedule for the both of us,”
She said smiling, he smiled back.
“I will try, though I can’t promise anything,”
He said getting out of the car and waving her off, he walked up into his office complex got in the elevator with some of his workers who greeted him he responded accordingly.
“Sir, I have been expecting you, I was able to speak with one of the staff and she told me to call back when you come in,”
She revealed, his other secretaries following behind him, he turned to face them.
“I don’t need you all right now, Mani, get me on that call,”
“Okay sir, they all chorused and left, he entered his office, and sat down, Armani came back a few moments later with the phone, he took it from her and spoke with the staff whoever she is.
“You have to be kidding me, so this is not about me not being fit but about me not asking first before starting out my plans? Who do these old hags think they are?”
He asked angrily all over again, they were crazy if they think he would just back out like that they will have to think again, at this rate he wouldn’t with the governor of the state himself, he didn’t care just how long it will take him to meet with him himself, he needed to know it he really looked at his proposal and gave it a reject without thinking of thousands of unemployed people that opening the mine will help not to talk of the economic value it will have, if the president and his advisor really saw these and decided to still not approve then he was going to look for another option in another country, their loss not his.
“Yes, that’s the case, I just had to let you know,”
“Wow, thank you so much, I owe you,”
He said and ended the call and picked up the office line, Armani came into his office seconds later.
“Armani, please can you set a meet-up with the governor? I don’t care how long it takes to meet him, I just want him to tell me to my face why he thinks my owning a mine won’t be a good development,”
He said to his assistant.
“Yes sir,”
She responded and left, yes that was what he will do, he wasn’t going through any middle man again, he would speak to the guy himself, he hoped they can meet real soon., Armani came back faster than he thought.
“Sir, we can have a meeting with him by Thursday as he is out of the country now, he is scheduled to return tomorrow but has to rest and by Tuesday his schedule is already full, same with Wednesday,”
“That’s quicker than I thought, thank you, I should have thought of meeting him direct just that I don’t want to get involved with that kind of people,”
“I know what you mean, but if you ask me, I think that’s the best play, I don’t think our proposal got to his table, I can’t put it past those people in power, they talked about it themselves and decided, I don’t know if I am thinking wrong but I can’t help but feel that’s exactly what happened because the more I think about it, the more I feel this is a welcome development that would give a lot of people work and reduce unemployment,”
“Exactly my thoughts, thank you, you can go,”
He said and she left, leaving him on his own, he still had a hangover to nurse so he didn’t rest a little before going for his next meeting…
