He walked out of the huge party hall, more people were starting to enter and the place was getting filled, he wanted the party to be over and done with so that he can go back home, he wasn’t up for the fake smile and fake pleasantries being exchanged by obvious rivals here.
“We are about to start, can everyone make their way inside the auditorium please,”
He heard the MC say, barely two minutes after he got out, he rolled his eyes and walked back inside, he sat with a group of people whose face he didn’t recognize, he saw Josie the lady Caleb had introduced to him earlier wave at him, he waved back with a smile, he couldn’t deny her beauty even though Nicole still remained the most beautiful woman he has ever met, he looked around just to be sure he had imagined her here earlier, at first it was looking like it until he spotted her again at the far end, his heart leaped but it came crashing when he saw him again, the man she had been kissing at the studio that day, they were really a thing and she was making it public, did she know that he will be here today? Was that why she brought him here to make him jealous? Their eyes met and held, she didn’t bother to acknowledge him and just looked away before smiling at the bastard, who held her hand, he watched as they both headed to the dance floor, feeling his rage building, how dare she think of dancing with another man when she knew he was there, she definitely knew, she saw him, ignored him and instead decided to go dancing with another man, even though they were divorced, she should have some respect for what they had, how can she.
“You are talking nonsense,”
The voice in his head managed to get past all the noises of the music in the room and disturb him, he choose to ignore it, whatever was right or wrong, Nicole should know better than to already be public dating, heck she didn’t do public thing before, except she was doing all these to make him jealous.
“Yeah, right, like she knew you would magically show up at the studio that’s why she was kissing him,”
The voice in his head whispered, technically, he didn’t see them kiss, he left before they did but he knew it would have happened, they looked so cozy that day, he hated the thought of Nicole with another man, he curled his hand into a fist willing himself to look past it and just forget but then the more he saw them dancing together, the more he couldn’t control himself, he was about to get up and leave when Josie’s voice stopped him, she smiled at him.
“Wanna dance, my date Caleb ditched, he had to return to Florida,”
She revealed, he could barely hear over the music, all he could make out was that she wanted to dance and Caleb left for Florida which he already knew.
“Let’s dance,”
He said when he looked and saw Nicole looking at him while dancing with the mudafucker, he pulled Josie along with him to the dance floor, his eyes met with Nicole’s again, she looked away once she noticed him watching her, he saw that bastard pull her closer, felt his temper rise, he looked away and continued dancing with Josie, who was smiling brightly at him.
“Would it be okay if I asked for your number?”
She asked after they stopped dancing and he gladly gave it to her, he liked her, she was friendly, she excused herself after their number exchange, he looked around for Nicole when he was alone again but didn’t see her.
“Maybe she left,”
He thought walking out of the hotel towards the balcony which he was sure would be empty, okay it wasn’t empty though, as there was a woman standing there, as he got closer he realized it was Nicole.
He couldn’t resist walking up to her when he saw her alone, she was standing by the balcony, watching the night at least that’s what she looked like she was doing, she had her back on him, earlier when their eyes had met and she didn’t even acknowledge him, that shit had hurt him.
“Aren’t you cold? You should not be out here alone,”
He said walking up to her, she turned to look at him, she frowned, wow, so the sight of him makes her frown, just how fast the night have changed when months ago, she was always smiling when she sees him.
“I am fine,”
She said turning away from him, he stood beside her inhaling the familiar smell of her, she always smelt so good and he had been addicted, heck he was still addicted.
“You moved on really fast for someone who claimed that she can’t live without me,”
He voiced, he knew he shouldn’t say those words but then what he saw earlier inside had him on the edge.
“Huh, what does that matter? I am allowed to continue living right?”
“Nothing, just that well, one would have expected you would at least be,”
“Be what?”
She asked cutting him off, he wasn’t sure what he was about to say either, he should really just go and let her be.
“Why? You can’t say the words? Do you expect me to still be pinning for you? To still be mourning the loss of what we had? Is that it? Well guess what, Rafael, I am doing just fine.,”
She said, and he could tell, she looked just fine, the last time they had been this close, she had been in the wheelchair with tears running down her eyes begging him not to end things, maybe he did this to her, maybe he made her become someone else so why was he complaining?
“You are getting this wrong, I am just saying it is too early to,”
He said she eyes him pointing at him…
