“Wow, a honeymoon? We have been married for months. Why now?”
Nicole asked in a suspicious tone, she wasn’t buying this, he was tricking her like he did when he wanted her to go for a business trip with him a week ago.
“Yes, baby, not a trick this time, we are going to Bora Bora, it’s a honeymoon location, no work, just the two of us, oh I mean the three of us, what do you say?”
“Sounds tempting, how many days?”
“Ten days, we will leave by Thursday and return next week Sunday,”
“I might wanna do it but first you have to apologize to your friend, if not even though it is tempting I am not going, you can’t cut off people you are close with, everyone has trust issues but there should be a limit,”
“Fine, I will,”
He reluctantly agreed, she waited for him to call his friend, who to her surprise picked up which further confirmed her judgment that Rafael must have mistaken the guy for what he is not.
“Loudspeaker,”
She instructed and he did just that.
“Hi, Caleb, this is Rafael’s wife, how are you?”
She asked.
“Hi, Natalie, how are you doing? I thought Rafael was the one that called, I guess not,”
Caleb didn’t yet know she wasn’t Natalie which goes to show Rafael didn’t really take him as his friend, she wanted to correct him but just let it be.
“Yeah, the sinner is here, I am passing the phone to him, whatever he said before he is gonna take it back, don’t worry,”
She said turning to her husband who wasn’t having anything she was saying and bluntly refusing to see reasons with her. “I gave him a good scolding,”
She added, signaling Rafael to take the call and talk.
“Hey man? What’s up?”
Caleb asked but Rafael didn’t say a word.
“Come on Rafael,”
She urged silently, giving him a soft push, he finally yielded.
“I am sorry about what happened earlier Caleb, I can’t excuse myself, but don’t take what I said to heart,”
“It’s fine, I should have known someone like you won’t want to have anything to do with someone like me, I guess I was pushing my luck, it’s all good now that I know my place,”
Caleb responded, Nicole could hear the hurt in his voice and felt sad that her husband was the cause of it.
“Someone like you? Someone like me? What do you mean by that?”
Rafael asked.
“Don’t worry about it, I am not mad at you, I just know not to go places where I am not wanted, it’s cool, have a nice day,”
Caleb said and the call ended abruptly.
“That’s it right? You are going with me right?”
He asked, Nicole let out a sigh, she had a lot of work to do with his trust issues, the Caleb man was a good friend and she was sure.
“Baby? Come on?”
Rafael said when she didn’t say a word.
“Maybe, promise me that you will meet up with Caleb and talk things out with him when we return,”
She urged. she wanted them to be okay again.
“Sure, I promise,”
“And you will give him a chance and make your friendship work, I know I might sound controlling but I think if you and Caleb stop being friends you might not like it after a while, everyone needs that someone who might not be a lover but something more than that, that’s the kind of bond I share with Grace and we haven’t even know each other that long, for you to have a friend you have known for over five years, that’s something amazing, don’t let it go,”
“Okay, I won’t, I will do my best to mend things with Caleb okay? So are you in, on coming with me?”
He asked, she already accepted but she hoped he wasn’t just agreeing to make up with Caleb just to get her to go with him.
“Yes, I am in,”
She replied.
“Good, now you can get all you need for the trip, keeping in mind that there is a lot of water,”
“I know, but I can’t swim,”
“I will teach you,”
“Okay, how long is the flight from Florida to Bora Bora?”
“About eleven hours or ten,”
“Okay, count me in,”
“Yes, now tell me what you have been up to today?”
“Nothing much, I made something for you,”
She said pulling him along to their room, she had the painting of him displayed in their bedroom, it looked better now while hanging there, it had taken her quite a while to finish but she liked the final look and hoped he did too.
“Wow, it’s so fine, you have genius hands, my love,”
“Thank you, I am glad you love it, I started working on it and wanted to give it to you as an apology gift after I tell you the truth, but then you found out, and well you know the rest, I am glad that I can finally give it to you, it one of my best works, I really want to show it off to the world but that will give away my anonymous self, so you have to give it a lot of love,”
“Of course, I will,”
“Good, now give me a reward,”
She suggested, he smiled at her and pulled her closer to him.
“What kind of reward do my baby want? I can give anything,”
“You know what I want,”
