Over the months, Tom’s condition was increasing as he became vibrant and cheerful unlike when the accident just occurred. He enjoyed listening to stories of the past from his mother so he knew some information about himself and they were enough to know who he was.
After seeing Amber in his articles over and over, she caught her attention and wondered who she was but his mother only told him that she was his secretary without including the relationship they had because she was still angry about how she left abruptly.
Anita had gone shopping that fateful day and one pretty lady shifted for her to tender her goods first even though she was not obligated to and in the process of thanking her, she saw that it was who she never expected.
The shopping basket fell from Amber’s hand at the sight of Tom’s mother but she was quickly helped by the stores employees who ran to gather the scattered goods. Anita wanted to ignore her but she didn’t hesitate to tell her side of the story when she heard that Tom was in an accident which claimed his memories.
Amber was bent on following Anita home to check up on him and as said, he didn’t recognize her as his girlfriend but secretary. She wasn’t offended about that and just vowed to be by his side as anything he wanted.
“You should live with me then, you know so much about me so I want to know things that happened” Tom proposed and she became reluctant
“I will pay you any amount you want” he added, trying to convince her.
She was not reluctant because of the money but about if he suddenly regains his memory and remembers the cruel way she had cut her off. She explained to her mother who told her to just do her work for now instead of worrying about the future. When the time comes, they will know how to handle things because she also did what she did to save his face.
For months, Lawrence kept coming to check up on him occasionally while also preparing for his grand exhibition. He had scouted Tom as one of the artists whose works would be displayed at his exhibition to fulfil the promise they had made while they were small. They had promised to do a joint exhibition and that was what he was planning when he announced the exhibition.
He would come over to supervise and draw with Tom sometimes and picked the ones he deem fit for the exhibition whenever he was going. His employees wondered why he didn’t invite other artists to his grand exhibition except the unknown one but he only smiled and told them that this was the way he wanted it.
Finally, the exhibition came and Tom was flown to Paris where the exhibition took place and his works were displayed alongside Lawrence’s works. Lawrence was the curator who explained every of his drawings as the steps of his life and also Tom’s works according to the explanations Tom gave to each drawings.
At the end of the exhibition, he brought in two canvas which sparked the interest of both Tom and everyone. He explained the first one as the first drawing Tom had ever drew in his life with his dad and the second one was the one he drew before giving up on his dreams then. Tears streamed down Tom’s face as he stared intently at it and Amber who couldn’t control her tears too broke down.
The wave of emotion hitting his brain constantly provoked his memories and he held his head in pain. He screamed as he held his head tight before fainting after a while and he was rushed to the hospital where he was unconscious for hours.
When he finally woke up, he refused to talk to anyone and only kept staring at them which made them worried. Amber told Anita to rest up while she take over and Tom spoke up eventually.
“You once told me you made a painful decision, how do you think the person you acted that way to would live now?” he suddenly asked Amber who was first confused about the question before she remembered that she talked a lot about her and Tom while she was nursing him in disguise as his secretary but she didn’t tell him it was their story.
“I made that decision back then because I thought it was the best thing to do but come to think about it, I should have opened up and let him know what was happening to me, then give him the chance to choose. I never gave him an option which was a selfish move on my part” she answered innocently and he smiled before muttering a little “I see”.
He was discharged from the hospital and his mother decided to hold a small feast to thank everyone who had stood by Tom’s side till now. The party came to an end and Amber had to take her leave because the slated time she promised to spend with him was up. She went to bid him a goodbye at the balcony where he enjoys sitting at and when she was about leaving, he held her hand.
“Do you want to ignore whatever had happened in the past and start a new life with me? I might not have my memories but I want to create brand new memories with you” he proposed to her astonishment.
She wanted to jump at that opportunity but retracted her hand. “It would have been better if you are making this decision after retrieving your memory. If I take an advantage of your situation now, I would never be able to comfortably love you because of the guilt of my sins” she answered with tears streaming down her face.
Tom drew her closer and muttered “You fool, I am asking you this because I want to forget everything that had happened. It was a situation where you were scared but I kept playing ignorant instead of being a shield. You didn’t want to drag me down with you and left that way but thank you for coming back” slowly in her ears.
She gasped at his words and a nod from him confirmed what she was thinking, he had regained his memories. They both sobbed in each other’s embrace for a while as they confessed how much they missed each other, how they longed for each other and expressed their feelings without boundaries.
