A DEVIL WITHIN US

Book:THE CEO'S PET Published:2024-6-2

Harvey indeed landed in Moscow like Joseph wanted but she took another flight to Paris the next day to continue her shopping schedule. She didn’t have any reasons to obey Joseph and hide because of him, she has her life to live after all.
She had been in Paris for quite a while but didn’t shop and influence them on her channel since she landed because she was busy keeping on the new fashion trends thanks to the lecture she received from Amber the last time she visited Shellhouse mall in Chicago. It occurred to her that she indeed needed a catch on the fast changing fashion trend.
After a nerve-wracking studying all day, she stepped out for some clubbing in a pink ruffle dress that was barely covering her thighs halfway, coupled with a black leather high knee boot. She had taken her seat at the far end of the bar to enjoy the scenery of the atmosphere when she sighted Lawrence and Amber walking into the bar.
She was confused about what she was doing there with a stranger since it was so random and wanted to call her attention but waived the thought instead. Her eyes were feeding on the various moves and grooves when it landed on her again and she saw another guy sitting with her this time around.
“She must be having the time of her life” she muttered and rolled her eyes. Her attention was about to shift to another part of the club when she noticed the guy with her slipping a drug into her drink as she bent to pick up her fallen bag.
She flew up quickly, releasing a low but firm “That son of a bitch!” as she approached her with widened and hastened footstep. Thanks to her quick intervention, Amber was about to drink from her cup but she yanked the cup away from her, making but Amber and the culprit alarmed.
“Harvey L?” Amber blurt out as she turned to see whoever had the guts to snatch her cup from her just like that.
“Don’t drink this, it’s spiked already” She went straight to the point and Amber exchanged glances with the guy who shrugged that he doesn’t know what Harvey is blabbing about. Amber turned to look at her once again, this time with a soft smile, “What do you mean spiked? We have been talking for quite a while and he didn’t even touch my drink” Amber argued and Harvey scoffed before placing her hand on her lips as a shut up signal for the guy who was about to support what Amber just said.
Harvey walked closer to him and placed her hand on his shoulder, stretched the cup in front of him and commanded a firm “Drink from it then”. Amber watched in amazement as Ailey dodged the talk and ranted about how he didn’t touch the drink or likes the particular drink but Harvey wouldn’t give up.
“I know you are not a fan of this particular drink but it wouldn’t kill you to take a sip, will it?” she insisted and Amber was feeling bad already with the scene she was causing so she quickly intervened. “You might have seen wrong, it is impolite to blame someone like this” Amber defended but Harvey motioned for her to stay put.
“Okay, to wrap this absurd situation up then I will take a sip” Ailey volunteered and took the cup from Harvey who was watching over him like a hawk. He brought the cup to his mouth and slowly took a minute sip that wasn’t even enough to be called a drop but a sudden jack on the cup and his hand from Harvey sent a large portion into his mouth in a flash making him spit it out with a lightening speed.
“Water!” he yelled at the waiter who was torn about where to get that for him since all the shelves were filled with wine bottles.
He rushed to reach for the ice buckets, packed a load of it in his mouth and turned to run to the bathroom but Lawrence grabbed him and pulled him back by the collar. “Where do you think you are going to, you piece of shit!” he roared at her and grabbed his throat, forcing the ice off his mouth with immediate effect.
“I apologize!” Ailey groaned at the point of suffocation and Lawrence threw him to the ground. Series of coughs left his mouth as he tried to catch up on the lost breath. His life flashed right in front of him and his chest was rising and falling as Lawrence fished out his phone to call the police.
The police showed up in two minutes time and took him away, it was after then Harvey explained to her that he had purposely knocked off her bag on the table so he could fulfil his goals.
“The drink didn’t buzz though, I never noticed” Amber argued and Harvey smiled before telling her “These people use different tricks and advanced drugs every day, you better watch out for yourself when you come to the club”.
“It’s surprising to see you here though, do you have an official assignment in Paris?” she asked further and Amber nodded.
“Thank you for today” Amber greeted and she winked in reply.
Lawrence came back to join them after seeing Ailey off with the police and Harvey went back to her seat to continue her scenery watching, she wasn’t feeling like dancing after all so why not just watch others dance?.

One of the employees at the CEO’s floor was assigned by Tom to work in place of Amber pending the time she would return from her trip and things have been crazy with her trying to get accustomed to the seat. Many invoices were lining up for her to review while other documents to finalize before submitting to the CEO.
She walked into Tom’s office to drop a file she recently worked on with a very tired face, she could not bear the sudden burden placed on her shoulders but who was she to complain? Her salary would also be increased for those days so it was like a gift to her, she needed more money after all.
Tom stretched his hand to retrieve the file and stated, “You must be feeling tired already since you are not used to the work. You can pass over some work to me and also have an hour break for yourself to rest and regain your energy”. Which made her jump for joy.
“Thank you so much sir” she shouted in happiness and he motioned for her to go. She couldn’t even hide the fact that she was happy at his command.
He continued working on the invoices when Amber’s call came in. “You must have a lot of free time” was what he said immediately he picked the call and she chuckled. “I really have much at hand right now as I am preparing for the exhibition but I called to inform you about something” she started and he listened promptly to what she had to say.
I just heard from some of my friends that Dave Lin landed in Chicago today. He had previously declined the offer to participate in the DVL summer signature that will be holding very soon because he claimed to have a serious plan in front of him, did he finally change his mind?” she asked and he went silent for some seconds.
“You mean Dave Lin is in Chicago right now? He didn’t inform me about his coming, maybe he wanted it to be a surprised visit” he responded and she agreed.
“I was wondering why the owner of the line wouldn’t be present on its launching day but I guess he readjusted the plans” she added. He told her not to worry about his end and just focus on her own part since he will make sure to take care of everything.
“The exhibition is starting in two days, I will make sure to do my best so you don’t have to worry over here too” she assured him and they disconnected the call.

The launching of the DVL summer signature started and all the models were coming out in the designed work with everyone applauding them. The stylists started the dressing from the least of the styles as they had planned and everything was going smoothly with all the invited guests present at the live show at the Shellhouse mall’s runaway arena.
Chairman Holland was although pleased with every piece that were being displayed, he kept a straight face while Joseph sat beside him too paying attention to everything that was going on.
“Bring the show’s highlight, we have to start dressing the model up” the senior stylist ordered and one of the stylists went in to bring the clothes but she was all blue when she returned with the mannequin containing the cloth, the cloth was all ruined, beyond recognition.
“What in the hell is going on here? How did the cloth turn to this?” the senior stylist screamed in shock and Tom was forced to run in and access the situation.
He stopped in his track at the sight of the cloth and whispered “What turned the clothes to this? Why is the cloth like this?” but no one was able to give a definite answer to the question he was asking.
His lip quivered with terror as series of emotions ravaged his hormones, he didn’t know if he should let hurt take over or give the wheel to anger but one thing was sure, he was at the verge of exploding.
