Henric had more to say, but when he saw the director’s face, he didn’t have the courage to speak up any longer.
With his head lowered, he left the room.
He had his reasons why he went against protocol. It was partly because of Monique. The entire hospital knew about Mr. Tyrion’s incident, and he was aware how Tyrion had been wronged.
Moreover, he had found out that the vegetative person had completely recovered. If he could use that reason to have Mr. Tyrion reinstated, he would definitely impress Monique.
However, he had failed. He was not allowed to recruit Tyrion for the operation.
Returning to the department office, he felt dejected. When he was going down the stairs, he bumped into Monique, who had just come out of the emergency room.
He blurted to her, “There is a patient in the inpatient department who needs a surgery, but this surgery can’t be performed by us. The person who is most familiar with this operation is your father. Therefore, I just went to the director’s office, hoping that he could have Mr. Tyrion for this operation, but he refused. He even reprimanded me.”
Henric explained the matter very clearly, affirming his position. Of course, Monique realized his good intentions.
Her father was far from the age of retirement. He was only 53 years old, which was 10 years below the retirement age. Although he was of age, he was very healthy.
However, because of the incident with the vegetative patient, there was a great detrimental impact on his reputation, which eventually cost him his career. He refused to seek jobs at other hospitals too.
Nevertheless, Monique was a daughter who certainly understood her father well. She was aware that he wanted to return to the hospital, his so-called battlefield.
She replied helplessly, “Mr. Chao is prejudiced against my father. Forget it. If we can’t do it, we can invite experts from other hospitals for consultation.”
“Mr. Chao is narrow-minded and selfish,” Henric echoed. “Mr. Tyrion’s excellent medical skills are pretty well known in this hospital. Besides, he was not the one to be blamed for that incident.”
Under normal circumstances, Henric usually wouldn’t dare to say it, but he could with Monique.
He even had the guts to make a few comments about the powerful director of the hospital, describing him as “narrow-minded and selfish”.
Monique looked at him gratefully. Stopping in her tracks, she told him sincerely, “Henric, I’m very happy that you are vouching for my father. Thank you!”
Monique’s smile was mesmerizing. Henric felt as though his soul had been snatched from his body and his heart beat so fast it felt like a set of drums. It was simply a wonderful feeling! It was almost like he was before his first love.
After Monique returned to the inpatient department, the nurse quickly approached Monique, informing, “Dr. Ching, your husband is here. He has a lunch box with him, looks like he’s delivering food to you. He’s so considerate.”
Two small dimples appeared on her face as she smiled brightly.
Monique suddenly froze in motion. It was hard to believe that he would still deliver food to her after the bad moments that they had been through the previous night.
There was an unexplainable feeling in her heart. She did not know how to face Brucille at the moment. After all, she was a married woman, and she thought that her actions were akin to having an affair emotionally.
Standing face-to-face with her husband, she lost her usual pride and self-esteem. She paused at the lounge entrance for a moment, taking a deep breath before pushing the door open.
Seeing that she looked a little tired, Brucille began, “Mom said that you left in a hurry this morning and didn’t have time to eat. So, she asked me to bring you some food. Since you have a weak stomach, you should pay more attention. If you are not busy with work, you should eat first.”
He had no complaints or accusations, and even his tone was as calm as still water like usual. There was even a hint of concern in his words. Monique reached out nervously and took the lunch box from Brucille.
“Okay, if there’s anything you need to do, you should leave first,” she suggested.
“I’m not in a hurry,” he replied. “I’ll wait for you to finish so that I can bring the lunch box back.”
The truth was, Monique didn’t want to face him at all. She hoped that he would be out of her sight as soon as possible as she didn’t want to endure the embarrassment and awkwardness. However, he went against her wishes, and he even wanted to watch her eat.
Usually, she would have been angry. However, on that day, she surprisingly wasn’t. She sat quietly on a blue chair and finished the oats he had brought her.
“Alright!” said Brucille when she had finished the food.
“Please go ahead with your work. I’m leaving now.” With that, Brucille left.
And that was it. Monique knew that he must be trying to get back at her. He had never treated her in such a cold manner in the past.
Just because she had called out another name the previous night, he refused to talk more to her.
Her chest was rising and falling heavily as she was enraged.
“D*mn it, Brucille! You’re just a b*stard! A complete douc-”
The door opened once again. Monique wanted to stop herself, but it was too later. The words escaped from her mouth and Brucille heard them clearly.
She was stupefied. Meanwhile, Brucille awkwardly informed, “I left the key to the bicycle lock on the table. But next time if you want to scold me, can you do it directly?”
All of a sudden, Monique felt extremely aggrieved. Tears welled up in her eyes. After a long while, she cried, “What on earth do you want to do? Do you want me to apologize to you? There’s no way! I won’t ever…”
After those words, Monique rushed out and ran away.
Brucille was very tormented. It was her who had done something wrong, but there she was crying instead of him. After all, in her drunken state, she had called another man’s name. It was a slip of a tongue in a drunken stupor.
Anger rose within him, suffocating and choking him to an unbearable extent. Hence, he took a few deep breaths to suppress his rage.
After that, he quickened his pace and followed her. In the grove at the hospital, he saw Monique wiping away her tears.
He took out a bag of tissues and handed it over. “Miss Ching, can you stop being so childish? I’ve never thought of asking you to apologize to me. I know there’s no way you will.”
“You are always so arrogant and aloof. Even if I want to talk to you, shouldn’t you be willing to listen?” he continued.
“By the way, my job here is done. I’m leaving now.”
Once again, Monique felt very wronged. “Come back here. I’m in a bad mood, so sit next to me,” she ordered.
Brucille suddenly felt like a pet dog on a leash in Monique’s hand. It was as though she had a leash on him that could tighten or loosen at her will. At her command, he would have to obediently return to her side.
“There is an extremely important operation in the hospital. The doctors in the department can’t do it, but my father can. However, Donald doesn’t want to give my father a chance. Do you have any ideas?” she implored.
