Soon, their dinner came to an end.
Monique got off the car, carrying lots of shopping bags. Brucille took the remaining bags and brought them to her room.
Perhaps no one would believe it but that was actually his first time entering his wife’s room as the door was always closed to him. There was a light hint of fragrance in the room, like jasmine perfume.
After putting down the bags, Brucille wisely decided, “I’ll go down first.”
“Okay!”
The moment Monique looked at the closed door, she felt a little uncomfortable and her nose began to itch.
Although she had never hoped he would give her a sense of security, he never failed to surprise her recently.
The figure that disappeared through the door looked so lonely. She smiled bitterly at the sight.
Under the illumination of the crystal lights, she saw the designer’s signature on the black crocodile skin handbag.
Brucille was in a good mood that day. After returning to his room, he spent some time scrolling through his cell phone, before washing up and heading to bed.
Tyrion was in a better mood. He always got up very early. After exercising with few old friends, he would turn on the TV and watch the morning news. He was someone who was informed of all news, be it family affairs, national affairs, or global affairs.
After Tyrion was done exercising, Brucille was finally crawled out of bed as he had been awakened by the noises from the TV.
“According to the reports, Mr. Benedict, the general manager of the local well-known company Oceanic Group, was unanimously elected by the board as the new chairman. The following is a live broadcast from our station.”
Brucille, who was still in a daze, was suddenly wide awake. He rushed to the TV and saw a familiar face in it.
Benedict’s face appeared on the screen as he spoke into the microphone of the reporter, “It’s a tragedy that my godfather, Mr. Evan, died of a heart attack suddenly. I am very sad, but I must fulfill his last wish and lead Oceanic Group to greater heights. Thank you…”
The reporter asked, “Mr. Leung, according to the public information of Oceanic Group, you are not the biggest shareholder. How can you win the election of the chairman?”
“I don’t know where you have gotten the information. My godfather, Mr. Evan, has already given all his shares of the company to me, so of course I am the largest shareholder of Oceanic Group…”
Benedict did not comment further to the reporters. Instead, he got into his car and left, leaving the cameramen in hot pursuit behind me.
Brucille was enraged beyond words to see him.
He thought that it was very likely that both his Uncle Evan’s death and his own death were caused by Benedict.
Benedict actually became the chairman of Oceanic Group, and there was no way for Uncle Evan to have given him his shares. Uncle Evan had always hoped that Brucille would help him to run the company.
While it might be true that Benedict took the assets by force, however, Brucille would be digging his own grave if he made a move. No one would believe him if he told others about his actual identity.
Tyrion sighed regretfully, “He is old and he should pay attention to his health. Evan’s life was exciting and legendary. I heard that he established his own business when he was only seventeen and spent the remaining half of his life developing the Oceanic Group. But why doesn’t he have his own son or daughter? Why did he leave such a huge enterprise to his godson?”
Without thinking further, Brucille blurted, “He used to be married when he was young. His wife and son were all killed in a car accident. He did not remarry because he was in too much sorrow.”
Tyrion cast a strange gaze at Brucille, asking in surprise, “Brucille, how do you know that so clearly? Where did you actually get this information?”
Brucille was finally aware of his slip of the tongue. Uncle Evan had never made that news public. Therefore, no outsiders knew of it.
He explained, “One of my friends is working in the Oceanic Group. That’s a rumour going on among the employees in the company. I don’t know whether it is true or not.”
After that, he rushed into the bathroom. He almost spilled the beans and exposed his original identity.
Thankfully, Tyrion wasn’t aware about it, so he was very safe.
Benedict finally had control over the Oceanic Group. However, Brucille knew that Uncle Evan owned more than 43. 7% of the shares in Oceanic Group, which definitely made him the largest shareholder of the company.
While Benedict only had less than 5% of the shares, if he also had Uncle Evan’s shares, the Oceanic Group would practically be his.
Brucille clenched his fists. He still remembered clearly his Uncle Evan’s kind face before he died. He was a respectable old man, and he died at home.
He didn’t believe that the reason for Uncle Evan’s death was a heart attack. After all, Uncle Evan himself was a medicine practitioner and was always in good health. What kind of heart disease did he have?
All of it seemed to be part of a bigger plot. He looked at himself in the mirror and firmly resolved to find the truth.
When Brucille went to the living room again, the TV was broadcasting the latest news about the stock market. The international market boomed overnight with three indices in green, indicating gains. The stocks of the world’s top 500 pharmaceutical company, TSG, had soared up by a whopping 33%. It was due to the rumors in the market that the companies had developed the latest anti-cancer drug, which could cure several types of cancers.
Elsewhere, there were two dark circles under Leslie’s eyes as he didn’t rest for the whole night.
After all, the gains of 33% by TSG, a pharmaceutical company, had resulted in the rise of the entire international stock market. The words Brucille had said the previous day were exactly as what had just happened.
As an elite financial analyst, he was familiar with the market trends. He was also well aware that the international investors were a lot more rational. Before any official announcement in the market, no one would invest so much money in one enterprise.
Lying on the couch in the villa, his assistant handed him a cup of coffee and enquired softly, “Boss, are you alright? We don’t have any international shareholdings at the moment. Why are you suddenly so interested?”
“Oh, it’s nothing. I was just looking up the trends of the international shares to prepare for today’s morning market. Now, go do your work.”
Leslie was not only a financial analyst, but also a personal financial consultant to a tycoon with billions worth of assets. He knew too well what the green numbers of the international stock market meant for him.
Therefore, he bitterly picked up the phone to dial a particular number he dreaded to call.
Right after the financial segment of the news was broadcasted, his Brucille’s cell phone rang in his room. He went to answer the call.
“Hello!” said Brucille into the phone.
“Hello, Mr. Yip. This is Leslie. I’m sorry for disturbing you in the morning. I want to treat you to a feast and also consult you on something…”
“Let’s just forget it,” interrupted Brucille. “My stomach has been unwell recently. Eating too much is bad for my stomach, so let’s talk about it at a later date. Bye!”
Before Leslie could finish his words, Brucille had already hung up.
