Chapter 13 White Cranes As Grave Goods

Kelvin had already been a little offended. After all, why did that insignificant doctor need the director of the hospital to pick him up? Now, knowing that he’s even not an actual doctor, Kelvin was livid.
However, he had no other choice. Staring at Brucille, he said quietly, “Mr. Yip, thank you. There’ll be a reward for you when this is over.”
“It doesn’t matter. I’m not doing this for your money.”
With that, Brucille turned around and headed straight into the emergency room. At the moment, Pedro was twitching continuously. Foam began to form at his mouth.
He instructed quickly, “Hey, can some of you please take off Pedro’s shirt. When you’re done with that, hold his hands and feet. Hurry…”
In a turn of events, the chief physicians were operating like nurses in the room. They would do whatever Brucille ordered them to do. Brucille performed the Seven Start Acupuncture Skill once again. He even massaged a few acupuncture points to enhance the energy flow.
He conducted the whole process in an easy and tranquil manner. It didn’t give the impression that he was trying to save someone’s life at all.
After a few minutes, Pedro’s condition finally stabilized. The clothes of the attending doctors were drenched in sweat. However, it wasn’t due to their fatigue, but rather they were terrified of Kelvin.
The storm finally passed. When Pedro finally regained consciousness, he was transferred to the VIP ward.
Brucille, Kelvin, Donald and others waited in the room.
Seeing Brucille again, Pedro was particularly fond of him. “Bruce, I wanted to thank you after you saved me the last time. Who knew you would save me again this time!”
“Pedro, you were previously affected by evil Qi,” Brucille informed. “It is the same this time. I need to know, are you staying in a house or do you live in a cemetery?”
Donald jumped in fright when he said that. Nevertheless, he didn’t dare to criticize Brucille because he was not qualified to do so. Back at Tyrion’s house, he had almost kneeled down in front of him to plead with him for help.
Kelvin’s eyes grew red with anger as he glared at Brucille. Was he cursing his father?
Just as he was about to scold him, Pedro waved him off, signaling him to keep quiet.
Pedro maintained his kind demeanor towards Brucille as he answered, “I don’t understand what you mean, Bruce. I’m staying not far from the community clinic where your wife works. It’s an old courtyard.”
Brucille did not bother to ask more. Instead, he cut to the chase. “At your age, Mr. Pedro, you should stay in bright places where there is a lot of sunshine. Gloomy places will affect your aura and energy. You should understand what I mean, right?”
Kelvin couldn’t stop himself anymore. He interjected, “Mr. Yip, just get straight to the point. You don’t need to be mysterious about it.”
“Okay, I shall not beat around the bush then. Judging from your father’s condition for the past two occasions, I suspect that there is something sinister in your house. If you don’t resolve it soon, I’m afraid your father won’t be that lucky next time. He is old and can’t withstand such torments.”
There was no way to refute Brucille’s statement. Pedro’s body was getting worse each year despite his sturdy appearance.
In fact, he would be hospitalized at least once each year, and his body was not as good as before.
Sorrow was etched on Pedro’s face as he queried, “What is this sinister thing you’re talking about? Can I trouble you to go to my residence and take a look? Just treat it as helping an old man to live a little longer.”
Seeing that Pedro was in pain, Brucille agreed reluctantly. Then, they headed out to the old courtyard in a limousine.
The lights in the courtyard were dim. It was decorated with elegant flowers of many colors. The interior decorations were also very exquisite. While it did not seem extravagant, Brucille could see that every piece of furniture was made of top-grade mahogany.
After entering the house, he did not hesitate further. Relying on his gut feelings, he paced about before finally arriving at the master bedroom, which was locked.
“Do you sleep here, Mr. Pedro?”
“That’s right. Is there anything wrong?”
“Have you never felt that this room is particularly cold, Mr. Pedro? I think you must find it hard to sleep at night. There’s something wrong with the atmosphere here.”
Brucille stared at a pair of white cranes in front of him. The white crane was a gesture and symbol of longevity. It must be a gift from someone.
Kelvin explained, “This pair of white cranes was a gift from a friend for my father’s 60th birthday.”
“That’s the problem. These white cranes weren’t made recently. From my estimate, they are more than 300 years old. These are grave goods for rich people after their deaths. You can argue that it is an antique, but it radiates bad energy.”
“If it’s placed in an ordinary person’s room, such as yours, Mr. Ann, it may have no effect. But it will have a great impact on Mr. Pedro. Try to recall. Did your health become worse after receiving this gift?”
The white cranes looked delicate and intricate. Therefore, Pedro loved them a lot. He never wanted to let them go. However, recalling his memories, Pedro found his words to be true. He was terrified when he thought about it carefully.
“That’s right. I used to place them in the study room. It was only recently that I have brought them back here to my hometown. I didn’t expect it to have such impact, should I throw them away?”
Brucille shook his head. “That’s not necessary. These are priceless. Find a box made of peach wood, put them inside and never take them out.”
Pedro didn’t expect that at such a young age, Brucille would know so much. It was amazing that he could tell that those white cranes were ancient.
“Thank you so much, Bruce. Kelvin, get someone to put these things away immediately.”
“You’re welcome,” said Brucille. “Since you have recovered, and the matter has been solved now, I shall leave to take my rest.”
Pedro shot Kelvin a wink. At his cue, Kelvin brought over a suitcase, explaining, “I apologize for what happened in the hospital. Here is half a million as your reward.”
Pedro chuckled and added, “This is a token of my gratitude, Bruce. You have saved me twice. If you don’t take anything, how can I sleep at night?”
Since Pedro had put it like that, Brucille would seem too pretentious if he did not accept it. Hence, he accepted it happily.
He intended to see if Monique was already at work at the moment.
However, he soon remembered that Monique would be reporting at the hospital. It was her first day there. Therefore, he took a cab and headed home instead.
Kelvin grumbled unhappily, “Dad, you gave him five hundred thousand just for him to poke you with a few needles. Our money doesn’t grow on trees.”
“Do you think this young man an ordinary doctor? A timid son-in-law?” Pedro questioned.
“I don’t think so. I think he’s more like a charlatan. What was the talk about evil and sinister? He actually made it sound real.”
Pedro glared at his son. “You should appreciate others’ strengths. You are into antiques yourself. Can you tell the ages of these white cranes at a glance, and where are they from?”
