Nicola
Fury coursed through my body like a river. It was only natural for Mathew to look for me. If my closest friend had been in charge, she never would have let me run away from my family. Even though he was aware of how much I detested it, I was conscious of the fact that it had been very self-centered of me to leave him in that torment.
Although he would never publicly confess it, he had the same feelings of animosity for our mafia way of life that I did. I had known him for a sufficient amount of time to be able to see that his icy demeanor served as a barrier between him and his more unstable feelings. The rough aspects of his personality masked a grief that was buried so deeply that he would never reveal it in public, maybe not even to himself.
Even while I couldn’t bring myself to hate him, I could become quite angry at him for preventing me from escaping.
“What gave you the idea to go after me?” When we passed beyond the circle of light cast by the streetlight, I raised my voice and demanded an answer. “You are aware that I want to go. Why would you choose to treat me like this? ”
“I didn’t want to leave the less complicated life that I’d established for myself at Nevada. I didn’t want to give up on Emily and the strong connection that we had built up between us. My feelings for her were so strong that they verged on obsession, and there was so much more about her that I wanted to find out. ”
Mathew mumbled something under his breath while folding his arms over his chest and said, “You know I couldn’t let you go.”
“It seems like there’s going to be a fight in our family. The level of tension is at an all-time high. It is not possible for Castin’s kid to just vanish. You are well aware that your father will succeed the don as soon as the latter dies away, which might happen at any moment now. It is unclear why you ghosted, but it seems fishy. If you understand what I mean, I’m thinking that maybe you didn’t go of your own volition. You might have been fucked dead, Nicola. It could have happened. ” His tone became more harsh. His tough exterior was on the verge of crumbling, which revealed how much he was concerned about my well-being.
“Then you phoned me.” “Because the call provided me with the area code, I was able to focus my investigation. At least I was aware that you were still alive. Do you have any idea what-” He abruptly stopped speaking while shaking his head firmly. “You have no choice but to accompany me. If you don’t do it, things are going to turn violent and bloody. Do you want for a power struggle to result in the death of your father?”
My stomach dropped. I hadn’t given the possible repercussions of my absence a lot of consideration until it was too late. Despite the fact that I detested that existence and the terrible environment into which I had been born, I did not want for my father to pass away.
I responded in a low voice, “No.” “Of course not. But I’m afraid I won’t be able to accompany you. I can’t.”
He said in a stern tone, “Yes, you can.” “You simply don’t want to. But you have obligations, Nicola. It doesn’t matter if you don’t want them; it doesn’t mean you won’t carry them with you. ”
He looked at me for a little period of time before tilting his head to the side and stunning me with his very dark stare. He came to the conclusion, looking right through me, and said, “You don’t want to leave her.” He stated it in a softer tone this time, but “You know you can’t remain around her.” “If I’m able to locate you, then anybody can. It’s just a question of time at this point. Do you truly want your grandfather’s adversaries to have access to her? ”
My hands were balled up at my sides as a new wave of wrath washed over me. I snarled, “No,” an emphatic rejection of the concept that Emily was in discomfort while being used as a weapon against me.
“Let’s go home together,” he pleaded . “There is no other option for you. No, if you really want to keep her safe. No, if you value your relationship with your father. And I,” he added as an afterthought, as if my presence were of little importance.
I wouldn’t put Matthew in danger. It was impossible for the guy who was like a brother to me to suffer as a result of the decisions I made for myself. I’d die before I let it happen.
As the feeling of despair washed over me, my shoulders dropped. All of my silly hopes and ambitions of leading a regular life with my ideal angel were dashed to pieces. Emily was going to be one of the people I had to abandon.
Mathew
After One Whole Month
My choice was careless and more than a little bit selfish at the same time. I had convinced myself that I was acting in Emily’s best interest by keeping her concealed from any of our adversaries who may learn of her existence.
But the fact of the matter is that I was doing this for Nicola. Since we had returned to Lasvagas together, he had become a shadow of his former self. I was aware that it had more to do with him hating the violent lifestyle we led than it did with his grief over the loss of Emily. Because he had found joy in their relationship, his separation from her was giving him an internal torment.
I just couldn’t bring myself to let my surrogate brother go through that.
I gave Ella the briefest of glances. In the apartment that she and Emily shared, the brunette was seen dozing off peacefully on the sofa. It hadn’t been that challenging to seduce her. The process of putting a roofie in her drink had been absurdly simple, and as a result, I had been extended an offer to return to her apartment. I had to get her permission to enter, but I would never do anything to hurt her. She was only a means to an end, and the worst thing that would happen to her is that she’d wake up with a splitting headache and almost no recollection of having spent any time at all with me.
