As Amelia sashayed her way through the eerie wilderness in hope of reaching the mountain in time, she discovered that it wasn’t as close as she had visualized it to be. She had been running towards it for over five minutes, till she began to jug towards it and eventually resulted to walking since it was all her energy level could afford her. Strapped to her wrists was the Rolex watch she had been compelled to take back from Maximin. She wanted to know what time it was and how long she had been running for her life.
” Damn it. It’s altered.” She winced after finding the pendulums bent and disgruntled even though they still obeyed the commands of motion. She couldn’t tell what time it was. A minute perhaps was all she needed to catch her breath and start to run again. She couldn’t help but think something bad was going to happen to Maximin who was injured and alone in the wilderness. She was alone to but thanks to him, no grave injury had come to her, just some scratches which didn’t seem to have an effect on her till now. There was a small cut on her ankle which was bent on slowing her down. In as much as she tried to negate it’s pain, she found herself clutching on it occasionally to ascertain why it was so little, yet birthed so much hurt. Another five minutes of a randy and tired walk on the path to redemption, she felt too tired to keep walking and was dogged in willpower to keep doing so, she found herself on the floor seeing nothing but stars until some seconds later when her sight was restored from resting.
” Oh goodness she winced and shrugged backwards from the giant tarantula that was creeping on her leg.
” Get away! She” she exclaimed in fear as she scampered backwards, using her palms to propel her away from the confused arachnid which seemed to be lost or something. It seemed to help her get her mojo together as she sprung up and was quick to begin her journey. She felt malaise not by sickness but by another phenomenon which she couldn’t quite pinpoint till she came across an Huckleberry tree. ” Breakfast” her sentient called out causing her to rush to the base of the tree and began to pick up the fallen berries, throwing them into her mouth with so much speed. She had been so hungry but was too occupied with her quest for survival that she forgot about food. After ingesting many bunches of the acidic Berry in her system. She felt a bit of refreshment, owing chiefly to the sugar and water content in them.
” Oh God, Maximin. You will need some of this to.”. She muttered and quickly fetched a handful of the berries since she had no bag or pocket to keep it. One more deep breath and she began to run towards the mountain which seemed to appear more closer in the meadow. The race was going according to plan when it was interrupted by a familiar growl that sent her off balance till she stumbled over the green bushes.
” Wrath?” She whispered in shock, wondering how the beast from her hood had strolled this far. Still on the floor, she slowly raised her head up to see what it was that had made such a beastly growl.
” My God.” She muttered again and quickly bowed her head to the floor.
” Wrath perhaps was always a toddler bear as the giant she was seeing some feet away from her was twice as big and twice as tall as Wrath. It was a beast of ages and she had no doubt that it was out for a pound of flesh.
Lying on the floor and praying for it to leave wasn’t going to work for her and she knew it cause she was part and parcel of the jungle. To live she had to make a run for it and hope she outsmarted it or once again hope a hero was going to save her. She could here it sniffing vigorously and soon, it’s enormous footsteps were sauntering towards her. It was all the motivation she needed to start moving. With a sprint for survival, she stood up and leapt away letting most of the berries in her hands fly. The beast was quick to see her and didn’t waste a second to begin it’s assault on her. Growing up in the jungle meant she had developed some survival Instincts to help her wade off certain attacks. She knew bears were faster than humans on a vertical scale but didn’t do to well while running in laterals curves. As she ran in curves, she realized the mountain was no longer in sight and the beast was only making her to run back to where she had walked from.
” Damn it!” She cried out and made a U turn, till she could see the mountains all over again. The bear kept on thundering it’s way towards her and she couldn’t help but scream in fear of being devoured for nothing. She couldn’t face a grizzly in a fight neither could she evade it by climbing a tree. The end was precise but the means to it wasn’t. If it caught up with her and tore her to pieces, fine. If her heart passed out as she ran and died before it could lay hands on her, good and fine. She accepted both outcomes but was glad to put up a fight and not giving in to its murderous claws without running for her life. As she ran, the taunting growls of the giant bear was so close to her that she could swear its mouth was over her ears. She had managed to give it a little pace just because she had been running in a lateral progression. Now she was tired and her speed was no longer sufficient to save her. If she didn’t receive a miracle. She was going to die.
” Maximin! Help me” She screamed out in a desperate plea for help. It wasn’t forthcoming. She felt the biggest blow ever against her thighs, catapulting her sideways into the vast thick bushes. Causing her to roll vigorously across the uneven plains of the bush and bashing her head, back and arms against the rocky debris before finally crashing against the base of a tree stem with minimal velocity. She was dazed off consciousness and could only cough out the blood from her nose which was finding it’s ways into her throat. Like a dream, she could see the beast, gaining towards her with the majesty of a lion.
“She opened her mouth and tried to speak, perhaps to beg the beast to let an orphan be but couldn’t even find the control of her lips. She was immobile and without pain. Indifferent to life and death_ she simply existed at the mercy of time. Soon the bear was standing before her and with it’s hand crashing towards her face, she passed out leaving the rest of the story for time to tell.
