A bumpy ride on the shoulders of a man who had furiously attacked her just some hours ago, didn’t go down well with her. He had only paused to hand over his shirt to her, which she was quick to wear to cover up her girly regions since he was tall and she wasn’t. It made the shirt fall over her thighs. For all she cared he also had plans on taking her live again. Her palms were cupped over her face to wade off the thorns and tree branches that splashed against her as he ran through them. From the muffled breath of her carrier, she could tell that all wasn’t well with him and soon, he stopped galloping like a horse, and began to run, and then to walk till he staggered around and plummeted knee first to the ground, making sure the cargo on his shoulder didn’t encounter any harm even though the impact had sent her rolling against the uneven terrains of the woods. Free off his shackles, she was caught in a frenzy of confusion on what next to do. Instinctively she felt a need for her safety and found herself running away into the woods. A few seconds into her act and the soft epistle of womanhood was quick to elope her mind. The thoughts of letting a man die was alien to her and it brought her glued to her feet. In as much as she tried to imbibe a selfish decision, Her will of selflessness was persisting till she eventually gave into it and hurried back to the restless being lying and bleeding profusely on the floor.
” Maximin. Are you okay?” She muttered from a safe distance, as her eyes were eloped with fear. He managed to turn his gaze at her but didn’t say a word. ” You tried to kill me. All I did was save your life. Why?” She silvered, while trembling in fear of the unknown. It wasn’t yet clear to her if it was safe to go any closer than she did.
” You were leaving. You should go if that’s your choice.” He stuttered in a depressed tone of sadness.
” Would I have waited for you to snap my neck in two? Ever since I saved your life, I have lost my house, loosed my freedom and almost lost my life.” She quavered. Just then her sight fell on the Rolex watch he had gifted her. ” And what has it brought me apart from woes?” She winced, before taking it off her wrist. Her words had ignited a sense of guilt in the sentient of Maximin. Indeed her tantrums were worth it and he knew he was to be blamed for it. He also knew that she really didn’t stand any chance of surviving the woods if he wasn’t with her.
” I’m sorry. I will make it up to you if make it out alive.” He said as he managed to sit up, breathing heavily while he did.
” Here is your watch. Thank you but I can’t have it anymore.” She said, moved backwards away from him and contemplated on taking the watch over to his side ” Here you are.” She intoned, flipping the watch over to him while maintaining her distance from his proximity. It fell on his chest just beside the bleeding gash and he gripped it before it could touch the ground.
” Well this isn’t my watch. The screen of my Rolex wasn’t broken was it?” He implied and gradually stood up in accordance to his energy level. She shifted backwards in fear, not knowing if to run or pray for a merciful ending.
” That’s your watch. It probably got broken when I was attacked because of you.” She said, narrowing her gaze on his eyes to see if he was really mad or just in pain.
” The screen is not just glass. It’s made of Diamonds and I want it back. ” since you are wealthy enough to return the watch to me, be wealthy enough to return it as it was given.” Maximin said as he examined the well being of the watch. His disposition left her speechless as she had no money to pay for the supposed Diamond glass.
” Well then what are you waiting for. I want my watch intact..” He groaned.
” Give it back to me. I will keep it. It’s mine after all. You gifted it to me.” Said Amelia after having a quick rethink of the situation. ” And now you’ve returned it back to me. It’s now mine, but I want it fixed and returned.” Maximin intoned with a frown and flipped the titanium watch towards her.
” Damn you. Just who do you think you are. My house, my clothes and everything I got all broken and distorted. Who would pay for those? You perhaps” “. You can’t hold me ransom for a damn wristwatch which has brought nothing but misfortune to me! She said and stamped her foot while her hands clutched in a fist. Her reactions sent Maximin to a standstill, for a second or two, he went numb in empathy as he empathized with her predicaments.
” Me. I will pay for them. Let’s keep moving. Gallagher’s men would soon be here.” He said clutching tightly to his bloody laceration and looking rather spent of energy.
” I don’t need anything from you. I just want my old life back. I was happy and free. Yes very poor but very happy and free. Leave me alone young man. Go!” She yelled out but never took her eyes of the messy nature of his injury. Her words said one thing while her body language said another.
” Stop acting cold. It doesn’t fit you. Now move he said and sniffed around in quick successions while he hawked the horizons
” You won’t tell me what to…”
” Move! Now” he echoed, cutting short the child’s play and doing what tough dudes dis. His valor made her tremor and she could feel her spine brim from the intensity of his yell. He sounded like how the god of thunder should sound causing her to heed quickly to his orders almost running on her heels in fear. Having realized he had caused her yet again another deal of shock. He flexed his lips and stretched his hands forward, watching her walk quickly away from him. There was an innate urge in him to perhaps apologize to her or give her a dose or two of the petting she deserved. ” There’s no time.” He whispered innately till it was slightly heard by her. She was broken, scared and threatened. For all she cared, the worse days of her life was upon her and she could do nothing about it. As she moved she could here his undaunted footsteps splattering around as it struggled to keep him on track. In the past he had been incised by the teeth’s of a shark and had been diced almost in two after being involved in a fatal accident but none of the fatal injuries had given him so much trouble than this gash across his chest. He wondered why the wound had no signs of healing after about two days of it’s inception. He was still battling with pain of the injury, the dizziness in his head and the tiredness in his bone when he felt an absence of conscience. Amelia, had progressed a couple of steps without hearing those of her supposed captor and decided to turn around to see what had provoked the silence.
