Chapter 103: Cover Up the Truth

Book:The Counterattack of the Princess Published:2024-6-2

As for the reason for murdering Bai Yiyi, she related that it was because Bai Yiyi was seemingly good to her in front of people, but in fact, she treated her harshly, sometimes Bai even beat her bitterly in private. Hong’ye couldn’t bear it anymore, so she poisoned her.
She ran away the day before because she wanted to see her family for the last time. Hong’ye said that she knew her guilt was inexcusable, so she would no longer beg for forgiveness. In fact, she had no regrets in her heart.
After seeing her family, Hong’ye felt unconscionable. She knew that it might bring disaster to her family if she continued to escape so she chose to commit suicide and left this letter to explain everything.
At the end of the letter, Hong’ye even mentioned Yan Ling and said that she felt very sorry for involving Yan Ling in this matter for what she had done. She hoped that Yan Ling could forgive her after her death.
The content of this letter doesn’t seem to have any problems. Even Yan Ling involuntarily believes in its content after reading and introspects that if she has been too suspicious.
But soon Yan Ling realizes that something is wrong. It happened too suddenly, leaving them totally unprepared.
Yan Ling cannot be sure of her ideas, so she turns to Liang He who is standing aside. Liang He has the same reaction as Yan Ling. He thinks that Hong’ye’s death is too sudden and there must be something unknown about it.
Bai Yiyi is arrogant and willful, which she didn’t bother to hide. She didn’t have to be nice to someone in front of people, but secretly torture her in private, not to mention that person is her only chamber maid.
It’s as easy as ABC if Bai Yiyi, a lady, wanted to kill a maid. Why did she have to keep Hong’ye by her side to take care of her, and even let her manage such important matter as her herbal soup?
What Bai Yiyi did fully reflected her trust in Hong’ye, which is one of the loopholes. In addition, there is no way to explain the secret tunnel in Hong’ye room.
If Hong’ye is really just a common maid, then why is there a secret tunnel in her room?
It would be too far-fetched to say that Hong’ye had planned for a long time and spent a lot of time digging out a tunnel in her own room without being noticed by others. Such explanation is far too unconvincing.
Even if Hong’ye really had such a plan, she was just a little maid, how could she be capable of doing that? Liang He and Yan Ling don’t at all believe that she had no help from others.
But in the final analysis, these are only their guess or speculation. If they don’t have evidence to prove it, everything will be just nonsense. Compared with Hong’ye’s well-established confession, their speculation has no sufficient grounds.
“It’s not that simple. Should we go on with the investigation?” Yan Ling asks with a frown.
Liang He sighs helplessly and says, “I really want to continue the investigation. But once this letter is revealed, it will not be possible. ”
Yan Ling understands that and immediately replies, “Before finding out the truth, we can keep a secret of this letter without the others’ knowledge. It won’t be late to present all the things together after we find some favorable clues.”
How can Liang He not understand the things Yan Ling mentions? However, under the present circumstances, Liang He can only shake his head and smile bitterly.
There is a little helplessness in Liang He’s tone and expression. After all, he says with a bitter smile, “It is not we who first found the corpse of Hong’ye. It was Imperial Censor Bai’s subordinates who brought the corpse and the letter to me. They must have known about the content of the letter. I’m afraid that we cannot keep it concealed.”
Yan Ling didn’t expect such results, so she asks wonderingly,”Didn’t Imperial Censor Bai intend not to interfere this case? He didn’t come to see us when we were at his house yesterday. How could he suddenly get involved in this? ”
Liang He’s face turns a little gloomy and says with a little anger in his voice, “Imperial Censor Bai said that he was too sorrowful to meet us yesterday because of his daughter’s death. But by the end of the night, he had calmed down and was ready to turn grief into strength. As soon as he heard that we had found some clues, he immediately sent people to search together.”
Yan Ling could not help getting angry when she hears this. Although his reason is high-sounding, Yan Ling can’t believe that Imperial Censor Bai, one of the most powerful officials, would be so sad because of the death of an insignificant daughter to him as not to be able to meet people.
In the same way, the conclusion can be drawn that there must be some other particular reasons for Imperial Censor Bai to take such great efforts to find Hong’ye.
Liang He’s subordinates are not useless. Then why did Imperial Censor Bai’s men, who started off later, find Hong’ye first? And what they found was only her corpse.
There seems to be no connection, but when you think about it carefully, you will find it shocking by sight. It is true that Hong’ye died from suicide, but whether she was willing to commit suicide is questionable.
Even though she did kill herself, there might be someone else who was involved and forced her to do so. At first, Yan Ling couldn’t figure out why Hong’ye had killed herself. Now she knows it’s not suicidal. It was Imperial Censor Bai who forced Hong’ye to die.
Imperial Censor Bai must have his own purpose to do this. Only the dead can keep the secret. So what secret does Imperial Censor Bai want to hide by forcing Hong’ye to die?
Liang He naturally sees that Yan Ling subconsciously regards Imperial Censor Bai as the real culprit behind and can’t help feeling funny.
Shaking his head helplessly, Liang He looks at Yan Ling and says, “Like I said, I think Imperial Censor Bai might not be the person who knows about everything. He is anxious to kill Hong’ye because he was afraid that we would take advantage of Hong’ye and shift the blame to him.”
Hearing this, Yan Ling comes to understand that the truth is actually so simple and she has always kept the prejudice against Imperial Censor Bai.
Indeed, this is perhaps the most reasonable explanation. After all, Imperial Censor Bai had intended to frame Yan Ling in front of the Emperor. Now, if Yan Ling and Liang He found the real murderer, they might take advantage of it and give a heavy blow to him.
After so many years of being a government official, Imperial Censor Bai knows the principle of nipping in the bud. He must know clearly that there must be someone else behind Hong’ye.
If that person was from his mansion, he would deal with him/her himself. But if he/she was not, it surely would be a different matter.
