He woke up to find himself in the waiting room. He was tired from the adrenaline rush and fell asleep while he waited. Gerrick Finlay approached him, Gabriel’s lawyer had been the busiest man in the city after the incident. He briefed Perry of the urgency to keep all information under wraps. The case has been taken over by the police and everyone involved will be signed under a confidentiality agreement.
Perry didn’t care about any of that, he just wanted to know what’s going on with Jamie and Gabriel.
“They’re okay … Gabriel had undergone surgery, he survived the critical phase … the bullet had been taken out of his body and given to the police for ballistic evidence … he’s still under anesthesia in the ICU and Jamie …” Gerrick smiled, “She insisted to stay in there with him … we had to get a special clearance for her to be there … she’s fine too.”
Perry let out an exhale, “Thank you … I’ll just wait for her here.”

Jamie sat on the chair beside his bed. The doctor had ordered her to stay on her bed but she wouldn’t listen. Her head was still light from all the blood they took for Gabriel.
A glimpse of Eddie flashed in her mind. She had been shedding tears for almost all her waking hours. The man who can give her the ease she needed was lying unconscious in front of her.
She took his hand, rubbed his soft fingers and kissed them. She remembered what he said in the car before he fainted, “Everything.” They were complete strangers less than a year before. How strange it was, the things that happened in between had changed them to “Everything.” He was her everything too, if only she had told him that before.
She wiped the tears on her cheek and then she felt his fingers moved, he was trying to hold her hand. She looked at his face, there were motions on his eyelids. Then his light brown eyes opened.
It took a while to adjust and grasped where he was, the only familiar thing was how she felt in his hand. When his visions finally cleared, he was greeted by her smile. Her tired face brought joy to his barely conscious mind.
She was lost for words. She was smiling and crying at the same time. She smothered him with her kisses all over his face. He could even taste her tears. He caught her lips, tenderly, he kissed her with whatever strength he had in him.
“I thought I’d lost you … you scared me …” she whispered.
He touched her cheek, “You saved me.”
Then they were silently looking at each other, they had saved each other in more ways than one.
“I’m sorry about Eddie,” he said.
She pursed her lips, “I’m sorry too.”
Despite what Eddie had done, she was grieving for him nonetheless.
“It’s a mess … the police were here … they’re going to ask a lot of questions,” she told him.
He inhaled deeply and grimaced, he glanced at the place where it hurts, “It’s gonna be fine … I’ll take care of it.”
She never knew what it really meant when he said that, but he always took care of things. “Don’t move so much, you were badly wounded.”
He scoffed and grimaced again, “I’ve been through worse … believe me,” and smiled.
Doctor Blake came in and interrupted them. He looked as relieved as Jamie felt. “Good to have you back, Gabriel,” he greeted with a wide smile.
“Hey, Doctor … I’m sure you had a lot to do with that … thank you,” he replied, still holding Jamie’s hand.
“Oh don’t thank me, I’m just doing my job … Ms. Knox was a huge help … you have 3 litres of her blood running in your veins as we speak,” he said.
Gebriel looked at Jamie and squeezed her hand, she had literally saved his life twice.
“I’m gonna leave you with the good doctor here for a while … Perry’s outside waiting for news,” she kissed him, “I’ll be back.”
The look on Gabriel’s eyes when he was looking at her made Dr. Blake blushed and hid his smile.

“He’s going to be fine,” she said to Perry and fell heavy in his arms.
As if the storm had passed and she was coming home to his embrace. She laid on his lap at the waiting room and told him everything that had happened scene by scene.
Eddie’s tragic end will haunt her for a very long time. She never thought something like that could ever happen in her life. The thought of having to explain everything to the police was weighing in her mind. As Perry stroked her hair, she fell asleep on his lap, finally at peace.
“You’re going to be fine too,” Perry said.
The police never requested a statement from her, nor was she questioned about the whole ordeal by the law enforcement.
Billionaire Eduard Payne committed suicide in his home allegedly in connection with his recent case of statutory rape of a minor that was filed a few weeks prior to his death. That was the news. A huge one too. There was nothing about her kidnaping, her name was never mentioned even though she was his ex-wife. And absolutely nothing about Richard Gabriel Love.
That was how Gabriel took care of things, and he did it all from his hospital bed as he was recovering from his wound. There was nothing he couldn’t make possible, his money was his super power. She wondered what else had he made possible all these times. That part of him was still a big mystery and perhaps it shall remain that way.
She loved him. There was no turning back for her. She fell hard for that mystery man and she will make it her goal to be the one that will uncover it. She now knows what she really wants. She wanted to be the only one who loves him more than anyone.
