She looked at the barrel of the gun in horror, she laid back on the chair and raised both hands in front of her. There’s no way of telling what he was going to do next. If he was going to shoot her, all she could do was to stall him while she figured out a way to escape her situation.
“Eddie … please, calm down, can you just tell me what’s going on? I promise I will try my best to help you,” she said calmly.
“You had your chance to help me when I first came to you, Jamie! But did you? Huh?” he stood up still pointing the gun at her.
“I’m sorry … I’m sorry … I couldn’t help you then, there was no way I could’ve helped you then, I didn’t know anything about the tapes … but I will try and help you now … if you tell me what the problem is,” she crouched on the armchair looking away from the gun that was so close to her face.
Eddie started to pace back and forth, swung his gun every which way. “He promised not to leak my video … he lied!” he screamed at her.
Oh my God, she muttered inside, it was worse than she thought. “What? What happened?”
“He’s the only one who has those tapes, and he’s a fucking liar! I’ve lost over a quarter of a billion dollars for the divorce and he went ahead and leaked my video anyway! I knew he was a sneaky bastard … he wanted to run me down and you! You gave him a good reason for it!” he came over her and pressed the gun to her head.
She closed her eyes and felt the cold metal hard against her temple, “Wait … wait … maybe I can persuade him to retrieve the video back … can we talk about this calmly? I can think better without a gun to my head, please … Eddie,” her heart was raising hell, she could only hope the gun was not going to accidentally blow up on her head.
“It’s too late! Because do you know where he leaked the video to, Jamie? Your precious fucking boyfriend!” he put his hand around her neck and pushed her to the chair. “He leaked it to one of the girl’s parents … to her dad! Who happens to be the Attorney General Robert Blakely,” his face turned red when he said it. His eyes filled with hate, he trembled.
For a split second, Jamie was sure he was going to pull the trigger or choke her to death. But he let go. He sat on the chair next to her, he tried to control his breath.
“Oh, Eddie …” she was lost for words.
He shook his head, the gun still clutched in his hand. “Statutory rape … that’s if I’m lucky enough not to get gun down by an assassin on my way to work …” he kicked a chair so hard it flung in the air and broke when it landed. “I can’t eat … I can’t sleep … I have to hire additional securities and this … gun!” he waved it to her face. “Because God knows what Robert Blakely is planning to do to me now that he knows I was fucking his youngest daughter! Fuck!”
Jamie tried to wrap her mind around it. It seemed like there was no way out of that mess for Eddie, which left her defenseless against his rage and his new toy. She had to think fast.
“Okay … I think I can ask Gabriel to get leniency on your charge … I’m sure he knows people to help you out.”
“He’s the one who put me in this mess in the first place, how is he going to help me? Bribe an angry father not to put me in jail? Do you know what they’ll do to me once I’m in there, Jamie? Do you?” he cut her off.
“You’ll have to do your part too, Eddie, grovel … get down on your knees if you have to … ask for forgiveness, marry his daughter … or otherwise I don’t see how you can get out of this.”
“She’s 15 years old!”
It just got worse and worse, Jamie was losing hope if she was going to be able to get out of that house alive.
“I’m not going to jail for this … I won’t! Or you and your boyfriend will have to pay for it! Money is pouring like water … By the time the trial is over I won’t have anything left under my name, even that won’t save me from jail sentence … it’s over for me.”
The more he talked about it, the more desperate he became. It scared her even more.
“If it’s money you need, I can ask Gabriel to help you out … I’m sure with more funds, you can get a better deal … please, Eddie … nothing good can come out by hurting me … I won’t tell anyone about this … okay? If you let me go and let me speak to Gabriel … we’ll figure something out, you don’t have to commit another crime to get away from the other,” she tried her best to bring him to his senses.
“I’d rather die than to let his money save me now,” his face painted with malice. “Don’t you see Jamie? You’re not here because I wanted his money … you’re here because I want to hurt him as much as he had ruined me … without the baby … I guess you will have to do,” he pointed the gun at her again.
She knew this man well enough to believe him. It was exactly what he was going to do. She stared into his eyes, she couldn’t believe she was looking at her own demise to this man she once loved. There was no more love there, only hate, envy and desperation.
“What are you going to do to me, Eddie?” she took the courage to ask.
He bit his lower lip with a grimace, “I haven’t figured that out yet.”
“So … this is what it comes down to? After you’re done hurting me … what then? Will that give you solace? Will that solve your problem?”
“Nothing … can solve my problem, Jamie! So yeah … I’m hoping this will wipe that smirk on his smug face and show him who has the last laugh!”
Ego was what Eddie was all about, he hadn’t changed a bit, only gotten worse. It was the nail to her coffin. He hasn’t done anything yet, she could only hope she could buy some time and wriggle herself out of that mess.
There was a knock on the door that starlet the both of them. Eddie stood up beside her. “What?” he shouted.
The door opened slightly, one of his men peeked his head, “There’s someone here to see you.”
“Are you fucking serious? Tell them I’m not here you dumb ass!”
The door opened widely from a push. There he stood with his arms up and a gun to his head. His calming light brown eyes found hers, his expression didn’t give anything away. Always unreadable, always cold and unpredictable. He stood towering at the doorway not letting his eyes off of her. He was studying her, scanning every inch of her, he was making sure there was not a single scratch on her body.
