He was too clever, she thought. He always managed to lure her to the direction he wanted her to go and put her in a position where she couldn’t get out of. He had succeeded in getting her to sign all those agreements and now she was legally bound to oblige to the contract. It was like making a pact with the devil.
She found herself in a spot where she will have to go through a series of health tests as part of her work agreement with his company and in the tests she had to be tested for a kidney match with the devil himself. Which was not against the law, but she can’t tell anyone about it.
What if her kidney is a match? What then? Is he going to kill her? Make it look like an accident and get her kidney? No one is going to know about it. It would be a breach of contract if she backed out from the agreement.
“Shit!” she rubbed her face with both hands, sitting in a cold hospital bed in a hospital gown. She told Perry it was just a regular check-up, standard requirements to be part of the Love Inc. She had spent half the day to go through test after test, the kidney match test took longer than she thought.
Doctor Blake Wolf, Gabriel’s personal physician took the test himself, he was personally responsible for Gabriel’s blood sample to compare with Jamie’s. He did other procedures too which he explained in detail but her mind was somewhere else. She was occupied with what she was signing up to. She knew how these billionaires always get their way to get anything they want, and she was sure that Gabriel was going after her kidney if it’s a match.
She ended up spending almost the entire day at the hospital. She was asked to dress before the doctor came in to talk to her in private. She was already thinking about the stuff she still needed to pack before leaving for Bhorma in two days.
“Ms. Knox … thank you for waiting, I’m just going to briefly explain to you about the result,” the doctor came in with his chart. “Your overall health check is good, you are perfectly healthy and capable of performing work as required by Mr. Love’s company … no heavy labor, I’m sure,” he chuckled.
Jamie forced a smile, she was sitting on the edge of the hospital bed.
“You have a very rare blood type, I have to say I’m surprised … there are only 1% people in the world with AB- blood type … what are the odds? Mr. Love’s blood type is also AB-,” he grinned. “I thought you’d like to know that.”
She swallowed. What are the odds? She never knew anyone with the same blood type as her, it was a problem when she tried to conceive with Eddie because his blood type was B+.
“So that’s the information I will share with your company … As for the result of the kidney match, we won’t have it until one week from today and I will send it to you privately,” he continued.
She creased her brows, “The company will not receive that information as well?”
“Oh, no … Mr. Love requested that all kidney match test results should be private, if you are a match, then you have the liberty to choose whether you are willing to be a donor or not.”
She fell silent, here she thought Gabriel was going to murder her for her kidney. “Have you ever tested anyone from his company that was a match for him?”
He smiled, “I’m afraid that’s confidential, Ms. Knox, all I can say is that Mr. Love is looking for someone who is willing to donate a kidney, just in case … not that he’s in need of one urgently, his current kidneys are still functioning very well.”
Jamie was somewhat relieved.
“Anyways … it’s just a procedure, I’m sure you have other priorities at the moment and I bid you congratulations,” he was smiling widely.
She tilted her head to one side, “I’m sorry … I don’t follow.”
“You are pregnant, Ms. Knox, you might want to have it checked in Bhorma because we only find that out from the urine test … it’s still in a very early stage, you might not have even develop morning sickness yet, that’s why you didn’t know … so you might want to get a trusted OBGYN in Bhorma since you’re going to stay there for a year.”
A surge of chill went through her whole body, her brain froze. She took the doctor’s hand, “Doctor … please don’t let the company know about this, and Mr. Love, I would appreciate it if you keep this information private.”
“Of course, Ms. Knox, like I said, the only information shared to the company is the result they needed to confirm your health … other information stays classified.”
“Thank you … it’s just that … it’s a new job, you know? I don’t know how they’ll take the information and to be frank … it’s an unplanned pregnancy, so I’m still a bit shocked,” she scoffed even though she felt like she was about to hyperventilate.
Doctor Wolf smiled sympathetically, “I understand … I suggest you get a good OBGYN to check and consult for the best option in your situation,” he tapped her arm.
She nodded, “Thank you doctor.”
When the doctor left the room, she felt like the world had crumbled around her and she was suddenly sick and threw up in the sink.
**********
“Six weeks … I counted … God how could I not realize it? I haven’t had my period, I didn’t think anything of it, I thought it was just stress … I was feeling queasy all the time … oh God … what should I do?” she was ranting in tears, there was no way to console her.
“Calm down, let’s think about it for a moment, Jamie,” Perry was calming himself too.
“I’m leaving in two days … I have to find an OBGYN in Bhorma, and then what? Do I get an abortion? How is that going to work? What if he finds out? I can’t keep the baby … can I?”
“Do you want to keep the baby?”
“What? Is that even an option right now? I can’t have this baby, Perry, I can’t raise a baby on my own … why is this happening to me?” she covered her face with both hands, her mind was racing, she could barely contain her thoughts.
Perry took a deep breath, he was thinking hard, “Tell him.”
“What? No! It was a one night stand, Perry, what do you think he would say? He can’t know about this.”
“Why not? He has the right to know, don’t you think?”
“Because I don’t know how his reaction would be, and I’m scared, I don’t even know what he wants from me … he’s so … strange …”
Perry took her hand, “Jamie … tell him, if he doesn’t want the baby … then we’ll raise it together.”
She was taken aback with what Perry said, “What did you say?”
“I want the baby … please, Jamie, think about it, can you really go through an abortion knowing there’s a human life inside your tummy?”
The first thing that came to her mind when the doctor told her about the pregnancy was to get an abortion. But Perry was right, she didn’t have it in her, she would never kill her own child which was an image that quickly came to mind in only a matter of hours. There’s a growing human fetus inside her, and it was her own child.
“I mean … Jamie, I will never have that chance to have children of my own … well not in a conventional way, and this could be the answer for me, I can be a father to your baby, we can raise it together,” the look in Perry’s eyes melted her heart, he was pleading with his heart and soul. He meant every word he said.
She was speechless.
“What do you say? This could be the start of our family,” Perry was hopeful and his face was beaming. “But you have to tell him first … he has the right to know … I can only hope that he doesn’t want it … and then I’ll be a dad,” he laughed softly, tears were falling on his cheeks.
She hugged him, she too was crying.
“It’s gonna be alright, babe, … everything’s gonna be fine, okay?” he assured her.
“I love you,” she said. She really did, she had always known their friendship was strong but what Perry just said to her had taken their bond to a whole new level.
“I love you, babe,” he kissed her temple.
