Get to know each other. What the hell did he mean by that? He practically had her whole life history printed out on paper and read them all over night. He already knew more than she did, he knew about Eduard. What else could he possibly want to know more about? And what for?
And that offer of fulfilling sexual needs? What the hell is wrong with that guy? Is it some kind of strategy to get her to bed without making it look like harassment? Not that she was even thinking about sleeping with him again at that point. As handsome as he was, Gabriel Love was as weird as it gets.
Maybe all that money and power had gotten into his head for too long. She knew how controlling billionaires can get, she was raised by one, and married one too. And now she’s dealing with another one who was going to invest in her good cause. Her stomach clenched as she processed the thought of letting another billionaire control her life once more.
“Fuck!” she muttered to herself. After all her roller coaster of running away from one billionaire to another, it almost seemed like she was running around in a cycle. Her family would have a field day if they knew she would be working for Gabriel Love. But she needed him, for her program and the possible long term prospect of her projects, also to be free from her old identity of being Mrs. Eduard Payne. Damn that man!
“Look at the bright side, you wouldn’t have known you’re still married to Eddie if it wasn’t for him,” Perry consoled her. “Imagine if you have to find out about it later when you’re getting married with someone or when you’re claiming an insurance policy,” he emphasized his point. He was right, again.
“That’s true, but now he thinks I’m a cheat, an adultress, a traitor to my family … I don’t like the way he summarizes who I am based on what he found out about me through files and datas he collected from God knows who,” she whined.
Perry held her hand, they were sitting side by side on the soda. “Maybe that’s why he wants to have another meeting with you, to hear your side of the story … you’ll have the chance to explain yourself to him.”
“Why do I have to explain myself to him? He said he believed in my program and he wanted to donate to make the world a better place … and then he said he will give me the freedom to do it in any way I see fit but at the same time restricting me with all these bullshit confidentiality agreements because he basically doesn’t trust me?”
“I don’t think you should see this as a personal attack, I mean … that’s how he does things within his business … he’s used to be in control of everything … well … given the amount of money and facilities he’s willing to invest for your cause, which I’m sure is nothing for him, but he’s a businessman … a very peculiar one I might add … it’s required, you just have to believe that it’ll be worth it … you know? For the turtles.”
She leaned her head on his shoulder and sighed, “Rich people … I hate rich people, ‘just because they can’ kind of people, they push people around, measure everything with money, always so cocky thinking they’re better than the rest of the world … urgh … I need you to come to Bhorma,” she hugged his arm.
“You know I can’t do that babe.”
“I know but come visit at least? Often? I want our weekly night out … maybe monthly … he told me I can’t leave Bhorma for personal reasons unless it’s a family emergency … which he now knows there won’t be any of those for me,” she chuckled.
“Sure, I’ll visit, I have a few gigs in Bhorma in a few months.”
“He’s probably not gonna stay long there anyways, maybe he’ll just supervise the first couple of days … creeping me out or something to that effect … he probably needs to go back to business here in Lancaster,” she tried to convince herself.
Perry lifted his shoulders, “Probably … look … I gotta go, okay? The crew is waiting for me at The Plaza, my phone is on if you need anything, are you feeling okay?” he was concerned because she’s been feeling under the weather since morning.
“Yeah … I’m okay … I just have too much on my mind right now,” she was still a bit pale.
“Go get something to eat and go to bed early … you’ll feel better in the morning,” he kissed her head.
“I’m just gonna binge on Netflix, I’m not hungry,” she had lost her appetite completely after finding out her fake divorce.
