Chapter 67

Book:The Billionaire Pretend Girlfriend Published:2024-6-2

I was overwhelmed by the idea of having a job, as if the news was too much for me to process. It was difficult for me to imagine myself as anything more than a useless individual, incapable of accomplishing anything. So how could I possibly have a job?
Lost in my thoughts, I gazed at Liam, my mind filled with questions, but I didn’t know where to begin. Sensing my unease, he inquired, “Yes?”
“What do you mean by ‘get ready for work’?” I mustered the courage to ask, hoping he was simply teasing me.
“You work for me, Amelia. You are my secretary,” Liam declared, leaving me dumbfounded, my mouth hanging open.
“I’m your secretary?” I repeated, unsure if I had heard him correctly.
“Yes, Teddy. Now, go get ready,” he replied, flashing me a warm smile before briskly exiting the room, leaving me standing there, utterly clueless about everything.
A deep sense of unease washed over me, as if he had mistaken me for someone else, perhaps his secretary and girlfriend, for some inexplicable reason. However, I knew better than to press the matter further or complain. After all, I was essentially stranded with nowhere else to go, so why not go along with it?
Pondering for a moment, I made my way towards my room to get dressed. Today promised to be a long and arduous day-I could feel it in my bones.
“Are you done?” Liam entered my room 30 minutes later, by which time I had already finished dressing.
I nodded slightly, a faint smile playing on my lips. He approached me slowly, his gaze unwavering, and confusion consumed me. Why was he getting so close?
He reached my frozen form and gently caressed my cheek, tucking a stray strand of hair behind my ear. “Everything will be fine, okay? Soon enough, you will remember everything,” he reassured me, pulling me into a comforting embrace that I had to admit felt surprisingly good. I could feel the rapid thumping of his heart, as if it were about to burst out of his chest.
“Thanks,” I finally spoke, breaking the eerie silence enveloping us as he released me from the embrace, placing a warm kiss on my forehead.
What on earth!
Reacting impulsively, fueled by anger, I instinctively swung my hand and landed a punch on his face without considering the consequences. He recoiled, holding his face, attempting to alleviate the burning sensation I had just caused.
“What was that for?” Liam yelled, his voice pained, while still cradling his face.
“How dare you kiss my forehead? Who do you think you are?” I shouted, my voice echoing with anger, unable to contain my emotions any longer.
“What are you talking about? Can’t I kiss my girlfriend’s forehead?” he scoffed, causing me to stare at him in disbelief.
“Girlfriend…” I scoffed, turning to face him, my expression marked with a deep frown.
“I’m not your girlfriend, okay? I admit we might share the same name and face,” I paused, realizing how absurd my words sounded. He raised an eyebrow, urging me to continue. I sighed.
“I’m not your girlfriend. I haven’t lost my memory, and I know exactly who I am, which definitely isn’t your girlfriend,” I explained firmly, hoping he would grasp the essence of my words.
“So that means you’re an imposter,” he uttered, looking at me with suspicion.
“Well, I’m…” I stammered, realizing the predicament I had unwittingly landed myself in.
“Get out of my house now!” he yelled, causing my eyes to widen in shock.
“No, no, this isn’t what I wanted,” I pleaded desperately, my voice trembling. “I have nowhere else to go, and I’m never going back to Andrew. I have to fix this.”
But before I could do anything, Liam forcefully dragged me out of the room, leading me toward the front door. Panic surged through me as he pushed me outside, slamming the door shut behind me, leaving me standing alone on the doorstep, feeling utterly abandoned.
“Please don’t do this,” I begged, my voice filled with desperation. “I’m begging you. I have nowhere to go.”
“Shut the fuck up, you imposter!” he bellowed, his words cutting through me like a knife. His anger was palpable, and it pierced my heart.
Tears welled up in my eyes as I realized the gravity of my situation. The weight of my vulnerability and the harsh reality of my circumstances crashed down upon me.
As someone called my name, it jolted me back to reality, snapping me out of my tumultuous thoughts. I released a relieved sigh, grateful that the intense scene had existed solely within the confines of my own mind. It was a momentary respite from the confusion and chaos that surrounded me.
“I’ll be waiting for you in the car,” Liam informed me, his voice breaking through the silence. Before I could respond, he swiftly exited the room, leaving me to grapple with a mix of anger and relief.
My mind was still reeling from the unexpected forehead kiss. The image replayed in my thoughts, causing my brow to furrow in consternation. It hadn’t even been a full day since I arrived here, and yet Liam had already taken such a liberty with familiarity.
The realization hit me hard. In his mind, I was his girlfriend, the woman who had lost her memory and couldn’t recall their shared past. How foolish did he believe I was?
If only I weren’t stranded and devoid of options, I would have unleashed my anger upon him, striking his gut with a forceful blow, and promptly contacting the psychiatric hospital to report his behavior. But such actions were merely fantasies born out of frustration.
“Calming down, Amelia,” I whispered to myself, attempting to regain composure. “It was just an insignificant forehead kiss. Murder is never an option.”
I reminded myself to maintain perspective and not let one small gesture lead me to ruin. I couldn’t afford to let my emotions drive me to homelessness. If I were to act out, Liam wouldn’t hesitate to cast me out onto the streets without a second thought.
Taking a deep breath, I gathered my resolve and pushed aside the anger that threatened to consume me. I had to find a way to navigate this precarious situation, to regain control over my life, even in the midst of confusion and false assumptions.
With a renewed determination, I left the room, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.
As I stepped out of the room, the weight of my predicament settled heavily upon my shoulders. The air felt heavy with uncertainty, and I found myself navigating through a labyrinth of emotions and doubts. Yet, amidst the chaos, a glimmer of resilience flickered within me.
Walking towards the waiting car, I couldn’t help but steal occasional glances at Liam. His features were etched with a mix of remorse and uncertainty, as if he too was grappling with the consequences of his impulsive actions. I couldn’t deny that there was something undeniably intriguing about him, something that had drawn me in from the moment I first laid eyes on him.
As we entered the car, a tense silence enveloped us. The weight of unspoken words hung heavily in the air, a stark reminder of the rift that had formed between us. I wondered if we would ever be able to bridge that gap, to find a common ground that could mend the fractured trust.
The engine roared to life, the sound reverberating through the confines of the vehicle. I peered out of the window, watching the city streets pass by in a blur. Thoughts swirled in my mind, questions begging for answers. Who was I really? And how had I ended up entangled in this web of mistaken identity?
Lost in my own thoughts, I failed to notice Liam stealing glances at me. His gaze held a mixture of concern and longing, as if he desperately wanted to reach out and bridge the chasm that separated us. It was a complicated dance, a delicate balance between truth and deception.
Finally, unable to bear the silence any longer, Liam broke it with a hesitant voice “Everyone is waiting for you at the office,” Liam informed me.
“Who exactly do you mean by everyone?” I asked curiously, careful not to leave any room for doubt about my true identity.
“Well, let’s just say your co-workers, who also happen to be your friends. You guys usually eat together,” he explained, hoping it would trigger a memory. However, his words failed to ring any bells because I had no recollection of such relationships.
Liam noticed my confused state and let out a sigh.
“Don’t overthink it, okay?” he reassured me, focusing his attention back on the road.
I silently prayed that my co-workers, who supposedly considered me their friend, wouldn’t put me in a situation where I’d have to reveal my true identity as someone other than the Amelia they believed me to be.
A few minutes later, we arrived at a large building. Liam hurriedly went inside, leaving me outside to gather my thoughts. I took a deep breath.
“This is it, Amelia. Just act normal, and no one will suspect a thing,” I whispered to myself, mustering the courage to step into the building.
