Chapter 31

Book:The Couples' Teen Surrogate Baby Mama Published:2024-6-2

Max POV
Hearing about Alicia’s pregnancy yesterday was one of the best news I’ve heard so far, and I can’t be less excited. We have been married for two years now without her getting pregnant, and to think she’s carrying my child now, makes me feel so elated.
She was discharged the same day, although we came home pretty late in the night that we just went straight to bed, and this morning, I left for the office. Ariel told me she won’t be coming to the office today because she’s not feeling too well, and I gave her a day off, even if I didn’t want to. It’s not about the work, but the fact that I will miss her.
“Shit!” I curse under my breath and recline on the chair as I typed the wrong word on the desktop again. I have been so occupied with the thoughts of Ariel that I couldn’t just do anything right since I came to the office.
Taking a deep breath, I rub my finger on my forehead as many questions parade my mind. What will happen now that Alicia is pregnant? Will she insist Ariel should leave? Those are the questions that keep flooding my mind without an answer, and suddenly, my phone beeps.
‘Yay! Look who have here… Your secretary is here with me’ I slowly clench my fingers around the phone, seeing the message from my annoying brother. What the hell is he up to now?
“That bastard!” I slam my hands on the desk as I spring up to my feet and storm out of the office with my phone held tightly in my hand. I know I’m acting all crazy and can’t even think straight, I shouldn’t be so angry if I don’t want Alex to find out about anything, but fuck it! I can’t help it.
“She’s pregnant for you, anyway,” My subconscious mind reminds me that I’m doing the right thing, as I walk briskly down the hallway, heading to the elevator which takes me to the first floor before I finally leave the company.
The drive to the place is pretty long, but I drive recklessly on the road, just so I can arrive there early before he does something stupid that I might regret later.
“Why are you so angry, Max? Do you love her?” I ask myself as I step hard on the accelerator. That’s the question I have been asking myself. I was thinking that I have been feeling that way because of the baby she’s carrying, but that should’ve stopped after I found out about my wife’s pregnancy, right? This is cheating, I know that, but can I help it when she has captured my heart?
After driving for twenty minutes, I finally arrive at the place, and park roughly in the middle of the road, not minding that it may stop other vehicles from moving later. As I jump out of the car, I spot them standing from afar, with Alex pouting his lips, while she smiles excitedly like they are both lovers. How dare that bastard!
“Ariel!” I call angrily, and she snaps her head to look at me.
“Ma… Max?” She stutters as she blinks her eyes rapidly. Turning my gaze to my annoying brother, I find him smirking at me.
“Wh… what are you doing here?” She inquires once I walk over to them.
“I knew you would come at once. You must care so much about your secretary,” He scoffs, emphasizing on ‘secretary’. I know Alex is smarter than that, he knows that this is not just a boss-employee relationship, but something is wrong somewhere.
“Are you ok? Did he harm you?” I know I shouldn’t have reacted this way, but I can’t help it, since I’m so worried about her.
“You’re overreacting, Mr. Max. I’m fine… Alex is not that of a bad person,” She cackles, and I feel a little embarrassed.
“It’s sad how my brother thinks that I’m a bad person… It’s fine, at least, my friend doesn’t see me as one,” He shrugs as he tucks his hands in his pockets, and I turn to glare hard at him.
“By the way, what are you doing here?” She inquires, and I squint my eyebrows. I don’t want to tell her the truth, but what can I possibly tell her?
“Aren’t you supposed to be in the office, or so?” She further asks, and I sigh briefly.
“I…”
“I called him over,” He cuts me off before I can even start my statement, and I scoff.
“Huh? Why?” She turns to him and utters.
“Nothing. Just felt it would be boring with just us here. He shouldn’t spend all his time working. Now that you’re here, Max… Why don’t we hang out together? You know, it has been pretty long since we last did that,” He winks at me, and I roll my eyes at him.
“I’m not interested, thanks,” I reply to him before I turn to face her.
“Wait for me in the car. I’ll take you home,” I say to her, and she slowly nods her head before she turns to leave.
“That’s not fair, Ariel… We were here together, how can you listen to him like that, huh?” He whines at her, and she smiles at him, which enrages me. Why the hell is she smiling at him?
“We’ll see some other time, I promise,” She replies to him before she walks away, and I scoff. Well, I will make sure they don’t ever see again. I need to keep them away from each other.
“You seem to really care so much about Ariel… Is there something you’re not telling me? Don’t tell me the sweet Max is cheating on his wife. That will be so disheartening,” He gasps sharply, and I roll my eyes at him.
“Stay away from Ariel, Alex,” I point my index finger at him sternly, and he crosses his arms on his chest.
“And what if I don’t want to?” He pouts his lips, and I scoff angrily.
“I warned you,” I say to her before I turn to leave.
“Are you having a secret affair with Ariel?” His question brings me to an abrupt halt, and I gulp down the sudden lump that forms in my throat.
“Do you now love her more than your wife?” Still finding a way to answer his first question, he throws another one to me again, and I bite my bottom lip.
“You should learn more to mind your business next time, it helps a lot,” I reply to him before I finally leave to join Ariel in the car…
