Chapter Seventy-Four – Shiver.
The sheer authority with which Chen said it made the Aunt Jenna know he wasn’t joking around.
Her legs finally gave way and she wobbled to the ground. What had she put herself into?
What menace has she summoned upon herself? In her bid to hide her sins, she had not only sinned more but placed curses on herself. Now kids intimidated her.
Chen retracted the knife. “That said, that was one of your complains, right? Nine hundred and ninety nine thousand more to go. I was told to hear all.”
Aunt Jenna shot her head up. But she didn’t have that many.
Would he kill her if she repeated? Or she should say all her life issues? Was he going to do anything about the house?
She looked downwards. “That house meant a lot to Stark. I temporarily moved him to my apartment since Debby said she wanted it to be where Arya gets trapped in. I never thought…”
“That was my idea.” Chen interrupted. “Blowing it up.”
She glared at him. “That was wrong. That apartment was…”
“It was very flashy, right?” Chen chuckled. “That explosion was really flashy. I stayed far back but could still see it.”
He was nuts. Aunt Jenna could visibly see it. He stayed close to see an explosion he caused. That was a mental illness. She stayed quiet thinking of her next words.
“Well, while you’re thinking about your complaints, I’d drop the next instructions Debby had for you.” Chen went backwards.
It gave Aunt Jenna space to breathe and think better. An air of intimidation was still around her so she couldn’t stand.
“Does she really have more instructions for me?” she asked herself. “She really thinks she’s my boss, doesn’t she?”
How to pay the bitch back! How to pay the bitch back!
That was all that rang in Aunt Jenna’s head. “I did what she wanted me to do earlier, but then I got nothing in return.”
Chen glanced at her, “Eh? Got nothing in return? What were you expecting, old lady?”
“Some level of respect at least. I may not be as intimidating as you, but I’m an insider in Arya’s life.” Aunt Jenna said, even if she knew she wasn’t that important.
Chen turned fully to her with an unreadable expression. “Are you bragging or what because I don’t get it. Being an insider, how that’s gonna help Debby…”
“I can figure what Arya is doing. I know her friends, sister, and details to her home. Does Debby think she can set this plan on without all that!” she raised her voice.
He was quiet for while before cocking his head.
That reaction scared aunt Jenna. She hated when Debby did that as she sprouted the craziest of things afterwards. What did the young boy want to say now?
“You are quite interesting, old lady. That is exactly what Debby needs now. How’d you know?” He smiled.
Aunt Jenna exhaled. Debby needed to know information on Arya’s schedule. Why was she suddenly playing smart? Wasn’t she impulsive and violent. “Am I allowed to know why?”
“Not really. Just provide it. Arya’s schedule and that of her acquaintances. Don’t bring anything unnecessary.” Chen instructed.
Jenna looked downwards, then nodded. “I can’t even know why yet I have to bring something so valuable. Will it kill her to let me in on the plan?”
She didn’t care if he would react badly to her words but she wanted to express herself with less regrets.
He huffed then replied. “Actually, even I don’t know what she’s doing too but I feel she doesn’t want to involve the Wades in her deal with Arya.”
Aunt Jenna looked at the young boy, he was looking down at his knife, lost in thoughts, like he was still wondering why Debby was playing safe. “I’d just follow what she says still.”
“Why? Who are you to her? Second in command? Is she really from a mafia group or was she trying to keep me in check?”
Chen’s expression changed. “She told you about a mafia group? That’s reckless. People who know about us dies after our mission with them is over.”
A cold engulfed Aunt Jenna. They die? So Debby telling her was because she wanted to end her later on?
She rose to her feel swiftly. “I will never say anything. Debby knows that. I had also committed murder so my hands are as dirty as a mafias’…”
“Don’t compare a mafia to your sick way of life!” Chen pointed the knife at her again. She fell back.
“Whatever reason you killed was to hide a secret or gain something. Mafias are different.” Chen glared at her.
Different? Aunt Jenna smirked, looking down. “Don’t tell me that you guys perform justice in your own way?”
That was very cliché. But it’d correlate with how Debby was asked by the Doctor’s wife to punish her husband’s side chick and Debby was willing because the husband hurt his wife.
“No, no, at least that’s not why I’m in the mafia.” Chen stooped low to her size. “I kill because… it’s fun.”
Aunt Jenna raised her head to meet his eyes. Those brown orbs were filled with bloodlust and for a second, she felt like it was directed at her.
She looked away. “You are a dangerous man. Killing for fun is like killing for something you want. Fun is what you want.”
Chen shrugged. “Well, yeah. But it’s more honorable to want fun, joy, pleasure of life than want gold or fame. Many kill for the latter. Like you did.”
Last she remembered, Jenna had killed her sister because she took what was hers. Stark never loved her and was miserable during the years they were married.
She redeemed the man she loved from a woman he didn’t love. It was even unfair to call it murder. She only liberated.
However, Aunt Jenna could read in between the lines. Chen’s whole presence was just to give her instructions and make her know her place. She was more aware of the last part now.
“Fine, I will send in information that Debby will need. I’d like one thing though, please.” She begged.
Chen twirled his knife. “What is it? A complaint. I’m still keeping notes but maybe we’ll continue next time.”
“Not a complaint. Just a plea. Don’t hurt my family members. Stark and Lucy. And if possible, don’t do something that’d involve them. I’m pleading. I love them.” She looked up.
Chen’s eyes narrowed on her. “I love Debby too.”
Jenna’s jaw dropped. Why was he telling her that? What was even his relationship with her?
“So you shouldn’t do anything that’d hurt her too.” Chen continued. “Or I’ll kill you, I promise.”
She clenched her lips and rose from the ground. Since she had gotten herself into it, she should endure till she can get herself out. “Fine, we have an agreement then.”
