Chapter Seventy-One – Till death.
Connor regretted not telling Arya, long ago, who exactly her enemy was. “She’s not here to help, Arya. She’s the menace.”
The menace? Arya couldn’t gully grasp what Connor meant.
But with Debby’s laughter, she knew it wasn’t a good sign. “Then, what are you doing here if it’s not to help us. How did you even get in…”
And then her dumb brain cells transfigured. She realized.
“Debby Chan! Did you do all this?!” She pointed at her. Wasn’t it the doing of her Aunt Jenna?
Debby stopped laughing and cocked her head. “Did you just realize, idiot! I can’t believe you are the one Damien married!”
It was a blow to Arya’s already weak heart. The sixteen year old in front of her was the cause of her house’s explosion!
“Debby, if you liked Damien that much, why are you attacking his business projects. Not very sweet of you, is it?” Connor glared at her.
Arya swerved her head from him to Debby. Was she involved in that too? The two explosions? How’d she get that wild!
Why go that far for? Because she liked Damien? Was that even a good enough reason to commit all those crimes?
What if she had hurt real people? Damien didn’t like her, and even now, Damien was in love with someone else.
“Debby…” Arya muttered, not bring able to believe what’s happening. How was the girl able to do all these in the first place?
Debby clenched her fists because Connor’s words annoyed her. “I am doing all these do he’d open his eyes and realize he’s wrong!”
“No dear, you’re just crazy, obsessed and looking for trouble!” Connor barked. “You underestimate Damien if you think you can get away with it.”
Debby flushed with anger, She wanted to smash him on the wall many times till he stopped moving. Despite him being from an elite family, was he really siding a gold digger?
“I don’t expect to get away with anything as long as this bitch dies!” she yelled, stomping her. “And you will too, you know.”
Connor wanted to snap back but Arya held him back. She came in front of him, studying Debby. “So the reason you are being a fool is because I married Damien?”
“Who are you calling a fool?” Debby pulled a pin from her hair. From the looks, Arya knew that it was a weapon.
She held her head high, not wanting to look a bit intimidated in front of the bitch. “You aren’t only a fool but a coward!”
Debby dropped her hand, glaring at Arya. She was being called a coward? That was new, and genuinely the first time someone dared used the word on her.
She had never shied away from anything, no challenge ever. Call it being overconfident but she always stuck her head.
The one thing she ever hesitated during was confessing her love to Damien. Well, at that time, she assumed she wasn’t within the age of consent to date more or less marry him.
And she wasn’t physical strong enough to defy anyone who thought otherwise. That might have been her only mistake.
And maybe the only reason why she deserved to be called a coward. But not by Arya.
“You should be careful with your words, Arya. This so called Coward would soon close in on you and end you. As well you your little friend there.” She seethed.
“Did you send that boy to the Wade’s mansion? And kidnapped my sister? Why didn’t you come face-to-face with me all this time?” Arya continued, ignoring her.
Connor but his lower lips. He didn’t really like where Arya was going. If she was suggesting a face-to-face confrontation with Debby, then it was dangerous.
Debby was a genius in many things including martial arts.
A grin appeared on Debby’s face and Connor feared the worst. Would she challenge Arya to a one on one fight?
What would be the reward? The loser forgets Damien? Arya might take it up thinking she was just a little girl.
But, Debby, laughed heartily and began taking steps back. “Why am I even exchanging words with a someone like you?”
Arya frowned. “Watch your mouth, Debby….”
“You’re lucky that the explosion didn’t get you.” Debby smiled. “And honestly, if I wanted to end you, I will end of it right now. But you seem to think you’re something.”
She paused and ran her hands through her hair. “I’d let you know that you are nothing. Nothing but a gold-digger. Nothing but an idiot who Damien married just to control.”
Just to control? Arya found herself affected by those lines. Ken had said something similar. Two people who knew Damien very well have insinuated he controlled others.
“Hold your horses, Debby! Damien married her because he loved her and only because he loved her! You’d never know how that feels!” Connor barked at her.
Debby clenched her fists and threw a block at Connor. It didn’t go far. They glared at each other.
Arya smiled. Connor must know his cousin more than Ken and Debby did and if he thought his cousin wasn’t that kind of person then he was more accurate.
More accurate than an egoistic best friend and an obsessed girl. “I don’t even care what you think of me, Debby.”
Arya thought for a while. She might have more traps here so it’d be best if she let them go for now. She added. “But if you are inviting me to a game of smarts and wits. I’m in.”
Connor snapped his head at Arya. She’s in what? How was she supposed to flex smarts and wits with a crazy girl?
“That’s fine by me. But know, that the reward is one of us dying. Because it’s either your life, or mine.” Debby cocked her head, with a smirk.
Fight to the death? Arya couldn’t believe the brat. There was no way she was agreeing to that. “You have a lot to live for and you’d waste it because Damien didn’t love you…”
“I don’t want to hear that from you!” she shut her up. “And yes, I’m willing to go that far. You don’t even love him so what are you saying. Love someone else. Leave him alone!”
Arya could easily say, “okay.” and end the madness, because she didn’t love Damien and she’d leave him alone some day. But that day wasn’t near.
They had a contract. She was sold to that family, so even if she wanted to leave, she couldn’t just do that.
And Damien was in love with her, he wouldn’t just let her leave. Debby would lose both ways and she wasn’t about to lose with her. “Won’t you listen to voice of reason?”
“You are no voice of reason, Arya. Damien will be here soon and, I’d leave. But know, our battle is on. Till the death. As a bonus, I’d send your Aunt Jenna and father along with you.”
Arya fumed. “Did you kidnap them? Where are they?”
“Don’t worry, I just faked your aunt’s voice to get you here and this house… hmm, all my strategies. It seems I’m already ahead of you in our battle?”
The Aunt Jenna’s voice that she heard was faked? Arya hardly believed Debby. Maybe she was covering up.
She knew she could fake Anna’s voice but aunt Jenna talked for long with her. All those yelling couldn’t be faked.
“You are crazy, Debby. Even if wouldn’t be this crazy for someone I love.” Arya said in a low tone.
Debby narrowed her eyes at her. “Then your love is weak.”
