Chapter Thirty – Dinnertime.
It was dinner time in the Wade’s mansion. Arya was helping the servants bring the soup bowls to the table, when a ball made her trip.
Thankfully, the soup bowl was covered and didn’t spill. She snapped her head at Debby’s direction, knowing fully well the ball came from her.
Debby smirked, “Oh, a mistake.” She was about walking away, through the other door when it suddenly opened and slammed on her face.
She fell back with it’s a scream, holding her nose.
Junior popped out of the door. “Oh, a mistake.”
Arya grinned, getting up from the ground, “Oh, you both should be careful next time to avoid such mistakes.”
Debby frowned deeply at Junior, then at Arya. She left the ground, still holding unto her nose. “It’s on!” she stormed off.
“Won’t you stay for some of the lovely soup by lovely sister-in-law brought?” Junior teased further. Debby ignored him.
Junior and Arya shared a laugh as he helped her dress the table. Mrs. Wade and Damien joined them later on.
There were two empty chairs so Mrs. Wade whispered to Junior to call Selena. Arya noticed and opted to go. “Let me call her.”
Mrs. Wade smiled at her and nodded. With the speed of lightening, Arya ran off before Damien would disagree. She wasn’t sure why he would disagree though.
Arya first went to the restroom to pee, which was the actual reason she opted to go call Selena, before she went towards the little princess’s room.
Mutters and grumblings were coming from the room, she was sure Selena was with someone. She was about knocking when she picked on the familiar voice and sighed.
It was Debby’s. “Look, either you are with me or against me. Your brother already said he’s returning me tomorrow.”
There was a light chuckle from Selena. “Returning you? You sound like you were rejected? Last I remember, you were rude to my mom and sister-in-law.”
Hearing Selena refer to her as ‘sister-in-law’ both pleased and annoyed Arya. Couldn’t she refer to her by name?
“You are not with me then. I’m disappointed but you’ve picked your sides. Debby gets what Debby wants. You know me, don’t you?” Debby boasted.
Selena chuckled, then sighed. “Yes, but if what Debby wants is my already married brother, then she might not be getting it this time.”
There was silence within Arya as she heard the last lines.
Debby wanted Damien? The teenager had been in love with Damien? No wonder she bothered her a lot.
Arya moved away from the door when she felt she overheard too much. It was quite funny to her that the sixteen year old desired a man in his mid twenties.
She walked back to the dining room, looking amused.
“Where’s Selena?” Junior was the first to ask. He was very hungry and the family tradition was eating starts after everyone was on the table.
Arya froze, looking behind her, she turned back to meet their confused faces. “She is with Debby. They’d be out soon.”
“Debby isn’t eating with us.” Junior raised a brow.
Arya nodded. “Oh, right. I’d go call Selena then.” She spun around and ran off.
Mrs. Wade and Junior gave themselves questioning glances while Damien smiled.
Arya knocked on Selena’s door, not minding the conversation they were in. “It’s Arya. Even if you don’t want to open up, do know that it’s dinner time. I was asked to let you know.”
There was no response. Arya placed her ears to the door but then it opened. She plastered a smile on her face but it faded when she saw it was Debby who opened it.
“Selena is in there, right? Well, tell her that…”
“It’s dinner time, we heard loud and clear.” Debby rolled her eyes. “Now, get out!”
Arya clenched her jaw. She was not doing this again.
“Debby!” it was Selena. “Now, that’s rude. Don’t do that in front of me.” She was getting into the bathroom, a towel on her head. “And Arya dear, I’d meet you guys shortly.”
Arya nodded stiffly, then spun around to leave.
“Whore in wife’s clothing. Did you even love Damien before jumping and saying ‘yes’ to his engagement?” Debby huffed.
Arya froze. There was no engagement or love but Arya was still sure it didn’t make her a whore. Damien made it clear that evening that the marriage was a business contract.
“And since when do I owe you an explanation for anything I do? I heard you are being sent away tomorrow. I can’t wait.” She replied, not sparing her a glance.
Debby’s nails dug into the door she was holding, in her anger. “Oh you wait, I have still tomorrow to get rid of you!” she slammed the door very loudly.
It jolted Arya and even prevented her from understanding the last words of the girl. She muttered, “Psychopath.” and made her way towards the dining room.
Halfway there, she saw Damien leaving the room. “Is something wrong? What was that noise?”
Arya folded her arms. “It’s Debby! I don’t even know what’s with her today…” she trailed off. She knew what was with her.
She hated seeing the man she loved with another lady, just as Arya knew she hated seeing Seth with his girlfriend, Edna.
It also came to her realization that she deemed Edna a whore too because of her closeness with Seth.
Even if in fact, Edna was a known prostitute.
“I don’t know why she can’t vent her anger any other way than slamming doors. Maybe it’s teenage exuberance.” Arya finalized.
Damien looked at Selena’s door then at Arya, he smirked, preparing to taunt her. “You are a teenager too, you know.”
Arya’s shoulders dropped but then she smiled.
As they cornered to dining room again, Arya noticed a fine blonde man sitting besides her seat, occupying one of the two empty chairs.
“That’s my driver, Kane. I’d be leaving for a vigil this night so he’d drive me. You can always ask him to drive you when you want to. If you’re nice, he will.” Damien said.
Arya nodded, still staring at the man. Her husband sure had a lot of eye candy friends. She looked away from him and unto the plate of food on the table inviting her
Damien first sat down. Arya frowned, seeing him sit at her chair which was close to the fine blonde man, she sat on his, closer to Mrs. Wade.
Was he blocking her from having small chats with the man? It’s not like she was attracted but making acquaintance wouldn’t be so bad.
“Selena is having a bath now. She’d meet us later.” Arya announced to the rest on the table.
Mrs. Wade smiled. “Fine, let’s eat then.”
Arya tried to steal a glance of the fine driver but Damien was covering every inch of him from her view. What was wrong with his husband of hers!
